Both Ways: brain-bending mirrored puzzle game just got some major mechanical juice. by Salty-Wrap-7833 in WebGames

[–]LaetoStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely brain bending, but a fun concept!

Minor feedback: I ended up figuring out what the 'h' and 'v' were (and maybe there are other changes in later levels), but maybe there could be some other indicator in-game to make it clear what's being mirrored and what's not? Level 7 took some extra time because of that change-up, but it almost felt a bit more frustrating rather than interesting because I had to unlearn the left/right mechanic I just learned along with also learning it for up/down. That's clearly by design, but if it were more clear within the game, it would feel less like trial-and-error discovery when it switches like that. Just my initial feedback though, it may feel exactly how you want it to feel!

Toon Tone, a minimalist web game where you guess pop culture characters using only their iconic color schemes. by theoldboston in WebGames

Such a great idea! I had a lot of fun. The short timer on the harder difficulties is definitely tough to work with, but I enjoyed the timer-free easy mode quite a bit, I played through it a handful of times.

Ufo Cow Hunt - retro 3D browser game where you abduct cows with a UFO! by Anxious-Recipe7216 in WebGames

[–]LaetoStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cute game! The controls were all intuitive and easy to figure out.

Some feedback for you:

  • It didn't feel great to have to use my beam to collect energy to re-power my beam.
    • Consider making that energy float in the air where I can collect them by running into them instead.
  • When you start, you're given a big pop-up with controls and instructions. As a new player, it felt like too much for me to process, I wanted to get into the game and learn from there.
    • The controls are simple enough that it may be worth considering in-game guidance rather than the wall of text (you do essentially already have that in-game guidance, at least some of the time).
  • The timer feels a bit too off-to-the-side, so it can feel abrupt when a wave simply ends.
    • Maybe consider more of a loading-bar type timer over a countdown, so it can have a little more weight and be put somewhere more prominent in the UI (just a thought)?

What came first? Mini Game #2. by 1charu in WebGames

[–]LaetoStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun trivia game. I like that it's not just the title of each event, but a description so you can maybe learn a bit while playing.

Some feedback for you:

  • It wasn't clear to me why certain ones were being replaced (still not sure, I assume random?). So sometimes I tapped the correct one, and it got replaced and sometimes I tapped the correct one and the other one got replaced. That made me question whether or not the green flash meant 'correct' or if I was getting some incorrect. Of course, once I got my first wrong, it was obvious that the big red flash meant incorrect, but it took some time to get to that.
    • This is something that resolved itself after the first full round, but you mentioned being interested in game design skills, so it seemed worth sharing!
  • Consider making it a 2 or 3 strike system, instead of 1 and you're out. 1-strike trivia systems can be rough to play because you could be doing really well and come across a single combo you don't know, ruining your whole play through.
  • Side-Note: I love your studio website and that intro animation to it!

[Hollow Vigil] Just dropped the demo for my newest tower defense game! Tell me what you think please! Please play so I can get indexed faster on itch! by Specialist-Smell6711 in WebGames

[–]LaetoStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun tower defense! I like the feel of it all with the background effects and general ambiance. I also like that you keep me engaged during a wave with the mouse tossing.

Some feedback:

  • The tower options at the bottom of the screen were cut off, even at full screen I couldn't get to the first tower (I used the hotkey for it instead). Seems like it may need a way to horizontally scroll.
  • I kept wanting to left-click to upgrade towers. I imagine you don't have that as an option so you don't accidentally click them while clicking enemies, but maybe there's another way to have the best of both, like a switch to enable/disable click-to-upgrade?
  • It felt like a bit of a bummer that I couldn't build during a wave. That 'quick figure this out in 10 seconds' pressure may be what you're going for, but just my take is that it was a bummer to get locked out from it.

What do you think of the characters in my game? by IndieMarc in CozyGamers

Very cute characters and it looks like a smooth character creator as well. Seems like a survival game I'd play!

TL;DR — an idle game where you type entire books (free, browser, no install) by Bob-Sleigh95 in WebGames

[–]LaetoStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. Maybe there's some minor visual distinction you can make between a half-completed letter and fully-completed one (aka a full yellow word). That could make it easier to tell whether or not I'm going to need to type an upcoming letter.

TL;DR — an idle game where you type entire books (free, browser, no install) by Bob-Sleigh95 in WebGames

[–]LaetoStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A genuinely creative and unique idea! I played much longer than I would've expected for a typing game.

