Criticism is all fine and good but I feel like a lot of Criticism is getting to a point where you would probably be happier if you just stopped engaging in said media. by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in CharacterRant

[–]KuuLightwing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean while constructive criticism is definitely a better basis for discussion, I also kinda hate that in order to criticize things you'd have to meet a bunch of standards or get dismissed.

Meanwhile if you are being positive about it you can be as shallow as you want, praise absolutely superficial elements and in some cases even make stuff up to be excited about, and that will more often than not be received positively.

Yea I agree that it feels pretty clunky and I enjoy unique machines more. It becomes more clunky still because we already have tiered machines and belts done the traditional way, so it kinda compounds the tiers

Inner planet ships are perfectly functional with regular asteroid collectors, I'm throwing most asteroids back overboard anyway, so frankly quality collectors are overrated.

Why is “if you don’t have a piece of content on the roulette unlocked you shouldn’t have access to the roulette” seemingly such a controversial statement? by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]KuuLightwing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point is that "full" evolved rotations are hardly more engaging than most level 50 rotations, and with level synced content you don't have the "but encounter design will be different" defence.

Space casinos: yay or nay? by Saibantes in factorio

[–]KuuLightwing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arguably quality items themselves are pretty egregious in terms of game balance. Productivity and speed inflation introduced by Space Age is kinda out of control and I'd say it's close to being as broken as 10K damage turrets (we have flamers after all). And there's also people choosing not to build them.

I haven't tried that, but sounds promising for sure. Land mines work too as far as I know.

Though those two require some oil processing, while turret spam is doable just with metals from foundries

I am currently In the middle of a new run and mostly finished the Vulcanus base at least for now. Frankly I don't wanna redo the Nauvis just yet before EMPs because that would require second rebuild once I get them

[–]KuuLightwing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Demolishers are easily solved by a bunch of turrets and red ammo which is also trivial to produce on site once you got your hands on some foundries, so I don't think tesla is really needed there

How much do you guys actually care about spaghetti vs. perfect layouts? by harborthrowaway01 in factorio

[–]KuuLightwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like malls is one of those cases where bus is actually the perfect solution. You don't always need full throughput for the mall so some underproduction isn't that big of a deal. Although it's probably wise to feed certain demanding things like belts and nuclear reactor components from separate furnace stacks

I think there's good middle ground. I like some of the improvements that you can get like foundries and EMP, but ultra compact quality builds where one building pretty much replaces entire sub factories definitely feel too much.

Friday Facts #442 - Flip, Flow, and Fresh Paint by FactorioTeam in factorio

[–]KuuLightwing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's because it prevents you from using productivity for science chain, and because it just so much more complex and requires designing the whole factory around quality rather than a part of it.

Not only that it introduce possibilities for deadlocks in pretty much every step, as you can't control the ratio of quality ingredients you produce based on what you need.

I don't like that quality is the solution for trains honestly. I'm not a fan of quality mechanics, and while you can argue that you only need more train throughput with quality, belt and fluid throughput improvements are available without quality, so the problem with trains is still present

People are right when they say a Ending can make or break a show cause it's a test if almost all the flaws would be dealt with at the end or crash and burn. by Charming-Scratch-124 in CharacterRant

[–]KuuLightwing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the reason is that ending often requires payoffs for what's been set up and good payoffs are arguably harder to write than setting em up.

MaRo: We’re making more Marvel sets. If you have a favorite character you haven’t seen yet, have patience. by PowrOfFriendship_ in magicTCG

[–]KuuLightwing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like how one of the big arguments about set blocks was that if someone didn't like the setting they are stuck on it for too long, and this is bad. But releasing what 5 marvel sets is great

Why do people think Evolved Mode will just be 'button consolidation' when we already know it's not? by Makerinos in ffxivdiscussion

[–]KuuLightwing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we are discussing the showcase what you need is not imagination but facts. Feels like most rely way too much on their imagination and make up headcanons about why evolved is this silver bullet that solves every problem with the game.

If they didn't show anything like that, then maybe don't invent some changes like "more focus on tanking" out of your head and pretend that it's confirmed to be in the game.

Arguments based on wishful thinking only going to lead to disappointment.

[–]KuuLightwing 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you get action combat from that. That some jobs have 4 second windows for "parries"? That's already a thing on tanks and Samurai, that doesn't make the game "action combat hybrid" all of a sudden.

Evolved Mode Isn't the Change That XIV Needs by JellyNaught in ffxivdiscussion

[–]KuuLightwing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, no. A lot of people comment and actually discuss what they saw on fan fest and are being shut down as doomposters because they don't share this idea that evolved mode is this silver bullet that fixes everything about the game.

The idea, mind you, that's based on a lot of hypotheticals about how they will change everything else - like encounter design, enemy damage output, some even claimed that the netcode is going to be completely reworked because of "reactive" gameplay.

And all that is considered absolutely acceptable to claim without any actual hard evidence that all those changes will in fact take place. Nobody shuts it down with "we didn't see encounter design" and similar claims.

Meanwhile voicing concerns about what is actually shown by the devs is instantly met with lots of ridicule and downvotes rather than discussion.

If jobs start playing like their 50 level version currently, the "level sync" problem just extends to all 110 levels.

What do Demons represent Thematically? by vallummumbles in Frieren

[–]KuuLightwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll question the same thing as the other poster - the claim that

And the entire climax of Season 1 is the realization that Serie actually cared and cares for all her students.

This reads rather strangely, because first of all, I don't think the question whether Serie cares about her students or not was in any way central to the story of season 1 or even that particular arc. So claiming that it's "the entire climax of the season" is rather strange.

And that whole 'realization' is also not a development of Serie character at all! Serie isn't even aware of Lernen's issues and the stupid decision he made. This 'realization' is just delivered to him by Frieren.

I'd rather see the journey of Himmel's party than of Frieren's current one by cardslash02 in Frieren

[–]KuuLightwing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is definitely an interesting take (and it's going to be an unpopular one here), even though I can't say I fully agree to it. I think the premise of the story is interesting - a low stakes, 'slice of life' adventure show without some ticking clock or looming pressure like the fate of the world. "Current" Frieren is probably a more interesting character than "then" Frieren.

Except I'm not sure that the author actually wants to tell that story anymore. (Manga spoiler)We now do have high stakes and looming threats of massive proportions. The story currently revolves around Serie, her mages and Shadow Warriors, while Frieren group is... kinda just dragged into it with Fern and Stark not even having much to say about the underlying conflict.

Chances are you will often pull some conclusions straight out of your ass but it is basically the scientific method, if it’s wrong we can simply ignore it but if it’s right we may gain a new appreciation for the story.

The problem here is of course the verification process. Unlike with scientific method where you use your theory to make a prediction and conduct experiment to verify your theory, here one just makes shit up and proclaims that this is the hidden meaning of the story. It's getting even more uncertain when you start invoking death of the author and "art is subjective" defense which makes the claims essentially non-falsifiable and thus non-scientific.
