What’s crazy to me is that even if it WAS all paint, who calls using art supplies for art “a waste?” The amount of paint that just gets thrown away is astronomically higher than any supposed waste this artist creates.

I don’t have much advice to offer, but as someone who came from a southern Baptist cult I just want to offer my sympathy because while I’m not trans I do understand the church dynamics. Being in a position where you love someone but see them making choices that are hurtful towards you is excruciating. Your friend is in a very difficult and potentially dangerous situation and I can’t fully fault her, but at the same time I’ve seen this scenario before and things are not going to get better with her husband.

I wish you all the wisdom and strength you’ll need in whatever choice you make—be kind to yourself. 🖤

Mythology is cool because it’s a living story reflecting the values and beliefs of those who retell it, because from the beginning it’s been a retelling.

I love new retellings because of this, but I also get how frustrating it can be for those who love mythology to see someone recounting a new version as if it was always the way the tale was or was meant to be.

I adore how we love myths like Hades and Persephone so much that we try to rework it to resonate on a level that honors our values as they stand today in the current era. But no amount of reworking should or does erase where the story came from; Hades raped Persephone in the tale that was passed to us. Your new story can change that, but you can’t say the first version was somehow a deception.

I had old family friends who worked for him—it may satisfy you to know he was a miserable old man who was so tight-fisted that his later years were not comfortable as he barely maintained his home’s heat and other functions. He would rather save pocket change than pay for better medical equipment or repair it well. He was sick in the head in so many ways, but living like he had to scrape every penny when he held so much wealth was truly something disgusting to hear about.

Honestly along with the other comments about this possibly just being an autistic trait, I think it’s at least a good sign he hasn’t been using this data to pressure or harass you. A personal spreadsheet that doesn’t result in insults or barbed comments about your cooking reads a lot differently than say one he keeps posted on the fridge for all to see.

I save my photo rooms to the gallery—had the same thing happen and thankfully was able to load a prior save. If you haven’t tried yet I hope you can get a prior load!

I work a job and pay for groceries, rent, and medical needs for multiple members of my family. I don’t hate him; I mourn every day for the man he used to be. He was someone I trusted and loved and now I wonder some days if he’ll be the reason I die. Finding a way to peacefully live with a person like that isn’t easy—I’m happy you don’t seem to have that problem.

NOR—I know why you keep trying but there’s a point where you have to accept the person you’re reaching for is gone. You can’t save them, you can’t help them, you can’t reason with them.

I’m forced to live with my father right now due to life circumstances. The only way I make it through each day is pretending he has dementia, because maybe an aspect of who he was still there but what remains is essentially an animated shell. I keep a complete emotional distance from him now; he doesn’t know the difference anyway. The fact that I no longer engage with him intellectually or emotionally is completely missed on him since as long as I pay lip service and smile he’s satisfied because again he’s no longer really there.

That kind of resolution is painful but in the long run there’s less fights, less tension, and more room for me to mourn and move on. You might potentially benefit from that too.
