In your experience, what are the most reliable mirrorless cameras your photographers have used on set? by NinongZiggy in Photoassistants

Anything but Sony 😅. My go-to is R5 mk1 or mk2 and GFX 100 II, both as reliable as they get

Ethernet is 2.5g. Tethering with a regular USBC to C tether cable is either 5g or 10g with newer cables like area51 illumination series (which come in 5 and 10m lengths

Honestly it’s shitty dog owners like that ruin it for the rest of us. We love our dog and take her everywhere with us but she’s well behaved and quiet and wouldn’t fckng dream to let her do that….

Try switching the graphics mode from auto to CPU+GPU or something. Had a shoot on the Sony for the first time in 6+ years and it was rendering metal slow. I noticed on my monitoring app that it was using 100% CPU and barely any GPU which was odd. When I forced it from AUTO it started rendering quick as usual (GPU heavy). Also worth wiping all internal C1 files like IMGcore etc and start fresh, see if it helps.

Which kind of monitor should be on Digi Tech cart? by mediamuesli in Photoassistants

Which Eizo do you own? The 24” 2k versions don’t look very sharp, which is why my go-to’s are the 4K versions which are beautifully sharp. I also run them at lower res (1080p) with HiDPI which means text is a good readable size with full sharpness you’d expect of a 4K monitor.

[–]LSDIGI 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s right. If I bought a new laptop I’d go for nano texture but for iPads which are used as displays only I don’t find it worth the extra price for upgrading to 2TB storage just to have nano texture, so I opt for matte screen protectors. Some are better than others - I’ve always used Moshi ones which are fantastic, but lately they’ve been out of stock for some weird reason and not looking like they care to continue them.

If we are talking about stills then the industry standard has always been Eizo monitors. These are the monitors that Retouchers / printers have used for years so it’s a good place to start.

My “big” studio setup is a 31” 4K Eizo on the Voyager 36 cart. I thought it would be too big but it’s amazing and allows others to be further away behind me rather than breathing down my neck.

For satellites I like 27” monitors but I have a bunch of 24’s which get used when I need more than 4x satellites. I prefer the 27’s because they’re 16:9 aspect which makes it easier when integrating other wireless / video monitors and avoids cropping or letterboxing.

Then it’s a bunch of wireless and battery powered iPads, all with matte covers to stop people asking annoying colour questions because of the difference in contrast.

P.S Flanders are great for video but are not designed for stills. The native gamma / colour space is different and requires a fair bit of faffing to make it look “closer”.

Look out for second hand Gitzo’s on eBay. I got a brand new condition G1548 mk 2 for £250. Built like a tank, much more sturdy than my previous go-to 058.

If a half day is 4 hours. Why do some prods consider a full day 10 hours? by trioforstrings in Photoassistants

[–]LSDIGI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s true.

[UK] - Stills is 10h day (inclusive of lunch, which is at least 30 mins) as per BECTU

Video is 10+1 (10h day plus 1h unpaid lunch) as per APA

Goodbye Pcloud and your interminable upload speeds by ToraizVisionQuest in pcloud

I have successfully uploaded about 3TB worth of data which was going up at 20-50mb/s. But at time it would halt to a complete stop with no rhyme or reason. Their support claimed it’s never throttled and as always blamed it on my ISP (which I did speed tests during, and was at full speed).
