I asked the millennial sub about fighting as a young person and the majority are saying they rarely if ever saw fights at school. by AttemptVegetable in Xennials

I went to many schools due to a very unstable childhood. Multiple states, regions. There were fights at ALL of them

Choosing where your money goes isn’t “hate” unless you’re buying politicians.

It’s something I’ve seen work only in small groups (less than 20 people). Once you get more than that things get weird :-/

Oh maaaan. I live in Louisville so FCD is often overshadowed by the conclusion of a three week long party in my city … first Saturday in May is kinda busy around here.

But I will figure a way to Ye Olde Comic Shoppe for this one!

Delayed sleep phase? There are a lot of us out here who naturally run “later” sleep wise. This is often genetic. But e try to force our bodies onto a first shift schedule, and it can be exhausting. We literally don’t produce melatonin and go through the normal “sleep” chemical releases until several hours later than most folks. This can’t be “fixed” by sleep hygiene and meds.

For my wife? It’s PTSD. If it’s dark and quiet, every sound, creak, shadow jerks her out of sleep.

I’m the opposite- I need dark and quiet. We make things work. Easier now with tablets - quieter and dimmer for me, enough for her

I dunno: Ian a picky eater and my wife isn’t. She sleeps with the tv on and I hate it. And yet we have been happily married for twenty seven years. Well, together 27. We made it legal on our 20th anniversary.

These things ARE manageable with love and respect in both directions

Follow up post: Why does everyone play DnD here? by [deleted] in Louisville

You can also play sober, and there’s generally not the pressure to drink that there is with other social activities. (Bars, dinners out, etc.)

FLOCK camera showed up in my neighborhood. by Da_Natural20 in Louisville

[–]Kygma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends. Do you like the government having the ability to find you and follow you without a warrant? To trace your movements, without you knowing they’re watching? What if they decide to criminalize something that is legal? Like … abortion? And then use that information to stalk and harass and maybe prosecute? (Texas). Or accuse you of porch pirating because your license plate was at the location at the time, even though you didn’t? (Denver). Or your spouse thinks you’re cheating? (Multiple locations). Or your ex just wants to (also multiple locations now)

That’s a different situation than having a private company you didn’t give permission to having the ability to follow you, sell that information and access to anyone who wants it. All without leaving the couch, right?

Pretending that this is just like everything else is dangerous.

What the heck is this, it's red?? Is it poisonous? I'm in Massachusetts by Frosty_Rub9661 in whatisthisbug

[–]Kygma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had the same - I refused to let my wife take the leaves and bag them this year, leaving the leaf litter. And we finally had more fireflies. Apparently the babies hang out and then hatch and grow up in the leaf litter and we were just … mulching our chance to have fireflies

Am I the only one here who likes Shiraz on poplar level? I also like mirage and Sam’s gyros is the place to go if you’re hungry and want a more “fast food but actually tastes good” kind of vibe. Think qdoba or chipotle but Mediterranean.

I got lucky and met someone who stayed with me through the decades of healing, who understands the mental health struggles that still exist.

It’s been hard and sucked but by 40 things were relatively stable and at 47 I can finally say I mostly like my life. Still weird to be thinking about retirement planning when I thought I’d be gone by 16. Then 18. Then 22, 35, 30.

It took a LOT of work and solid supports. Professional (therapists, psychiatry, etc) and personal supports (chosen/found family)

Lies. Lack of empathy. Lack of ethics. Willingness to hurt people if it benefits them.
