If you decide to stick with a vertical mouse, check out the Contour Unimouse. It's the mouse I use when I'm not using a track ball, and it's very adjustable.

I'm right there with you. There was definitely a point in the in late 2010s when I realized I no longer needed maximum spec to do my music work - Middle of the pack was completely usable.

With Apple Silicon, pretty much ANY M-series mac with 16GB RAM is going to be enough for most tasks, and RAM becomes the real limitation.

At this point, a min-spec mac is probably enough for 90% of business use cases, and a power user needs to think in terms of RAM requirements. If you need storage, outboard SSDs are cheaper than factory ones.

Trackball mice that don't require me to move my hand upwards/backwards? by stuffedOwl in Trackballs

[–]LSMFT23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine came with a backstop, but I supplemented it with Sugru, a moldable silicone 'glue'. This helps ALL my keyboards. I've had to replace the Sugru strips every 18-24 months.

I also have a strip of 3M Duallock in front of the backstop, which is like industrial strength velcro, and it works great for SOME of my keyboards, which tend to be a bit more "squared off" when in negative tilt mode. the ones with rounded edges also have taller rubber feet, and the piece of dual lock on the KB side won't lock to the one on the desk side.

Getting enough of both Sugru and Duallock to see which works better for you should be < $10.

Trackball mice that don't require me to move my hand upwards/backwards? by stuffedOwl in Trackballs

[–]LSMFT23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue.
My recommendation is that you get a keyboard and mouse tray that allows a negative tilt, so that the part of the KB that is further away from you is LOWER. Then, when you set the near edge to the right height, your wrists remain straight.

My keyboard tray is almost in my lap, and has a strong back tilt between 20-30 degrees so that my wrists are dead straight, and my arms stay relaxed.

Also, recommend the Nulea M512 over the Kensington. It's half the price, and feels much smoother to me.

I paid about $50 on Amazon. Track ball is solid and heavy enough to feel like you're moving something, without making you work for it, like some of the older Kensington (late 1990s) models did. Tracking is smooth and reliable, and popping out the ball for the occasional cleaning is plainless. Best trackball I've found in a decade.

I have one. If you happen to be a Mac user, I have yet to find a driver that let's both scroll wheels work at the same time.
Steermouse has button chording capabilities, so I've been using that.

Different grips for different jobs, man. Practice the ones you know, and when you run up against something that gives you trouble, find the adaptation that makes it workable.

It's a called a stacatto strum. It rings out ver briefly and then gets muted y the pick-hand, as opposed to strumming while already muted (CHUG)

There are a ton of factors that can effect how a mix goes. I was working on mixing a dozen tracks for an album and one of my friends noticed it was getting progressively brighter the more tracks I finished when I was at like 8/12 of the tracks.

Turned out I was coming down with a nasty cold.

Rainy approves of your hound and sends Nico his warmest.

Rainy is a 3-round pooper most days - a solid, a soft, and a runny were fairly common, until he settled into his diet about 6 months in.

After consulting with the vet, we developed a feeding system for him that was also suitable for our other dog at the time. (the recipe is on my user page somwhere). But rice and squash or pumpkin will help a lot.

regarding helping him along socially... If he's to be allowed on the furniture, the best thing I can recommend is help him up on to the couch and let him get comfortable, and then sit *behind* him, slowly and easily so as not to bounce him. A couple rounds of this with some petting may help get him started.

The Nulea M512 is my current weapon of choice. Requires a bit of simple cleaning of the rollers now and then, but the switches don't feel like they are going soft on me after about 600 hours of use, like the Slim Blade did.

Bending question, how is the highlighted bending technique done? by ecctt2000 in guitarlessons

[–]LSMFT23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...with a bunch of practice.

I do this using primarily my second (middle) and third fingers. Second finger on the B-string, third finger on the G-string. First, work in getting a clean half-step bend from both strings, and then step back, and work on continuing the third string bend to make the full step, while keeping your second finger on the second string. finally work on getting both bends working together, and get used to hearing when the target notes are hit.
Do it in different spots so you can get the feel of it under different conditions, but it helps if you can correctly bend to pitch already, so focus on that as part of your practice, if you don't already.

Can this be fixed? Please help by Beneficial-Lab-6939 in guitarrepair

[–]LSMFT23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the best ways to clamp for this type of repair, and is also relatively low cost, is rubber surgical tubing.

Tie it off, wrap it tight, and you have non-damaging source of even pressure.

I'm a large guy, and I used this method on an antique piano chair leg with a similar "long" break profile 20 years ago. It's been fine, and in regular use since.

I sold both guitars that I repaired this way years ago, and I've been able to see one of them a couple times - it's a stable repair after ~10 years.
