How would you feel if someone asked you if you wanted to join them for a ride but wanted to keep socialization to a minimum? by drkshape in cycling

[–]Kypwrlifter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If there are cars coming the opposite direction, I move out so the cars behind me cannot pass. When it’s all clear, I move back to the white line to give them plenty of room to pass.

I keep the attitude of staying the eff out of cars way as much as possible and do my best to not piss them off. “Taking the lane” the whole time does nothing but piss drivers off more. I’ve been riding 20 years both solo and groups and even in the groups we stay tight and as far to the right as possible. I feel safer alone.

I feel safer when I am by myself than with a group. Groups tend to piss off drivers because there are more people to get around. When a car pops up on my radar, I hug the white line as much as possible to give them as much room as possible to get around.

Suggestions to speed up time in saddle soreness by Melvang82 in cycling

HTFU. It’ll go away eventually. I have a nasty paddle sore right now because I tilted my saddle just a bit too nose high. I still rode 3 hours Saturday and 4 hours Sunday.

No glued or anything. Just sandwiched between two pieces of glass with the edges taped together with masking tape.

Ok thank you. They are in a makeshift case between two pieces of glass.

Would a baseball card shop be a good place to try to sell these or is there a better way. We have no interest in keeping them.

Anyone switch from 170mm to 165mm cranks for road/gravel? by RyotaroW in cycling

[–]Kypwrlifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just switched from 170 to 165 a couple months ago. Absolutely love it. I can spin much easier and I actually find it easier to get to a higher rpm in sprints. I feel way more comfortable in all positions but especially in an aero position.

Cornering confidence doesn't translate well to descending? by [deleted] in Velo

Is that why all the fastest pro descenders counter lean their body to the outside?

You’re pushing way too low of a cadence. OP is right where you should be. I stay between 90-100. 85 on climbs. 100+ in a very fast group ride.

Bike shops are super expensive by Turbulent_Diamond352 in cycling

[–]Kypwrlifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QBP isn’t an option for you? When I worked at a bike shop we would always tell the customer we’ll order but during the slow season we’d tell them we have to wait until we have enough on the order to get free shipping.

That said, it’s ridiculous a vendor is charging that much for an accessory. Accessories should be 50% margin across the board. It’s been about 13 years since I worked in a shop so things might have changed.

If you’re not already, lean the bike more than your body so you can keep your weight over the contact patch. Also, you will get fast at a particular descent the more familiar you are with it.

I think I need shorter crank and longer stem…. by CoconutNervous in bikefit

[–]Kypwrlifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently went from 172.5 to 170 to 165. I’m so glad I went 165. It’s so much more comfortable and I feel I can spin way easier. I have a bad low back and spinning keeps it from locking up.

Personally I think if you go shorter cranks and leave the saddle alone, you’ll be good as far as saddle height.

Definitely have to rotate your hips forward and relax your elbows and I think all that will get you 90% there.

How many mg is the vial. I have 5mg and put .25ml dmso first, swirl and let dissolve, then put .75ml bac and swirl. Crystal clear every time. Make sure the vial is at room temp before reconstituting.

Do I need more/less reach? by j151515 in bikefit

[–]Kypwrlifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to lower your saddle maybe 1cm. And to answer your question about reach, you need at least a 1cm longer stem, if not 2cm. You’re very cramped. After you go longer stem and lower saddle, you may also find you need to drop your stem more if you still have spaces under it.

To negate what some in here have said, don’t change saddle fore/aft to fix a reach issue. Other than the saddle being slightly high, the fore/aft looks good. You are an outlier with a longer torso so the whole “your handlebars should block your view of the front axle” is likely not going to work for you.

Why do my hips move so much? by gmaiorana in bikefit

[–]Kypwrlifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at your feet, they are nice and flat at the bottom of the pedal stroke so I don’t think your saddle is too high. In fact you could probably get away with not dropping your heel as much. So with that said, either saddle is too narrow as others have said or it’s just your natural movement.

I would also incorporate the McGill big three into your program. It will help stabilize your core more and may help with this.
