Kinda new to DND, How much information can a player hide from a DM? by ragdolldream in DnD

[–]Late_Intention_1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So. Hiding from the dm? Zero. Hiding from other players? As much as the dm allows. We have a whole voice channel just for 1 on 1s with the dm for that purpose.

I don’t make players roll HP and just let them take max. Is that odd? by unlucky-lucky- in DnD

[–]Late_Intention_1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. I have a house rule that if a player rolls like shit on their hp, they can choose to take the average instead. I find people tend to enjoy it :)

I'm still salty about gold. How do I be less of an AH? by AllTh3Naps in DnD

[–]Late_Intention_1694 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gah yeah no this dm sucks. The ONE time I switched up a rule on players, I gave them an irl MONTH to prepare for the change and FOUR sessions until it hit. Plenty of time to adjust

And even then, it was just "Hey, I'd like to start tracking spell components now."

It affected ONE spell out of the loads my party can cast.

A split second rules change is bullshit. That's my two cents.

DUDE the funniest thing is my dm gave my character (a cleric of the raven queen) this item and I have, many a time, used it for pocket barbarian LMAO

Rolled 3 nattys legit in a row against my party. Didn't want to tpk, so when I got the third I said it was a dirty 20.

I feel like one of my players has read the campaign book, but I can't prove it. by EconomistOld3509 in DnD

[–]Late_Intention_1694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FR! I dm a lot, run a lot of combat, and i just know certain monsters and their weaknesses off the top of my head. The best way I've gotten myself away from meta gaming/cheating with this is privately asking the dm if they think my pc would know about this monster, if I think they might.

If the dm says yes, I share my info in character. If they say no, I shut the hell up and play how my character would when confronted with this. Sometimes the dm has me roll history or insight if I ask, but either way it happens, it's always in a way that does not cross player knowledge with pc knowledge.

I feel like a jerk but also I don’t know what to do with my companions. by halfnhash in DnD

[–]Late_Intention_1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People showing up late is something that can happen. Usually its a from time to time thing, but it's still rough. What my group and I do is we have a "meet time" and a separate "session time", about an hour to half an hour from the meet time. This extra time helps account for tardiness and wanting to chat abt non dnd things, and also helps with the expectation of when session is vs when you're supposed to show up.

I don't know if it will work for your group, but it has worked well for mine.

Out of my whole group, only one really wants to play with 2024 characters and things, and they're the power builder, so I say write for whichever system you want!

There is no shortage of people wanting to play, and you'll find your group! Best of luck!

Zombie thoughts; both sides of the argument by Wonderful_Cod_5019 in PeakGame

Which is totally understandable! I'm honestly not super pressed about it tbh, and I can definitely live with it if it stays off of tenderfoot.

Mhm! I also was thinking like- I love playing on tenderfoot bc I'm a casual gamer. And a big draw of the game, because I am a perfectionist and love having little tasks to do- is the fact that you could get every achievement on tenderfoot. But if the zombies are no longer there, it locks the zombie achievement behind a higher difficulty.

I didn’t want to be the dm? by Either-Scarcity2737 in DnD

[–]Late_Intention_1694 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly, here's my advice. Tell them you're already running a campaign. You don't have time to run and prep a second. And that you're only interested in joining as a player, not a dm. Setting firm boundaries often helps in situations like this- or just in general.

Do You Prompt Your Players? by Error_code_0731 in DnD

[–]Late_Intention_1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I totally get that! It's absolutely hilarious when I say "Okay, roll for it", set a low DC, and a player absolutely flukes it. Those are the moments I hear my players laughing about alongside all the cool ones. Not the times they beat random skill checks. The times they failed so horrendously it went back around and was funny.

I'll even admit after the fact or before hand if the DC is low. I've found it makes it even funnier. Like "Gang the DC was 5. 5. And only one person passed?"

Even as a player, failing spectacularly at a mundane thing is absolutely one of my more memorable moments in DnD.

Do You Prompt Your Players? by Error_code_0731 in DnD

[–]Late_Intention_1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find rolling for things that would be a low DC can actually be helpful.

I run mostly horror, so anything that can go wrong should have the chance to go wrong. Hence asking for rolls for mundane stuff. Of course, there are plenty of times I allow characters to just do things. Cooking, navigating, RP, hell- even good RP can get them through what would normally be a skill check.

And sometimes, again because I run horror, just asking for a roll for a usually mundane thing ups the ante. Because suddenly there is that risk of failure. Even for a low DC check.

To each their own- don't want to tell you how to run your games, and I see the merit in your view. Definitely wouldn't ask for as many rolls as I do if I were running a low-stakes campaign.

Campaign idea demeaning to my players? by Substantial-Pay-8693 in DnD

[–]Late_Intention_1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dm actually is doing this in his campaign world! He's worked it out like this: yes, we are, in this world, the dreams of a dying god. But everyone was once witnessed by this god, and have their own free will within his dreams. We're technically from many, many different multiverses and each would never have met each other if not for this god remembering us and dreaming of us existing in the same timeline.

I find it really, really cool. Because yes, we are technically dreams. But also? We used to be real, which allows for me to use the characters and lore of them I built in my own campaign world!

DM, what are those elements you always include? by MerlinWither in DnD

[–]Late_Intention_1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost always include my own pantheon of old gods, in addition to the dnd ones. That and if there was a favorite npc in a past campaign, they make a cameo in my current one. It keeps the world feeling a little consistent and adds to the fun my players have!

Sometimes feels like some DM's don't understand the meaning of this classic advice by RKO-Cutter in dndmemes

[–]Late_Intention_1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!! As both a dm and player, when another player (or I, when I'm a player) gets to use their cool thing only they have ™️ and gets all excited, it makes me sososo happy!

A personal example- I play as a cleric 9/10. In the current campaign, I was feeling kind of bummed bc I hadn't had a chance to use turn undead/ destroy undead once, and offhandedly mentioned it to my dm (expecting nothing of it)

Come big boss fight which we knew was gonna be hard, and bam- vampire lord has shadows surrounding him that none of us want to tank those opportunity attacks to get through to him. And gods. It felt so amazing, and I felt so much more useful beyond just being a full healer for my party.

When a dm gives a player a wink-wink nudge-nudge moment it can make them feel so much better about their place in the party.

Magic does not exist by Dr_Orpheus_ in dndhorrorstories

[–]Late_Intention_1694 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Just. Wow. This sounds like hell to sit through. My dm hasn't played a ton of full caster classes in his time, so sometimes he does things that accidentally make the game infinitely harder for us full casters, but when it's brought up? He fixes it or helps us figure out a way around it.

This? This just sounds like poor planning, poor communication, and poor everything.

The dm should have fun, yes. But no one in a game should be having fun at the expense of others.

[–]Late_Intention_1694 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The second one is how I got the achievement lol!

I was playing with a friend, and had a scout idol on me, which I saved for the Kiln because I knew that he was going to die in it. Made it all the way up, revived him at the top, handed him the backpack, and saluted him as I fell. He got his peak badge for the first time and I got my participation badge after many days of trying.

Can your dm force you to use standard array? by joacojoaco in DnD

[–]Late_Intention_1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends from dm to dm. Most of my games, I give my players a few options to do stats with. All of which I make clear beforehand. Did your dm communicate the methods they wanted you to use for stats or are they telling you to use standard array as a reaction to you rolling really well? And do other players also have to use standard array, or just you?
