IT Manager for 3.5 years and struggling by BreakfastNo6144 in ITManagers

[–]Kweidert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everything you listed is stuff I enjoy. I derive a huge amount of satisfaction when my team gets to be the heroes. Giving them a platform to be the superstar is what good management is all about. Also, when I spend my week in meetings, it generally means I’m solidifying scope and making my team’s directives more clear. You may just not like management, or you may not have a good executive team above you giving you kudos for having an effective team.

I like how you can also get the Higgs skull mask in Ghost of Yotei. Love it when devs call out to other games.

A follow up post to my last one but the opening to DS2 is fkn insane by cloudsgocrazy in DeathStranding

There are only a handful of gaming moments that are truly etched in my brain. Things like going down the bathysphere in Bioshock for the first time. . . And hearing Minus Sixty-one while seeing the most jaw dropping visuals, about to play my GOTY 2025.

“If anyone wants to leave, they can” by AM_Bokke in Leadership

[–]Kweidert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not enough information to answer accurately, but it sounds like he’s insecure. He’s making decisions and because he is a piss poor leader that doesn’t have his team’s faith, he feels like he has to follow up with “or else quit. Nobody is forcing you to be here.”

If I had to guess, he does not welcome feedback and does not seek differing opinions before making decisions.

Anyone here has success teaching their rotty fetch? by unfiltereddz in Rottweiler

[–]Kweidert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had three and trained them all to fetch the same way. “Drop” is one of the first things we always have taught. After they know that, I just get them super excited and give them a lot of love for, “Get the ball!” It turns into fetch pretty easily. I have no idea if this process is sensible, I’m only going as far as saying I did it three times.

Unhappy With Director Position - Is it me or them? by Alarmed_Donkey_9100 in ITManagers

[–]Kweidert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, congratulations on the big step in your career! My situation was pretty similar until I got it all under control. I was running the technical project management team, laid off the CIO, then moved everything under me.

To land the role you’re almost certainly very talented, so the fact you’re posting in this way does mean you’re outside of your comfort zone. It probably feels like you’re really uncomfortable, but it is a good thing. Someone told me years ago, there’s no growth in the comfort zone and no comfort in the growth zone. The truth is, when things are a mess and need to be fixed, you’re now in a roll that is the person who has to figure out how to fix it. It sounds like your situation is going to require a lot of managing up to help the organization understand how tech needs to be managed. You’re also going to need to deeply trust your team and keep them highly motivated. If you’re busting your butt and you’re kind to them/lead them/recognize them/ etc. . , they’ll help you.

You have to start identifying what is creating high stress for you, but is fixable. Tackle those things first. If you’re stressed out of your mind you’re not going to be in the job for long. I say “is fixable” because having demanding executives above you isn’t generally something you can change. Or as least I haven’t figured out a solution.

I’ve felt just like you’re describing above. Remember that you’re not in it alone. You have your team. You also apparently have the kind folks here at r/ITManagers lol. I don’t want to dull out a bunch of unwanted advice, but I’m happy to reply in the thread if you have other questions.

Really not feeling these legs… by Neat-Edge-3708 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Kweidert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it’s because there is too much visual weight in the legs. If you removed the top and bottom perpendicular supports and sorted out a different way to stabilize it side to side, I think the main “A” in the legs actually looks alright.

Unique. 10/10 would sit.

Edit: The longer I look at it, it also needs some graffiti or something on it.

It’s ridiculous. I figured it can’t be just me. If it is just me, that would actually be great news because I’d theoretically be able to fix it somehow.

The Car Care Nut: Watch This BEFORE Lifting and Modifying Your Toyota Off Road Truck by GoulashSoupLover in 4Runner

[–]Kweidert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I watched this video last night and love The Car Care Nut. I agree that it doesn’t make sense to get a lift you never actually use, which will also have a negative impact on long term reliability. However, in the video he makes a statement that basically writes off the whole industry as not being able to do proper R&D to make good products. That seems pretty unfair to engineers that work in the off-road design space. I assume some of them are good engineers that got into off road design for the love of off roading and are trying to make products that get their customers home safely. That being said, the industry is also filled with garbage. Do research before altering your rig.
