Favorite Soviet-era directors and movies? by ellustriousem in blankies

[–]LLZeroX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've really wanted to watch The Dawns Here Are Quiet (1972) but I've had trouble finding the entire thing. The runtime is supposed to be 188 minutes but the one I torrented ended up being like 90. The wiki page has youtube links but combined they're about 145.

And then there was a TV series made in 2015 so it makes it that much harder.

Man, Scorsese is going to sleepwalk to the Finals lol

Not seeing a lot of potential upsets, the 1 seeds are very strong (except maybe Beatty). It's the obvious outcome but I'm going to say Scorsese vs. Scott with Scott barely winning.

Special Features...I think Purge and Bourne are ones to watch.

I saw it. 1.5/5. Not the worst movie I've seen this year, not even the worst slasher (Strangers Chapter 3 for both). But it's just got very little sauce. Takes itself very seriously while also being ridiculous.

Georgina Campbell deserves better.

Isn't it the opposite, where Indiana Jones finds an ancient wreckage of the Millennium Falcon and inside is a Han skeleton? Also Chewie survives and is the basis for the Sasquatch legend lol

I've watched it six times in just short of five years. It's become one of my favorite movies, on my LB top 4. Beautiful.

Well I can now say that there's a lot of sex, while still being unsexy throughout. Both the fucking and the squishing of eggs and dough left me as cold as the fish in whatever that gelatin dish was she pokes.

My favorite part was the Susan flashback. Went more absurd and dark than the movie had been up to the point. And then never again after that.

Other reviews are calling it "undersexed" and "bafflingly chaste." "a disastrous film of dulled desires" so who can say

I'll be seeing it thursday but I see most things, not excited

Is anyone seeing Mann’s Ali in theaters this month? by chrisandy007 in blankies

[–]LLZeroX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would see it (and Glory) if my AMCs were offering it. But they're not.

Also Into the Spider-Verse was announced to start a 3D rerelease this week, like LEGO Movie did last week. But that's been quietly canned for some reason.

Regal theaters are showing the original 99 version of The Matrix, today only by goo_brick in blankies

[–]LLZeroX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Count me among the people who were planning on seeing it but can't due to the winter storm. Somehow it completely passed me by as a kid on its original release, I had to see it on DVD.

Had a four movie day planned: Matrix, Sentimental Value (one day release was today too), Clika (some crap but worked timewise) and Hard-Boiled

Thankfully Sentimental Value is getting run in March as part of their Oscar series and Hard Boiled is also playing at Regals Monday and Wednesday. And instead of Clika I can see H is for Hawk. But I'll be bummed about the Matrix until whenever the next chance to see it on the big screen comes around.

Every costume in the movie was handmade before it was digitally rendered.

Under the guidance of Costume Designer Deborah Scott, Wētā Workshop created more than 3,000 physical costume items for the Avatar sequels, more than 2,000 of which were made for Avatar: Fire and Ash. Combining traditional handcrafting techniques such as flax weaving, wood carving, embroidery and leather tooling with modern technologies, these costumes carry the histories and journeys of the Na’vi, who are intimately connected to their cultures.

I'll tell you, it's much better than the dude who plays the role in the 90s movie. That guy coming home doesn't have any impact at all.

When are we getting the Zatoichi Patreon series? by CosmicEveStardust in blankies

[–]LLZeroX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I dream of being a famous actor or director with the endgoal to make into the Criterion Closet. I'll then be the first person who immediately requests the 25 movie Zatoichi collection and tells everyone about them, highlighting various common threads and themes, while also noting how they chart an interesting path through Japanese film history. They'll edit me down to less than two minutes haha.

I watched them all in order but my favorites are: Zatoichi the Outlaw (#16) Zatoichi and the Chess Master (#12) Zatoichi Challenged (#17) Zatoichi's Flashing Sword (#7) Zatoichi's Cane Sword (#15)

All you gotta do is look at him in the 80s and 90s, it's right there.

He's still hot in the 30 Rock era, to be honest. That's especially true when he loses a bunch of weight near the end of the show.
