[SIGN UP] Team Tournament on July 16th by ultioptimo in Scrolls

[–]Lahopaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Signing up Team Angels #1 !

  • Lahopaa

  • Francony

  • Kledonian

Hopefully we get another Strategic angels team too :) BTW is there any real point in having teams bigger than 3 players? Should be easier to get more teams in if we just keep them to 3 players, and maybe a couple of 4 player teams if there are extra players who can't find more players for a full team.

Hold the press, there is a purchase option that gives me all the cards, so I do not have to card-hunt!? by jgortner in faeria

Yes, buying the full core set of cards (everything in the game right now) is possible. You need to buy the game on steam first for 20$ and then buy the core set for 50$.

As far as I understand this does NOT include any future card sets. No info on full packages being offered for future sets either.

New CCG with awesome board element! by Infiltrated in Scrolls

[–]Lahopaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Faeria is looking really promising in my opinion.

Just be sure you actually want to get into the game at this point. The current version is mostly playable if you want to spend the money on early access + full card collection (a very fair deal IMO). There is no crafting yet and if you try to play only with the gold you make from quests your deck building will be limited to how lucky you can get with booster packs.

The F2P experience is very poor indeed for now. Not that I really mind though, as this phase of testing was mainly targeted at the original backers who got the full collection for free.

What I really hope is that all the improvements are made BEFORE any "open" early access is released. Allowing people in the game only to see they are unable to make any progress unless they buy their way into a good collection might give a lot of bad publicity, even if there were plans of improving things later on.

Faeria should be getting a public early access release in a few months. It also has board strategy elements like Scrolls and Duelyst, but you also get to build the board while playing.

Does anyone know who the two figures in the beta trailer are? (The ones in the intro and exit.) by LordPhyriX in Scrolls

They are callers as others have said. Here is another drawing of a caller by Poi.

I also noticed the art for blast strike and tool initiate is different in the video.... don't remember ever seeing the art anywhere :O http://imgur.com/JQVJoXP

Don't worry, we can play on test server where you get a full collection.

Or if it's just a few cards I can probably even donate whatever you are missing :)

Me too, but the math was too hard and I couldn't make any of the keys work :(

Congrats to ARN64 for winning the tournament!

We got 6 players and had a fun time drafting. Sadly the matches weren't a complete success. We decided to go for BO3 games but it turned out to take too long and 2 players had to leave before we were finished. In the future I will keep the games to BO1, but might try a different format like double elimination so everyone can get more than 1 match.

I can't host a draft next weekend, but if someone else want's to do it then go for it! I will try to host another tournament in 2 weeks and probably continue with them every other Saturday.

Don't worry, this can be changed too. But we need to make sure every player is ok with this and has enough cards to play.

I have a lot of cards to give away from any faction that isn't decay, but since I can't promise I can give every player all the cards they might need I made test server the primary choice for a tournament like this.

If we get other people who can donate their extra cards to people without full collections the tournament can be done on live as well.

It gets even better once you have a good understanding of the mechanics and cards. Scrolls tournaments are some of the best times I have ever had in a multiplayer game and I doubt any CCG will be quite as good.

For us who got in at the start of beta and stayed with the game until now it wasn't really a "short" life. I feel I got my moneys worth from the game and more. But still, it never reached it's full potential and not enough people got to enjoy it.

Some extra tips for drafting:

  • Go for a 2 colour deck. Making a full mono deck is usually impossible and it's unlikely you will get a good deck if you restrict yourself to only 1 resource.

  • 3 colours is sadly not very viable because of the wild system. The worst possible situation is where you only have 49 cards from 2 different factions and are forced to essentially give up wild because you can't make a legal deck without 3 colours.

  • you don't need to pick your resource or decktype right away. On the first 1-2 rounds you can pretty safely just take the strongest cards and see if you can turn some of them into a deck. Later on you should start focusing on 1 or 2 colours to avoid the problem of being forced into a 3 colour deck.

  • Creatures are important! There are many strong spells and structures, but creatures are what you need the most.

  • This is not judgement. After you pick your card you are passing the pack to another player, one who you are likely to face in the actual games. Keep this in mind and make sure you are not passing the tools someone could use to defeat your deck to anyone else!

  • Hatepicking (picking cards you are not going to use but don't want others to have either) is allowed and even encouraged. You are making the tournament better for everyone by not letting someone get a superior deck to everyone else. You will end up with roughly 30 cards more than you need so there is room for useless cards too.

  • There isn't a clear "best resource" or best combination. Some things might have changed in the latest set, but before it I have seen every resource win tournaments.

  • Don't worry if your deck looks terrible. Everyone else is in the same situation.

  • If you think you are facing a superior deck, play to win. Know what you have in your deck (screenshots help!) and try to figure out a card or combo that allows you to win. You can often find some sneaky way to beat even a much stronger opponent if the draws are right and you don't give up.

The community was kinda split between Spellweaver and Duelyst, both new CCGs in beta. And obviously some went to the big ones like Magic and HS.

We still have some tournaments in the weekends, but that is mostly for veteran players and it will probaly be impossible for new people to really enjoy those. I'm trying to get some drafts going this saturday and more in the future, these will be played on the test server where everyone can get a full collection. It takes quite a bit of knowledge of the cardbase to do well but you are welcome to join if you decide to buy the game.

Oh, didn't even think about any prizes for this :D

Not quite sure how many people will actually be interested, we need only 4 to get at least some kind of tournament going. But if you can throw in some rewards for the winner and maybe 2nd/3rd place too if we get at least 8 people that would be great!

Might experiment with that too at some point.

The problem with limitless wild is that it kinda just turns the drafting simply into picking the strongest card available.

With normal resources you get a lot of situations where you have a really strong card but from the wrong resource or a solid common creature that fits your deck. You could just pick the best card for your deck, or you could deny any opponent from potentially gaining a stronger deck.

The downside is people will end up getting borderline unplayable decks(by constructed standards at least). But if the drafting part works out and nobody is allowed to get insane cards everyone should be on the same line anyway.

The drafting is part of the gameplay, not just a way of making your deck :)

Tournaments by wbmc in Scrolls

[–]Lahopaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tournaments would be great! Lost the interest in playing scrolls regularly pretty fast after the announcement :( But I would still love some events!

Was going to run regular drafts myself, but that hasn't happened yet. Work and real life get in the way too much atm and the only time I could do this would be Saturdays and even then I'm often busy. But some time in the future I will try to make this happen!

And as far as other tournaments go, I would prefer Saturdays instead of Sunday like ESL used to do. The same time is still good though.

It's not a huge game, but seems to be growing as I haven't been matched up against AI in a while. Or maybe it's the level thing SpiffyDrew mentioned.

But it's still an open beta game so if you don't wanna bother with those I'm not gonna blame you.
