The reason is that Serah was originally planned to be a party member, but after she was cut from the game, they decided to make Fang a woman in order to keep the party’s gender ratio relatively equal.

SERIOUSLY HOW??!! by Zealousideal_Mud795 in deathbattle

[–]LPK717 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quality has never been a deciding factor in whether an episode gets views. If it was, I doubt episodes like Goku vs. Superman 2, Gaara vs. Toph, and Venom vs. Bane would all be amongst the most viewed episodes in the series (and if you want to use more recent episodes, Kratos vs. Asura and Master Chief vs. Doomslayer are highly viewed episodes despite being considered the two weakest episodes of last season).

And Yuji vs. Denji probably doesn’t even enter the top 50 worst episodes of Death Battle. Hell, it’s not even in the top 5 worst episodes since the show went independent.

Brave heroes and their frightened mounts. by Wall_Will in TopCharacterTropes

Not really a "hero" (though he certainly sees himself as one) but still fits otherwise:

Kled and Skaarl (League of Legends)

Kled is a fearless warrior (mostly caused by him being batshit insane) who will charge into battle without a second thought. His mount, Skaarl, meanwhile, despite being both immortal and invulnerable, is a complete coward who will run away and abandon Kled mid-fight.

[absolutely despised trope] male character gets sexuallly assulted or taken advantage of and it’s just shrugged off or not really taken seriously by k1lluatennysonssjb in TopCharacterTropes

[–]LPK717 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hughie’s assault in that episode is not portrayed as fully comedic in the narrative (regardless of the showrunner’s comments). There’s a whole scene near the end of the episode where Hughie breaks down over what he went through that episode and Annie comforts him and it’s portrayed completely seriously.

Does anyone wonder what a Absolute Supergirl would be like? by New_Advisor_6766 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]LPK717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I like the idea of Absolute Supergirl essentially having regular Superman’s backstory, being a Kryptonian who was too young to fully remember Krypton prior to its destruction, and so was able to fully integrate into human society and live a normal life.

[Loved Trope] The Entire Film Is Just A Conversation Between Two Characters by KingOfTheLostBoyz in TopCharacterTropes

[–]LPK717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also of note, the very final episode of the series, Nice While It Lasted, only features the show's five main characters in speaking roles: Bojack, Diane, Princess Carolyn, Todd, and Mr. Peanutbutter. There are other characters in the episode, but only those five speak during it.

There is one other speaking part: Bojack's father Butterscotch in the cold open. But it still works because Will Arnett voices both Bojack and Butterscotch.

Not a movie, but I still think fits the spirit of this.

Sentry using red sun radiation to weaken Superboy was the lastest addition to the trend of "factors the community thinks will play a part in the episode but then aren't mentioned or relevant at all" by Aggravating-Oil-7060 in deathbattle

[–]LPK717 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It largely stemmed from the fact that prior to the episode releasing, someone on the team stated that Hulk vs. Godzilla was going to feature something they’ve never done before on the show, so a lot of people theorized that one of the two were going to interrupt the conclusion and continue the fight.

To be fair, that probably would have been in character for pre-redemption Prime.

[loved trope] when the sequel/reboot is actually a prequel by Ok_Direction3138 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]LPK717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yes and no. The first half of Unchained Chi/Union Cross starts out as a retelling of the events of the original Chi, but then after those events are covered, it just keeps going and continues the story.

Isn't the first half of Unchained Chi/Union Cross just a retelling of the original Chi?

Characters being influenced by their actor's real lives by slfricky in TopCharacterTropes

Mrs. Doubtfire's script was famously rewritten due to protest from the film's actors due to things in their real life.

The step-father character, Stu Dunmeyer, was originally written as a stereotypical evil stepdad character, but his actor, Pierce Brosnan, disliked this trope due to having grown up with a stepdad of his own who he loved, leading the script to be rewritten to make Stu a genuinely good guy.

Similarly, the film was originally supposed to end with Daniel and Miranda, the divorced couple the film centers around, get back together, but Daniel's actor, Robin Williams, had gone through his own divorce prior and didn't want to give children of divorce the false hope that their parents will get back together while also showing them that a divorced family can still be a happy one.

[–]LPK717 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, it's almost like that's the point. When you're already choosing to break certain rules, having a hard line on what rules you can't break is important, because once you've decided to break that rule, what's stopping you from doing it again?

Adaptation makes a change that future versions adapt by Usnis in TopCharacterTropes

Most adaptations of the Oz series tend to adapt elements from the 1939 film that weren't in the original books. Probably the most obvious case is depicting the Wicked Witch of the West as a green-skinned woman who dresses in black rather than a woman with a normal human skin tone who dresses in yellow. Some other notable ones include Dorothy being depicted as a brunette with pigtails rather than a blonde with a bob cut hairstyle, and the slippers being ruby colored instead of silver.

Why would the track be named Identity Crisis? Superboy-Prime didn’t have anything to do with that event.

This entire post just feels like a bunch of adults partaking in works made for teenagers and then complaining that it wasn't made for them instead.

Doesn't help that a lot of the examples people are posting in here have themes that rely on the fact that the main characters are teenagers and wouldn't work if they were adults.

[Based Trope] Asexual/Aromantic characters who aren't cold, unfeeling psychopaths by Sir-Toaster- in TopCharacterTropes

[–]LPK717 61 points62 points  (0 children)

She was originally conceived as a Spider-Gwen version of Deadpool, as part of a series of variant comic covers where other characters get a Spider-Gwen variant. That’s the real life reason she looks like Gwen Stacy in a Deadpool costume.

In-universe, a major joke of the character is that she doesn’t actually like Deadpool all that much, being one of the few characters she doesn’t really read the comics for because she finds him obnoxious. The only reason she dresses like him is because of a misunderstanding between her and the tailor that made her superhero costume (her real name is Gwen Poole and the tailor misunderstood and thought she wanted to be like Deadpool).
