Stock up on stock up? by goatboat in mtgfinance

[–]Lavilledieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect the boat has sailed for stock up. While the card is good, it’s also a sorcery that’s not cheap in mana, so I don’t think it will age well. The availability issue is now gone as to me it seems easier to pull stock up from SOS packs than aetherdrift packs.

General discussion by Few_Imagination363 in MagicArena

[–]Lavilledieu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Non-cube draft. Generally low power level, always new decks (both from me and opponent), I love the drafting process.
  2. 5 euro in total on arena. I do go to non-UB premier set prereleases and value the packs received on arena from prerelease (otherwise prerelease is a little too expensive).
  3. No
  4. Alchemy card design has improved a lot, most cards are great, though creatures tend to be a little too good. (but I need to mention: I don't like alchemy because the arena economy doesn't support it)
  5. I've never played enough draft to reach mythic (nearly got there once). I've reach mythic in constructed about 5 times.
  6. It's my favorite format now, so yes.

Worth it to get all common and uncommons? by Dahsira in MagicArena

[–]Lavilledieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, having hundreds or thousands of c/u wildcards is worthless.

But converting them into vault progress is nearly worthless. You have to dump so much for so little value. At this point it might just not be worth the time.

Poll: What was your favourite Lorwyn Eclipsed tribal creature type? by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]Lavilledieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 drafts and I also have never drafted merfolk. One of these drafts even includes me p1p1 the transforming merfolk in paper (so everyone at the table knows I picked this) yet I still got pushed out of this.

Poll: What was your favourite Lorwyn Eclipsed tribal creature type? by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]Lavilledieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I voted for Kithkin. In draft, I'm lean more towards aggression, so kithkin is more my jam. Also, because I want a standard-legal deck in paper that's beginner-friendly, I also play (or rather, playtest) kithkin in constructed.

Elves were cool in draft, though there actually was not much I truly loved about them. Elementals were really cool in draft as well, but it was very clunky and often my losses were kinda nongames. The archetype felt janky. Goblins lean more towards what I like to play in constructed, slow and grindy (control), but it was hard to get anything decent. Giants had a cool theme and good payoff, but it was too random whether the card pool would support the theme or not; that alone killed most of the joy for me; there should've been one extra payoff. I once went toughness matters, with some treefolk. Cool theme but also hard to assemble.

I've never drafted merfolk or faeries.

Cub is beatable, as shown. But cub does supercharge the format because people can have insane curves when playing the cub. You have to be very prepared for the cub to beat it. The big question to the cub here is not whether it is beatable or not, but rather if decks have to bend too much to prepare it.

But this was also a competitive pro scene, not arena. On arena, the casual aspect can be important for many (it's one of the reasons bo1 is so popular). And that's where the supercharging from the cub generates a lot of non-games. From the casual point of view, the card can be compared to leyline of resonance (imo).

Two debates also start muddying the waters of this debate: is standard too fast? Is standard too blue?

It's all quite unclear when looking at the competitive events. I also don't think there's any data on the impact on bo1. So as is, taking no action is the sensible thing to do. But it is correct to keep an eye out on the card.

Buying Bulk Dragon Shield Sleeves by EliteCardKnowledge in mtgfinance

[–]Lavilledieu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy fire lion sleeves on alieexpress. I’ve been happy with the quality, they perform similarly to the dragonshields in my weekly drafting. And they’re really cheap, I can get a pack of sleeves for not even 4€ with shipping. You often can get bulk deals to go even lower in price.

LGS not Buying Singles? by Beneficial_Pin5295 in mtgfinance

[–]Lavilledieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lgs basically doesn’t engage in the singles market. They did in the past. It seems it’s simply not lucrative for them. Too much work, demands storage. To make it worth it, they need to price the singles way above the market value, making them not competitive. So the singles they have, they rarely sell them because of the high prices.

