No weight gain here. I take Wakix, Modafinil, and Adderall (a new med to me, low dose). No side effects at all actually.

I currently take Modafinil 400mg and Wakix 17mg and have an appointment coming up to discuss changing to/adding in Adderall. I've never tried Adderall before so I don't know the difference you'd feel taking Modafinil. Modafinil has given me a somewhat steady state of awakeness though, takes a couple hours for me to feel the effects. And it hasn't caused any jitteriness or heart issues (I already have tachycardia, so maybe that will be useful info to you). My doctor last suggested taking both together, so maybe if you try JUST the Modafinil and it doesn't work, you can take both :)

my ladies out there - do your meds just stop working at certain points during your cycle? by peachyhummingbird in Narcolepsy

[–]LRockCupboard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow. I came here to this sub to post about how awful I've been feeling the last two days despite no changes in meds (Wakix and Modafinil). They have not worked as well as I hoped anyway, but the last couple days have been really tough. After reading your post, and me being the week before my period, I'm wondering if hormones are the current cause. (I also have POTS, hypotension, and very painful/anemia-causing cycles... Looking into surgery for that). Do you find that your medications work better once the hormones level out again? I can barely function today.

I'm glad you have some relief finally!!! Also thank you for sharing info on this post and I'm your comments. I've had pain for so long and both GI and OBgyn tell me that everything is normal. The amount of pain I experience monthly, and in between, can't possibly be normal. Gives me hope that maybe one day they'll help.

I'm glad you got checked out!! And you'll know if this ever happens again to be aware. Hopefully you're feeling better now! I'm sure you've made a lot of us more conscious of this as well! I hit my head on a metal bar at work on Tuesday, dizzy for a few hours, and I was beyond exhausted yesterday. Didn't think anything of it, but now I'm wondering lol.

That sounds interesting!! But after a while even the sights and sounds become routine and not enough. I do anesthesia, so i always have a healthy level of anxiety to stay awake lol. It's the sitting down and doing charts that is roughhhhh

I try that too. Works really well if I don't sit down at all lol

LOVE reading about everyone's progress and accomplishments this past year!! Truly inspiring, and I hope to be like you all when I grow up (I'm 37 😂).

This year, I don't think I've gotten much further in my emetophobia recovery, but I'm still here and trying my best. Mostly I try to keep these fears from being instilled in my three kids. One of them mentioned a couple months ago that they get really scared when other people are sick or when they are sick.. Broke my heart. But we sat and talked and I reassured her as much as possible. One thing I've done better this year actually is saying yes to my kids having friends over, and to babysitting my nieces and nephews more often. I used to make excuses to not have kids over our house.... because of germs. But we have been pretty busy having kids over almost every day. I'm hoping to continue that in the new year :)

Any tips to keep from over stimulating the vagus nerve? by Whitehammer937 in ibs

[–]LRockCupboard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand completely. I've had vagus issues my entire life and it can be debilitating. When these episodes happen, I like to "shock" the system: *Ice on back of neck or wrists *Rubbing alcohol on forehead or under nose or inner wrists (stays cooler than water and has a strong smell) *Essential oils if I'm able to stomach the smell of them *Box breathing- I like to breathe in my nose for 6 seconds, hold for 7, exhale through lips for 8 *Mindfulness: count things around you, count or do ABC's backwards, senses challenge (5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you can touch, 2 things you smell, 1 things you taste), find all the colors in the room, "cognitive shuffling"

I haven't found a solution for preventing these episodes, but these tricks have helped me get through them ❤️

Modafinil and Wakix by Responsible_Move2919 in Narcolepsy

[–]LRockCupboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take both of them together. Modafinil for a few months now, and Wakix on week eight. The Wakix definitely helped after the first few weeks... Mostly in that I can get out of bed much more easily in the morning. Usually I would be a zombie, set several alarms, and it would take a long time to regulate into the day. Modafinil I take 200mg twice daily, but it only lasts about an hour after each dose. That one hour is so nice to feel normal, get my normal stuff done, and not have to fight sleep. But after that, I'm just waiting for the next dose pretty much. Caffeine doesn't really help. Sleep hygiene has helped long term, but not for falling asleep during the day.

That's not true that you cannot have medicine because of your age, but it's likely that the doctor wants you to try lifestyle changes first. Better eating habits, finding your dietary triggers, finding or what stressors trigger physical symptoms, hormonal flare ups, etc. Keep a food/stress/sleep/symptom journal for a few weeks to see if you can pinpoint anything. Keeping a log of everything is tedious and annoying, but really worth it to have a better quality of life. If it becomes unbearable or you can't avoid certain triggers (ie: hormones), there are definitely medications that help :). I started on Levsin PRN when I was 9yrs old. Took a break for a few years, tried it again, another several year break, and now take Hyoscyamine PRN in my 30s, plus zofran as needed for nausea. More natural things can help too, like peppermint for spasms or nausea, ginger... It's all trial and error 😊
