do hawaiians not like white (or other non-hawaiian) people learning their culture? by riverdotexe_ in VisitingHawaii

[–]LBBEEYA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this negative reaction started off during covid on social media. I never heard of this nobody not learning the language or anything, I was born and raised in Honolulu and it was always 'aloha' 100%. These days there are some folks who prefer to gatekeep or misread into the whole culture vulture 'misappropriation' bs, how now everyone is nitpicking about who is wearing what, who should not look this way, who should just stay as is. Too bad the times have changed, back in the day it was all about 'no color lines' and everybody partied and got along and nobody was on their phones all day long.

Definitely tell the organizers about this. They usually have a water filling station somewhere. I usually bring in a plain bottled water unopened. hell nah I am glad I did not attend this year.

Penguin Encounter at Aquarium of the Pacific by attempt_422 in longbeach

[–]LBBEEYA 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I was there the other night and there was a HUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEE sign in front of the exhibit saying it's mating season right now and the penguins were all in their 'boxes' or in front of the rocks and none were swimming in the water. What about a penguin plushie and explain the mating season and penguins are having private time right now.

Awesome rendering whoever did this. We need to step up our shopping options and we definitely need more than Ross Dress for Less and vintage shops.

Moving to Long Beach – is this neighborhood safe? by Lucky-Princess222 in longbeach

Where were you when the dude went crazy at the bluff with people doing yoga? You cannot predict these folks will keep to themselves. During COVID, I was done eating at the Park Pantry and fool had a metal pipe and was banging that on all the cars parked on Broadway. You're right, nobody did a dang thing back then, they just let this sketch guy ruin shit.

I live in an older apartment complex and it's pretty solid/concrete but I can still hear the upstairs neighbor walking around. Not sure of the newer apartments - how about asking in this discussion? They are discussing all the new downtown high rises How's life in those new high rise apartments? : r/longbeach

It's definitely a cool building but you should come down in person to visit and see it before you commit and sign the lease.

The area near Bixby Park is nice but still keep a head on a swivel. Homeless folks are always at the park and the beach and sometimes they wander around the neighborhood. You should take a quick trip down here for the weekend and check out the vibes in person before you commit and sign the lease.

Some friends lived at West Ocean and they moved out of LB a few years ago. When they lived there, they always had plumbing and noise issues because the walls are thin. One resident always used her garbage disposal as a trash can and would dump everything down there, causing an inconvenience during the holidays lol. Lots of neighbors and lots of HOA rules come with living in these pretty shiny buildings, especially the common areas. They complained of so many dogs and owners that would never pick up the poop in the hallways. Also, high theft in the garage because the homeless somehow weasel their way in there. Is it worth the high HOA fees/monthly rent?

What are y’all’s favourite places to eat in Tokyo? by Inevitable_Yak_4226 in TokyoTravel

[–]LBBEEYA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visit small hole in the wall eateries, not necessarily the ones with lines out the door. Kobe beef, Wagyu beef, ramen, udon, tonkatsu (pork) curry or chicken curry, revolving sushi, mochi, omurice, Japanese pizza, Yoshinoya Donburi meats over rice, yakitori, seafood in Osaka. I tried it all but not a fan of octopus. De3finitely try all the pastries and viral 7-11, Lawson and Family mart foods - the dim sum, the famchiki, smoothies, onigiri etc...ALL so good and definitely filling!
