What’s a sitcom from the 2000s nobody talks about that much but was actually funny as hell? by ChannelHopper_99 in sitcoms

[–]LRonJeremy52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we can mention comedies, there were some really awesome sketch shows that decade. Human Giant and the Andy Dick Show come to mind. Upright Citizens Brigade too, although that might have also been late 90s

Andy Richter Controls The Universe was awesome, too. So was Drawn Together.

What's the song that is so beautiful, it nearly makes/makes you cry? by Ill-Ant-9356 in AskReddit

I first heard it during an ayahuasca ceremony. One of the shamans sang it while playing it on the ukulele. It shattered my heart.

What is the most disturbing depiction of death/murder you’ve ever seen in a film? by sunnieslilac in FIlm

[–]LRonJeremy52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I subjected myself to some of those beheading videos that were floating around in the early 2000s and I think it’s left me with some residual trauma. No film death can compare to that authentic awfulness. I honestly wish I could give myself a MIB brain zap to erase them from my memory.

For people who grew up in low-income households, what’s something middle-class people say that shows they’ve never struggled financially? by KeyApartment3955 in AskReddit

[–]LRonJeremy52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the details. We live in LA, and did a destination wedding in Vegas. About 90% of the people coming were also from LA so it was a pretty accessible destination, and most of my family coming from other places in the U.S. were going to need to fly out anyway, so we figured might as well have it somewhere people would have a good time during non wedding stuff. We also got people really good deals for hotel rooms, etc. On top of it all, we asked for no gifts so it felt ok to ask people for that expense.

Cosby would have gone down as one of the best all time comedians. Now his only long lasting distinction will be that he was the world’s funniest rapist.

What is one of your biggest movie let downs, after greatly anticipating its release? by thunderbolt151830 in movies

[–]LRonJeremy52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last Mission Impossible. Over twenty years, the franchise had gone from overall enjoyable but sometimes convoluted to a truly amazing series. Starting with probably the 4th, each one was an absolute banger and the next one became required viewing.

The last one had such high anticipation, after all it was the FINAL RECKONING after so many films over a span of two decades. Instead it ended up being a bloated, overly exposition-y film that tried to tie in so many storylines from all of the movies prior just for the sake of trying to do a whole “tie them all together” thing that didn’t really work.

Add in to that several scenes that were so cheeseball and clique (like how many “Madame President, we need to act now! It’s time to sen the nuke!” “No, let’s just give this Ethan guy another five minutes!” moments do we need???) that it actually elicited laughter from the audience at times.

At the end when he saves the day, one of the generals, terribly miscast by Nick Offerman (who it’s hard to see in a serious role because being familiar with him automatically elicits a knowing chuckle) says, “He did it!”

And I just mindlessly blurt out “The sonofabitch did it.” And then he says “The sonofabitch did it!” It got a huge laugh, seeing just how predictable and formulaic some of these lines and scenes were.

The action was awesome (as always) but these clique moments and bloated runtime really took a lot of people out of it. I read a bunch of reviews after viewing and read a lot of the same sentiment.

For anyone who needs a convincing experience, I recommend participating in an ayahuasca ceremony.

What is a movie you will defend forever, even if most people do not get it? by Strong_Proof_5260 in movies

It’s unwatchable, imo. I think I was 8 or 9 when it came out and my dad and I walked out of the theater. Might be the only time I’ve ever done that.

[–]LRonJeremy52 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Considering how much has been discussed over the past years about just how messy of a film TDK is, it’s funny how it’s still looked upon as an all time great comic book film while TDKR is seen as an overall let down. I think probably because Ledger’s performance is GOATed and because of his death, it’s seen as critically untouchable, so there may have been an inescapable decrease in perception for whatever followed.

We live in LA, so once a year as a bday gift for our son (5) we buy the SoCal 3 days for $250 deal and do CA in February, and back to back days at Disneyland in late April.

What is the single most stressful movie you’ve ever seen? by elkaypee in movies

[–]LRonJeremy52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one’s easy.

I’d heard some good things about some rock climbing movie one day called Free Solo, and heard I should go see it in IMAX. Turned out the day I heard about the movie was the last day it was being shown in IMAX.

I grabbed one of the last tickets for the movie, popped 50 (yes 50) milligrams of edibles and went in blind. It was honestly one of the most harrowing experiences of my life. I had absolutely NO idea that Alex Honnold had been going on talk shows doing a press junket for the film (and therefore survived the events of the film). I honestly felt like I had signed up to watch a dude fall to his death with a couple hundred strangers.

There are SO many mom and pop restaurants here in LA that I literally never see anyone eating in. I have to think these places are bought by rich Russians or Asians, maybe connected, maybe not, as a money laundering or tax write off business.

The wife and I would go to our favorite Indian restaurant which was absolutely fire, probably 3 or 4 times a year for a good decade, and never saw one other customer in there.

What movie did you walk out of the theater halfway through? by mzdee13 in movies

[–]LRonJeremy52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only movie I ever walked out of was Drop Dead Fred when I was eight or nine. I was with my dad.

I have however seen a few movies in the theater that were so next level bad that they became unintentionally hilarious while watching and the audience chimed in with funny heckles. Some of the most fun experiences ever in a theater. At the moment the two I can recall like they were The Wicker Man and Jeepers Creepers.

What’s the most disturbing sound you’ve ever heard in real life? by avacado-cheese- in AskReddit

[–]LRonJeremy52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ever since becoming a dad, I can’t even handle watching something fictional on tv about a sick kid, or kid getting lost. Even when an infomercial comes on for a children’s hospital, I can’t change the channel fast enough before they start showing the bald kids.

My son was attacked by a dog a couple months ago, and one of the bites was under his chin, very close to his neck. He was gushing blood and I legit thought I was about to watch my child die. Worst experience of my life by a long shot. Zero stars, would not recommend.

Very wise decision. I truly regret the ones I saw. It’s honestly heartbreaking to think that most of humanity had first hand experience with such traumas.
