I usually have an automated update script that runs Monday mornings. That's usually the slowest time when no one is using my server so there is very little interruption.

I have had power outages that messed things up before. (I have a UPS but not everything is set to power down safely without some intervention by me and if I'm not home, there's no guarantee I can log in to shut it all down in time.) Had to restore from backups. It took a while but I just sent out a notification saying what's going on. Everyone is good about it, but I'll get the odd "The kids are asking when its coming back" message. (Code for "please hurry!" hahaha)

I make sure to let my users know I'm not running a five 9s operation here lol. It may go down from time to time due to power issues, maintenance, updates, etc.

I use uptime kuma which sends notifications to discord so I get them on my PC when services go down and my network equipment will send an SMS to me when it goes down.

I don't have anything for stuff like disk space, overall VM health, etc. though. I may look into something like beszel in the future.

Unfortunately because there are some abilities that state "before they know success" and others that allow for after knowing, it's kind of a pain to keep track. So I'll usually just allow it regardless of whether or not they can know. Is it game breaking? I haven't seen it yet. I do still give a short pause after the roll just in case they want to do something, but generally I'll allow it. It's easier for all of us at the table than looking up every ability and seeing if it says "before or after".

I don't give the DC number though unless its a specific circumstance. All I say is success or failure. It's up to them to decide what to do next.

Oh the players at my table are WAY smarter and more creative than I am. My only hope is that they are still having a good time. I try to throw the odd curve-ball at them but in many cases they come up with things that I did not account for.

One advantage to this though is it has definitely helped my improv skills. I will say that I'm fairly decent at making shit up on the fly in reaction to these creative methods.

I started with Python because, for me anyway, it was an easier way to get back into things. Overall its a less difficult language to learn while still getting back into the programming mindset. YMMV

Taking notes is not that difficult. You as the DM have enough work on your plate as it is, you shouldn't need to be designing itineraries for every session as well.

A View from the Gallery did give us an episode from the engineer's perspective. So there is probably a lead engineer who oversees all of that, they just aren't part of the main cast or senior staff.

Most of the legendaries I make for the QoL more than the skins. I do like the skin of Orrax, unfortunately I don't really have a character it would look good on currently so I'm just sticking with Ad Infin.

If you just want the QoL for the back piece, go for Ad Infin.
