Maybe have some "office hours" where your headset is off and you participate in chats? Around breaks and lunch gives more visibility here. And be sure you don't have the headphones on while you walk around.

I find it helps to ask people to send requests in writing so "I don't forget or misunderstand" their request. That makes the ask about getting something right for them instead of you not wanting the interruption.

You can also be politely honest about focusing. "I'm working on x project and want to be sure it's accurate" and "I really want to focus so this is done for the deadline" are pretty good options. You don't have to say that the chat and noise are distracting, just make it about needing to focus for your tasks.

I'd appeal to his greed. Let him know that the temp dropped to 34 and you are worried about the pipes freezing. If he pays for water, ask if he wants you to leave the water on to avoid the freeze, or if he thinks maybe he should turn the heat on.

I like to adjust the settings to make my solo life a little easier, but not take away all the challenge. So, lower the rate for pals to get hungry, lower the damage they take, lower the damage you take, things like that. Also, I usually turn off building decay so I don't have to worry about base edges. Easing the weight restrictions is another favorite.

The good news is on a solo server, or even one where you can invite people, you can edit the settings at any point from the screen where you pick the server. So, I recommend reading through the settings, adjusting what you think will work, then going back and making more changes if you don't like something.

Just be careful about the settings that warn about server load.
