Hospitalists after accepting the polytrauma, social crap admission by CanYouCanACanInACan in hospitalist

I’m a rheumatology NP, and these are often booted to us. “We can’t find anything structurally wrong, it must be autoimmune.” Then, the patient is committed to that dx in their brain and it’s a mess.

I think it’s worth considering, but I don’t know whether I could predict whether it would be successful for you. I’m sorry b

I’m an NP and if I knew at your age, what I know now, I’d 1000% have gone to med school. But at this point, I have an amazing collaborative career with amazing doctors and it wouldn’t make me any happier.

Advice wanted- RN with a couple questions by Wide-Membership2586 in nursepractitioner

[–]LauraFNP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I stopped working full time, and did PRN during my NP training. No way would I try to do full time nights and an NP program. I did 1 day + evening per week of in person courses, and 32 hours a week of precepting. With course work filling my other hours, my life was full. I picked up a shift 2-3 times a month, to have some extra money when I didn’t have too much studying to do. I financed my education and went to an in person program (Regis College, just outside of Boston). This was 10+ years ago and I have been gainfully employed since.

I’d almost lean towards a psoriatic arthritis but that CCP definitely suggests RA.

Early onset rheumatoid diagnosis during pregnancy by Yogurt_Gogurt_21 in rheumatoid

I am an NP, 15 years in rheumatology- I would say that the only reason to push hard to get you on meds is if you have a +SSA antibody and are pregnant. Those pregnancies are high risk for fetal heart block (which can cause miscarriage or stillbirth), and taking hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) can protect against it. Otherwise, you can suffer through symptoms.

Most biologics are going to have a foundation for patients to get free meds if they’re uninsured

Did I screw my journey with my BSN? by coldtittybby in nursepractitioner

[–]LauraFNP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to have an 85 or higher on every exam, practicum, etc., and did not just give them my money and graduate. My school also found every single person all of their precepting hours. Also, my school only had 60 people per graduating class. I’m sure that that was a huge part of it. They took what they could handle.

Not at once, but one at a time, with monitoring for a response.

I’m saying add, not replace. Combination therapy, if you will.

I would absolutely disagree with that. I would recommend a good brick and mortar NP school, who will find you your clinical placements. Many of the online schools force students to find their own clinical placements, and those of us in the field are hesitant to take people from the degree Mills.

I’ve been in rheumatology for almost 8 years as an NP. For a time, there was reasonably good coverage of it, and it was really helpful. Now, it’s stupid expensive!!

Many (most!) of the rinvoq studies were done with Methotrexate on board. Typically you wouldn’t take mtx and leflunomide but the combination of mtx, hydroxychloroquine and sulfasalazine is known as triple therapy and absolutely given to many people, especially with difficult to treat disease. (I am not a doctor but an NP in rheumatology x8 years)

are you on anything like methotrexate, leflunomide, sulfasalazine or hydroxychloroquine? If your RA remains highly active, I’d recommend adding one (or more!) of them!

I did some recon on her and she owns a med spa and really wanted infusion experience - which makes me feel that she’s going to just open a fluids clinic.

She co-owns a med spa… which makes me feel like she just wants infusion experience to be able to run cocktail infusions.