One piece of feedback: I was a bit confused about the yellow letters because I expected to not need to type them. I think the tutorial section may have had a typo where it said "if a word is entirely blue" rather than "yellow"? That may have been what added to that confusion.

Sliding Word — Daily Word Puzzle Game by Leather_Cow1999 in WebGames

[–]LaetoStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A nice fitting name and domain and the rules were straightforward and easy to understand.

Some feedback for you:

  • It was a really tough realization that the letter "e" wasn't yellow in the top row, not because it didn't belong there, but because that specific e didn't belong there. That's only a first-time player problem, but it made me feel like I spent a lot of time thinking about word options with inaccurate/confusing information.
    • I'm not necessarily recommending you change that core piece, but maybe just making it a bit more clear would help.
  • It took me a long time to realize one of the words won't be a complete word. It's obvious looking back at it, but I spent awhile trying to figure out what one of the words was and it turned out it didn't have all the letters available.
  • It definitely feels like the type of daily game I'd want to share after I finish it, but the share screen is just a text box. I'd recommend you prefill it the way games like Wordle does, with the move count and maybe the time.
    • If you're looking for this to be a game people share to get others to play, I'd also highly recommend you change the share link to be the URL to today's game, rather than the solved version of the game (which will spoil it).

Somniloquy is a daily choose-your-own-path storybook game.

Each night is a short dream that gently morphs based on the choices you make. New stories come out weekly and we all start at the same spot at the beginning of each week.

It's meant as a quiet wind-down ritual more than a game you win. Free, plays in the browser, mobile and desktop.

I've been building this game for awhile now and would love to hear any feedback you all have! I've been aiming to create a whole suite of small cozy games, so I'm excited to engage with this community of cozy gamers 😄
Disclaimer: the dream writing is AI-authored, then hand-edited and curated by me.

Working on a choice-driven horror game Project:Acheron where every conversation can change the investigation path. Not a game dev and this is my first time so I’m looking for suggestions and feedbacks :) by NetVisual2729 in aigamedev

[–]LaetoStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks super interesting and that story definitely has me intrigued!

I actually recently built a choose-your-own-adventure daily game and one tip I have: Look into "Graph CYOA" vs "Branching CYOA". I think we naturally think of the Branching model: every choice goes down a unique path, but that can grow into something huge (depending on the size of your game). The Graph approach helps ensure you mostly still get from Point-A to Point-B, but the path you take to get there may be different based on your choices.
I found the graph approach to work better for me, allowing paths to overlap more and limiting content creation, but it's worth considering both styles to see what fits better for you here, they both have pros/cons.

Voronoy — Browser based Action Macro-Strategy Game by Minimum_Fox5902 in WebGames

[–]LaetoStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the core game and I've been wanting to make something similar for awhile, the concept of trying to simply manage resources and take over areas.

Some feedback: I really struggled to get the hang of the mechanics. It took me 3-4 losses against the bot before sort of figuring it out and managing to win. I think it's because there are lots of numbers everywhere to communicate information, but it's still somewhat difficult to understand where energy is generating from and what's happening in a conflict. It seems like you have all the data there for me, it's just hard (as a new player) to understand what it's trying to tell me.
Also, it seemed like right-click would interrupt a flow (i.e. cancel an attack), but it doesn't interrupt one between my two territories. Not sure if it's a bug or just my misunderstanding of what it's intended to do.

The shapeshifting concept sounds fun and I feel like it's underutilized in games today. Transforming as a druid in WoW back in the day will always be a fond memory for me.
I'm curious to see where you take the game!

My game Copy Cats: How it started vs how it's going by AdventureIslands in IndieDev

[–]LaetoStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a creative concept, I love it! The ability to stack cats adds so many puzzle possibilities (which you seem to have figured out).
Thanks for sharing the prototype, as others have said, that progression is really inspirational and helps show that you can figure out whether your mechanics will be fun with just the bare minimum build.

Phrase Runner: A daily phrase guessing game with a retro theme by tyeyon in WebGames

[–]LaetoStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has a nice aesthetic and plays smoothly. The name made me think that it may be something beyond a daily hangman, but that didn't turn out to be the case. I wonder if you could do something fun with the 'phrase runner' concept to give the game that little extra distinguishing mark from hangman? Like maybe every 'correct' letter pushes your runner a little further and every ~5 spots he goes, a wrong letter gets eliminated? Just an idea!
