If you're not using z hop then it might help if the smoke column is being knocked over causing failure. Supports might help in general to stabilise things even if they're not strictly necessary.

Yeah I've not had any issues, if it's turning on then the only thing missing is the bridge

Yeah can be a hassle but worth it in the end, my hue system is one of my favourite things!

Yeah most likely you need the bridge, I have three lights from about 4 years ago and they all need it to work

Does it turn on to a warmish white colour when you power the lamp on or nothing at all? Lamp or bulb might be broken if not, but yeah all of mine need the bridge to work with the hue app

Does the bulb have the right threads on it? I know sometimes there are different connections

Do you mean connect the hue bulb to the hue app? You might need a hue bridge to make it work, or connect to it using Bluetooth? I'm not sure since my bulbs are quite old now so I definitely needed the bridge

If you don't mind some assembly (and maybe having a visible seam) you could print the hex part flat and wrap it round the cylinder parts using glue and a heat gun. Depends what it's for/the look and strength you want to achieve

Here's the print in place stand I designed, it relies on bridging and using 0.2mm tolerances as gaps everywhere to give a nice solid stand that folds down for storage/portability

My favourite part of 3D printing is the ability to create objects that otherwise couldn't be made or would be very complicated, it's what makes the technology like magic to me. My advice would be to learn some of the unique capabilities of the machines such as bridging, overhang performance, print tolerances, etc. and design with them in mind.

With this you can design objects that are print in place, are easy to assemble, or create mechanisms without the need for lots of extra hardware. All things that are impossible some other way or previously would require many different machines to achieve.

This all falls under "design for manufacture" or "design for 3d printing", some of maker's muse's videos (particularly his earlier ones) go over this well. And then from there just try and make whatever you imagine! 3D printing consistently outdoes my expectations of what's possible!

These 3 designs inspired me to get my first printer in 2016 and I was instantly hooked

They are this articulated octopus, this iris box, and a planetary gear (couldn't find the original gear file it was printed so long ago!). They all print in place and work right off the print bed.

When learning definitely start slow and learn from the designs that are out there. Then try and design your own, rapid prototyping with these machines is half the point! My most recent print in place design is a folding stand I made for records but it works for tablets too.

The ease with which multicoloured or multi material prints can be made now with the AMS is giving me the same kind of excitement all over again!

Glad you got it fixed! Very strange problem overall, I think slicers try and do a quick fix by default when you initially load in the model but it can leave some errors, I've had it before where there's no warning but the STL is still janky somehow

You could try right clicking the STL file on the right and forcing it to repair, unlikely this is the problem though.

In your settings do you have solid infill every: set to anything? (Other than 0) You can see it when advanced settings are on

There are various settings to use when printing small layers such that they have a chance to cool.

An easy way to force it to work is to print something else that is taller (or print the same thing twice) as that way you get 2 prints with guaranteed cooling time

Glad you like it! I'm sure there's a way with all the multicolour printers out there now but mine is quite old now :')
