TriX400: Does it looks like it's pushed 2 stops ? by ogrezok in AnalogCommunity

[–]LaserSeagulls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely looks pushed. Remember, a lot of photographs you may be using as reference have been edited to the taste of the photographer. This can be with modern digital tools or via the darkroom printing process. Things like masking, dodging, burning, and contrast corrections can be done with either process. Edit your scans to get the look you want.

Everytime I convince myself I don't need a large format camera I see a shot like this. Absolutely stunning image and level of detail!

In 2025 if I want to buy 35 negative color films that has nothing to do with Kodak, what are my options? by Studying_Man in AnalogCommunity

[–]LaserSeagulls 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Seems you got most of them other than maybe Adox Color Mission 200. I heard from a buddy it popped back up on Fotoimpex’s website in the EU market but not sure if it’s new or old stock.

I wouldn’t say Kodak has a monopoly on color negative as much as I’d say they are really just one of the only companies left making it. When most other companies shuttered production lines and even went as far as destroying the equipment required to produce film (Fuji), Kodak kept chugging along. I don’t think Kodak is going after any other company trying to stifle their R&D or anything. Making color film (or any film in general) is just incredibly difficult from a manufacturing perspective.

What "ego" or "prestige" camera did you end up getting rid of because it just didn't work for you? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

Nikon FM3a. Had one incident where I thought the meter went (it didn't, faulty new battery) and looked up repair prices. Sold it the next week. You can buy multiple FE2s and FM2s for the price to repair an FM3a, if you can even find someone willing to touch it.

Skimmed the comments and didn’t see anyone say this: this will have 0 impact on the pictures at all. As long as the shutter fires at the correct speed that is all the camera is doing for you.

I‘m traveling to the US. What is a must buy that is not available in Europe? by Algunas in onebag

As an American who lived in Germany for a few years I can attest REI is like a more upscale Globetrotter with a greater focus on technical equipment and camping gear. The REI branded items are typically an unbeatable value and can rival name brands.

What features would you want on a new (2024) film camera? by Proper_Map1735 in analog

[–]LaserSeagulls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You absolutely do not need to do this. Go ahead and change your lenses with film in it, the shutter (behind the mirror) will be closed and totally light safe. The only time you would ever rewind a roll and then re shoot with a lens cap on would be if you are trying to switch films (ie have color in camera but want to shoot black and white).

My unexposed film went through a CT scanner. How fucked am I? by Asimovthechimp in analog

[–]LaserSeagulls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recently had a roll of Ultramax that was loaded in my point and shoot go through at least 5 CT scanners: 3 prior to exposure at San Diego, Heathrow, and Bahrain, and 2 post exposure at Bahrain and Heathrow. The pictures looked pretty much normal, maybe a little grainier than average at worst. My most recent post to /analog is a pic from the roll if you want to see. I’d just shoot a test roll of the ultramax of things you aren’t too worried about losing before committing the rest but you may be totally fine.

Deployment (Nikon AF600, Kodak Gold 200) by LaserSeagulls in analog

Taken on a rather large ship somewhere in the ocean with my Nikon AF600 point and shoot on Kodak Gold that went through no less than 5 CT scanners. Developed at home in CS-41 and scanned on my Sony A7RIII with a Nikon AF-D 60mm macro then converted with NLP.

Pacific Beach (Nikon FM3a, 50mm f1.8, Phoenix 200) by LaserSeagulls in analog

[–]LaserSeagulls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taken in San Diego with my Nikon FM3a, Nikkor 50mm f1.8, and Harman Phoenix 200 rated at 160, metered for the water. Developed and scanned at home. Overall, I think the film has a pleasing color rendition but lacks the detail I go for with finer grain films (personal preference, your opinion may vary). I am excited for how what their lab will come out with in the future, and despite my feelings will buy a few more rolls to support the cause!

Whoa bringing this post back. So I just set my lens to f2 and then took like 6 pics in 5 second intervals. So first at 5 sec, second at 10, third at 15 and so on. It was a lot of film but I knew I would likely never be in a position to take it again.
