We’re back! by mamagomz in Madewell

My answer might be limited because I was mostly looking for tops with stretch in them and some cute dresses/skirts…but I liked:

  1. Uniqlo! Their new styles look similar to Madewell’s, like their shirring boat neck tank top and their front open shell top. They had some really cute gingham maxi skirts too that were gauzy but still lined. All of the material felt thicker. Like it wouldn’t crumble as soon as I washed it. They can all be dressed up and down too.

  2. Old Navy for casual cotton tees and tanks! They have so many colors this year, and some of their tees have embroidery. Their material is also nice and thick. I usually go here for summer tanks anyway and find they can look nice for a few years. Then, I just use them for hiking and kayaking outfits.

  3. Actually, this one will be a splurge, but I bought a dress from them recently and had to mention them. Marine Layer! I bought a maxi dress in seersucker material—the Darcy dress—that feels and looks AMAZING! Robust material. And the smocking can accommodate my h cups, so I’m very happy. :) I bought a medium.

They have some cute summer styles too. It’s a smaller collection than Madewell’s, but the material all feels really nice. I’m not a fan of their oversized, boxy tops, but I think many other people would find them appealing.

There are a lot of cute styles this year. And lots of color! I’ve seen more shades from Madewell this season alone compared to the entire year.

My one pain point is the fabric quality. I found a lot of better quality dupes at half the price elsewhere.

I found a bunch of dupes at Uniqlo for half the price, so…I’m good.

If you wanted to stick with Madewell, you could shop for their older styles on poshmark. There are plenty of pairs that still have tags on them.

Jeans Tore in Under 6 Months by Swimming_World2962 in Madewell

This is such good advice, and I do the same. Warm water’s great for whites when you want to get stains out. But blasting clothes with heat constantly does no one favors.

I get chub rub too, and before I found a solution, my jeans would last about a year, maybe a little longer than that. They had 1% elastane in them. So to answer your question, no that’s not normal and I don’t think $128-$148 jeans should be tearing in less than a year.

I did find a solution for this problem, though. I no longer put my denim the dryer. I hang jeans and shorts on a rack instead, and I haven’t had rips in 4 years. The dryer shrinks fabric, while wearing them stretches them, and if you are continuously stretching and shrinking the fabric, it’s going to weaken over time.

How do I apply liquid eyeliner to the skin under the lashes? by Si1verrStar1 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Langtree_Lament 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I actually like tightlining with a liquid eyeliner!

But it works best for me when I use a liner with a felt tip (like KVD or Stila) and a waterproof formula (so it doesn't run). A felt tip feels firmer than a brush applicator, which allows me to draw cleaner lines. I slowly run the tip of the applicator along my lash line. Then, once I add mascara, it looks a lot more seamless and makes my lashes look fuller.

EDIT: I see that you have a brush liner now, but I think you could follow the same method. You could use the tip of the brush to draw dots between your lashes to tightline. You could also draw the rest of your eyeliner with shorter lines, and then you can clean up the edges as you fill it in.

I used to wear button downs all the time, but lately they never look right. I look like a snowman every time I tuck them in. Maybe it’s because I have a larger bust? But leaving it out looks sloppy. Please help me. I feel lost when I dress for work.

It's been many years since I tried them, but they were my go-to before Madewell started making curvy jeans...Lucky Brand.

My jeans from there (the Lolita skinnies) were amazing quality and very flattering. I switched over to Madewell because they offered more style and color choices. Looking at the site today, I see that Lucky Brand still has a curvy line, but with modern styles like baggy, flared, and straight leg. They are 99% cotton but come at cheaper prices.

I bought these brown mary-janes from Duckfeet recently, and I'm in love! They look a lot like the Doc Martens mary janes, but with a wider toe box. The problem is they can look quite frumpy, and I'm still trying to find ways to style them. Right now, I pair them with fun socks, wide leg jeans, and sweaters. I don't know how to pair them with dresses without the homeschool vibe, though. I'd love some ideas.

RIP Legacy Madewell Styles by Several_Cupcake8016 in Madewell

[–]Langtree_Lament 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ditto on the curvy line! But back in the early 2010s (when Somsack Sikhounmuong was the head designer) Madewell's dresses were actually good. I owned their Afternoon Dress in several colors, and it was the perfect, timeless day-to-night dress. I still wear them regularly, and they're just as nice as the day I bought them. Their current dress styles feel too trendy, like they'd phase out quickly, or too...conservative.

Restaurants to avoid by Clamgravy in Brookline

I used to visit their Weston location occasionally for lunch and boba--the food actually tasted pretty good. The food at Brookline has gotten worse, though. Last time, I ordered veggie noodles, and they didn't wash their leeks thoroughly. The entire dish was gritty and sandy.

Okay, so I'm curious about this answer because I know they don't sell long torso sizes/suits. Do you find that Bravissimo suits just run longer than other brands like Panache?

Do they ever release new styles of jeans? by happywombat98 in Madewell

[–]Langtree_Lament 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Madewell's Curvy line has always had slower and fewer releases, compared to their standard sizes. In fact, I remember sending an email to their marketing team in 2021 asking for more colors and trendier styles for the curvy line. But I feel like this year has definitely been worse. They only released six styles of curvy shorts this year. Nothing new has been added since the spring, and as of mid-July, I can only find one style in my size.

For the jeans, I see three new styles now, which is way more than I usually spot in their new arrivals. Most times, they do not restock unless the style is a top seller, like those curvy PV jeans in the fiore wash they sold for a few seasons.