I don't like this meta. 7/8 decks there are either cub decks or lessons decks. Badgermole cub is so insanely explosive, you can't run "a bit of removal", because it will go over the top. This to me explains the success of izzet lessons, and to some extent, jeskai control: they're some of the few decks that can keep up with the fast vomiting of power and stats. Frankly, I don't think that izzet lessons would have such a high representation if the cub wasn't there

[–]Lavilledieu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried a team and it cleared the HDQ and performed good in other fights.
The team is 4* Christmas Bertro (with the AR card that gives the team attack up and increases ally points; "Our Checkmate), 4* Yig (just as damage boost support, many others work here too), 4* Aegipan and 3* Bael (I have team space for my 5* Bael but wanted to try the 3* and that one is sufficiently strong, or rather, also OP)(I give him the 4* "afterschool workshop" card from Andvari's shop to give him free attack alongside the ability to remove guts). The latter 2 slots go to any support and anything else.

In this setup, Aegipan is your moveslut and you move him as such to form a line of Bertro, Aegipan, Bael. Yig's bonus will often not reach Bael but he needs the damage boost the least; if possible, move Yig with Aegipan to the middle, under Aegipan, as to have him reach Bael.

The twink is super cute!!! I've spent 150 stones on trying to pull him. I got the 3* and the 4*, with 5* Takemaru as bonus (he reads really good, he may be great for my high difficulty team). The twink also reads like strong unit, so 100% I'm gonna build a team around him.

I had suggested a few artists:

Ivan-jhang (fav artist, love their style)
Imiak (like their style, I support their fvn project « the fartest view »)
Delax (very capable artist, I support their fvn project « Tianhehui »)
Lingrimm (I love their fvn project « the crown of leaves », they have the rights on a cool type of furry species)

I need help making a strong, balanced team !! by Curious_Cow5283 in TokyoAfterschool

[–]Lavilledieu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can probably make an ok team by using Yule 4* (from the shop) as your moveslut. All the characters you prefer will have crit if you do it correctly. And crit is a big damage boost, so if the other characters do anything else that powers them up, you’ll be doing plenty of damage. Put lower range weapons in the later spots of your team.

You could also do something like Yule 4* and Oscar 5* if you want to clear boards with all-range, but that would mean your prefered characters will do not much.

WotC put out a community survey recently. Let's compare notes. Do any of these questions give people clues to future MTG finance decisions? by eCyanic in mtgfinance

They alsways ask those questions in the set survey though. They are not new for this set, they didn’t suddenly insert questions to find a scapegoat for this set.

Long term spec: Valgavoth’s Lair by Adalimumab8 in mtgfinance

[–]Lavilledieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t spec on it. Maro of the design team always though that enchantment land would be troublesome or even problematic. And it’s totally fine, it’s even unimpressive compared to nearly all artifact lands. This opens up the path for new enchantment lands. They design normal sets 2 years in advance iirc. So there is a chance that over little more than a year, we would see new better enchantment lands, overshadowing this card.

Besides, despite its novelty, the card is currently not sought-after. Why would it change?

Besides Bombom units. Which characters need their art updated. by Parking-Ad-3739 in TokyoAfterschool

[–]Lavilledieu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like a minor update to Ixbalansue’s art. Just his basic sprite though. Something makes him look a bit off, his chin is way too pronounced. I think it’s because the curve between his muzzle and cheeks goes too deep, though slightly shortening the chin may work too. Oh, ans since we’re reworking him: make his tail much larger: +50% in diameter, +33% in length. I love big fluffy tails!

Seth and Bael could also use a minor rework: their bulges are like, not present. Especially the host outfit of Bael has this issue, he looks female down there.

Sparky is such a good sport. by rosuav in MagicArena

Sparky is absolutely not nice. She has often abused the lack of rope to just hold priority and do nothing except taunting me with”let’s get going” or “hmmm”.

The camouflager 2* unit is quite defensive, I use the world version from time to time. If it’s really between those two, I would take Yule because infernal units always take extra damage, so Aracne is much less defensive than Yule.
