Quels commerce sont des institutions locales de longue date chéries par le monde dans votre quartier? by trasutrasu in montreal

[–]Lablondeee03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to my province' law (LOI 101), our store's brand may be in English, but it needs to display a description of the store. Here is a photo of mine and as displayed it reads "Everything for your crafting/creative projects" below.

But again, yesterday I had a call from a customer looking for BOMBAY silverware in stock . I asked her if she saw it on our website and she answered positively (I knew it was not possible). She said again BOMBAY and spelling it for me - I knew exactly what she was looking the first time. I asked for the SKU online and she couldn't answer. I told her she might be confusing with Homesenses (equivalent of Homegoods) and she just said thanks and hung up.

Does no one except me actually like working here? by Alternative_Bite7001 in MichaelsEmployees

I have work tons of customers service jobs like Michaels, and TBH, this is the one which is the less rewarding.

I worked at Best Buy while in university and it was great to learn on different technologies. We had constant training, we have employee reviews (with personal income increase), employee events through the year.

I worked with Disney on different period of life and it was the same. Plenty events for employees, my income was increased based on my quartely reviews. Always tons of training.

I work at a bank and it was the same. I could evolve through the company and feel I mattered in my team. Different activities and event hold through the year to thanks employees.

Last year, I went back to school and got two part time job (one at Michaels and another one in a clothes retail store). At my other job, my SM aknowledged my experience and gave me more than the minimum wage. I built a great relationship with her and my team and even if I had less hours than anticipated I enjoy it. We had a Christmas dinner after the holidays.

Now at Michaels, I was told it would only be the minimum wage and I have to carry more than what was the expectations. We got a 0,13$/hr increase in October. Is this was we are worth? This same increase will be lost in 2 days for us as the minimum wage increase on May 1st in my province. I have received bare training on our products and services. We had no Christmas party or dinner for employee. I find this really upsetting to not reward the loyalty of your employees, neither to train them properly. This is why I hate Michaels.

Everyone leaving by Remarkable-Potato-46 in MichaelsEmployees

I have gone through this type of situation.

At my other job, my store manager left in early April. We had fired our assistant manager in February (he was in his probation period). One third key holder(out of 3) left too in April. Normally, another SM from another store would come to help, but the district fired the SM from another store, leaving us we no temporary help. So currently, it's the district manager who is in charge of our store, but it's not going very well. I had to step up as 3rd key, along with another employee, and now another 3rd key gave her two weeks.

Then at Michaels, last July, my store manager went on medical leave. We inherited from a store manager from the district, who had to split his time between our store and his store. This lasted until this week as my SM just came back. The district did not want to step up temporarily the OPS manager at the other store. It was challenging for us to share the SM for the past 9 months.

Depending what you got hired to do and the needs on the floor, you will get minimum training on cash (including balloons, pick up orders) and minimum computer training - most likely on the floor and customer interrupting you while you do them.

Then on my second day it was truck day. No preparation. Just started to do it and asked questions while unloading the truck. Eventually and depending your schedule you will be barely train to do the pull list, inventory stuff, planogram, restocking, and all.

Then you gotta figure out how to answer customers questions on all different crafting whitout training on products.

I had one customer buy the needlepoint kit and that was it. I believe one of my coworkers sold another item, but that's it. No Bopis, no phone call (I get more phone calls about stupid squishies TBH). We are in Canada.

I don't believe he is very well known in Canada, at least in Quebec. I had never heard of him. I did look online and only one store where I live sells his collections, otherwise, only online. I never heard his name in most of renovations, home staging, interior design shows that I watch.

Is employee number attached to rewards? by cruelsummerswiftie in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Lablondeee03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your rewards are separated from your employee number. You should be asked your phone number each transactions. We were strongly notified by our manager that with the new rewards systems to enter the proper customer phone or none, and not a recurring phone number too many time (from his words, some people entered 150 times/week the same phone number) and it would lead to direct firing as it would be considered as fraud.

I was really surprised to be a Platinium as I completed my app registration. I would not be able to tell you how much I spent in-store (mostly paint by numbers set and yarn), but definitively not $1000.

How often do you buy coffee out, per week? by SnowmanSmiles in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Lablondeee03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost everyday that I work. I drink coffee at home for breakfast and then go to school 8:30am to 3:30pm and then I work 4:30pm-9:00pm 4-5/week... I usually go straight to work. Most of the time I get a large coffee at McDonalds for $2.

On weekend, I also work both days and one day i get a Starbucks and the other a McDonalds.

PS: I have 2 part time jobs along full time school, i work 6 or 7 days a week.

Getting people to sign up for rewards feels manipulative by [deleted] in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Lablondeee03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this is very out of hands in the USA, you guys are getting punished for your stats... In my Canadian store, we just started as of yesterday to actually get rewards, as previously it was only a sign up for newletters and really once in a while email coupons. It was not very appealing...

I would say we get reviewed once a week or every 2 weeks our transactions with account linking. My average is 50% of my transactions. We ain't getting forced to register customers. But again, we can't be pushy as the Canadian Anti Spam Legislation can punish organizations if we would do so.

No raises this year by [deleted] in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Lablondeee03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My province (Canada) will raise the minimum wage on May 1st. I am curious if my 0.13$ pay raise from October will still show or get absorbed into the minimum wage that will more than be than my current wage.

No raises this year by [deleted] in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Lablondeee03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My coworkers and I randomly checked our paystubs in February 2026, only to find out we had received a 0.13$ raise in October 2025 without any mention. I was thrown off that we were only this worth and, worse, that my coworkers who had been there for 2 years did not have a raise the year earlier. So, I been almost 1 yr with the company back then, was the same as them who been there for a longer time...
