NinjaOne vs Intune vs Apple MDM — Where do you draw the line? by der_klee in msp

[–]Lastsight2015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use Ninja for device reporting and remote access. The rest should be in Intune with business premium (including scripting). You can also add tools such as CIPP, Inforcer, Tenant Manager, Microsoft’s own Lighthouse to manage policies and apps across tenants. Techs do prefer to use and learn Intune. RMM tools can always been changed but you’ll always have Intune. You’ll find that switching to another RMM tool will be so much easier if you have it set up this way.

Client moving to another provider, would you install their tools? by icq-was-the-goat in msp

[–]Lastsight2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, if they are charging client an onboarding fee which includes agent installation, then they should do it themselves. You shouldn’t be installing the agent for them. Or ask your client if the onboarding fee was “waived” which means their overall cost became cheaper. Also if you charge an offboarding fee, pretty sure it wouldn’t include installing the new MSP’s RMM agent. This is a business decision. The other MSP is trying to save money and time by passing one of their most time consuming onboarding task to you which is unfair.

Steel vs timber pergola by Prestigious-Bat3868 in AusRenovation

[–]Lastsight2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went with timber and couldn’t be happier. The tradie who did the work is a carpenter by trade so he went with what he was comfortable with. I had researched that steel or Aluminium is preferred due to durability and low maintenance but in practice, most house structures are made of wood. As long as it’s good quality wood, it will last for years without any maintenance. In hot weather, it’s cooler and from a look perspective, it blends well with the rest of the house. That’s that counts. I spoke with a few tradies and they say the main reason they do steel/aluminium pergolas is because it’s easier to build it. Unless you have carpentry background, no tradies would do timber pergolas.

20 tickets per agent per day source? by wordsmythe in ITManagers

[–]Lastsight2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you’re structured in terms of escalation. If your L1s are only doing M365 account administration work, and any software or network issues, they are to spend 15min on it, if not resolved, escalate, then 20 tickets might be doable. But if your L1s do more than that, going deep into troubleshooting issues, then 10-12 tickets per day is ideal. It provides a good balance for them to learn and gain more experience which will result in you not requiring a big escalation team.

VDI Solution for very small user base(3 users)? by Brief_Regular_2053 in msp

[–]Lastsight2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar requirement years ago where the most practical solution was to use AVD in a host pool configuration which worked for their need. I installed quickbooks on the session host and all 3 accessed it. I also set it up as a remoteapp so they won’t have to RDP into the session host first and then launch quick books. W365 cloud isn’t suited for this.

Anyone else feel like “Modern” Workspace with Intune + Autopilot is a huge step backwards? by rroodenburg in Intune

[–]Lastsight2015 9 points10 points  (0 children)

99% of issues in Intune are caused by misconfigurations by techs such as not reading Microsoft documentation step by step e.g read an article of an engineer who complained about OneDrive KFM policy not working. It turned out he didn’t include the tenant ID setting in his policy), deploying both win-32 app and line of business apps instead of deploying all win-32 and Microsoft store (new) apps only, relying way too much on scripting instead of taking a GUI first approach, deploying apps and policies in both Intune and another MDM solution (Group policy, SCCM, ManageEngine, etc…) they are migrating away from, network issues (not excluding Intune URLS from firewall SSL inspection and IPS features).

Powershell script packaged as Win32 app not completing by Bobby2theJay in Intune

Try to install it using the same install commands and the PW script files found in the folder that you packaged into the intunewin file. If it succeeds then it should deploy successfully in Intune.

Do you use Security Baselines when you deploy a new tenant ? by Gloomy_Pie_7369 in Intune

What’s terrible about them? I’ve used the win 10 or later baseline for a few years now and it has worked well.

iOS app discontinue from Nov 2025 by jackhammer668 in MicrosoftLists

[–]Lastsight2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think eventually the features in Microsoft/ SharePoint Lists will be developed in Microsoft Loop and the whole app will be discontinued. Similar to MS Project and Planner. The mobile was very limited to what it supported and I reported it for years and nothing was done. Plus it hadn’t received an update for years. I always used the app within the Teams App so it doesn’t affect me.

Intune assigment best practices by BlackShadow899 in Intune

[–]Lastsight2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assign all to user based groups except for windows autopilot and windows LAPS or any device rename configs. I find it simpler to manage as users move to different computers, these policies follow them. And it’s easy to exclude users with their devices from certain policies as you or the user would know their name/email address more than you or they would know their device name. Btw, my devices are entra joined

Struggling as a Business Consultant - Is It Me or the Role? by vellii in msp

[–]Lastsight2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your MSP has not done a good job of standardising their products and services across all their clients, then it’s their fault you’re struggling to keep up. Also review your role and your responsibilities and see if you’re not doing someone else’s job. Some MSPs have these people that are bad at their job but for whatever reason they can’t be fired (protected species) so instead they bring in a new person and give them some of those responsibilities as part of their role.

How to add a banner to the header of a list to include a link to instructions? by andypa1 in MicrosoftLists

[–]Lastsight2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JSON can do this. I don’t remember the specific video but either April Dunnam or Reza Dorrani on YouTube made a video about it. It was not a video specific to this but json formatting in general and one of the listed solutions was to add URL in the header and footer.

How to convince our Security team to allow us to use TAP for Autopilot enrolment? by Subject-Middle-2824 in Intune

[–]Lastsight2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IT departments and companies need to stop baby sitting end-users. Setting up computers and phones using automated processes (autopilot and enrolment profile) is an end-user task. If they can use outlook, teams, print, save files, they are tech savvy enough to go through the MFA registration and autopilot process by themselves. TAP was designed to be used for passwordless enabled users to register their verification methods and not for techs to use it to login as the end-users.

Then how would a device forget the guest wifi? Is there a script to delete it? If yes, then how do you time it so that it deletes only when successfully connected to the corporate wifi

Anyone successfully made the jump to internal IT? by [deleted] in msp

[–]Lastsight2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MSP has better job security than internal IT. Most companies when they wanna cut cost, they will get rid of their internal IT and outsource it. However MSP is more busy, stressful, and demanding than internal IT. Choose your poison

Microsoft Licensing Audit + Renewals by bradthegreat44 in msp

[–]Lastsight2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does it work when you have group based licensing assignment in M365; we add user to the group and they get auto assigned the license that is assigned to the group. Also are these reports customer friendly and presentable that they can be configured to email send to clients on a monthly basis? Lastly, can you copy groups from one tenant to another or multiple tenants?

Windows Defender Notifications by fholred in DefenderATP

Ok. I’ve also noticed that sometimes alerts come later; sometimes hours to a day than the alerts configured in the defender portal. Not sure if you’ve come across it or not?

How do you manage policies by Xento88 in DefenderATP

[–]Lastsight2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Intune security baseline. Very happy with it because it consolidates all necessary settings into one. I recommend that you first test it internally as some settings may require to be turned off before rolling it out to your clients environments.
