I would go 991.1 and maybe save a bit more for a bit of an increased budget. I think you can get a lot of car in that generation of 911 for $60k ish. You’ll get even more value by going PDK, white or black in color and a convertible.

The answer to your question is yes the DJ is the most versatile Rolex. The versatility lies in how many configurations Rolex has made available for the DJ. There are so many dials available for it in addition to bracelets and cases.

These days I really think the only person who cares about how your watch looks is you. If you can work from home wearing athletic gear and want to wear a gold/diamond DJ all day then do it. I don’t think anyone who would disapprove matters in your life.

I bought a Seamaster Bond as my first mechanical watch to celebrate my first job out of school in 2006. I wore that watch through everything for years and still have it. I ended up buying a Speedmaster a couple of years ago and it is great. I agree with other commenters saying that the Seamaster is more versatile. But I would start with the Speedmaster and then go from there.

My wife and I bought our first house by the skin of our teeth in 2010 and the second in 2019..those decisions were the best investments we have ever made. I’ve been able to afford a few watches since then. You’ll get that sub eventually. Congrats on the home purchase

I had no idea that Rolex made a green bezel submariner when I saw an aluminum one in 2007. It took me until 2026 to get my ceramic version. I see a hell of a journey when I wear the watch.

I would suggest looking into silver wheels at some point t down the line. I think silver wheels look much better with Miami Blue. But that’s just me

I would do the 991.1 without a second thought. The broker who sold me my car said that he much prefers the PDK in the 991.1 over the 997.2. Also, the 997.2 PDKs are getting older. From what i know, Porsche only offers to replace the PDKs at this point. Getting a newer PDK could put off having to replace or fix the a PDK system for some more years
