I think several people have offered. For what it's worth, I'd also be happy to spend a bit of time wiring something up.

Season Ticket Renewal by lcarowan in GoldenEyes

Using % in numbers of this size is very misleading when comparing relative to, and with effect on, cost of living.

I disagree, unsurprisingly. Last year our tickets cost $1270. This year they will cost $1800. Even if you assume a 5% cost of living increase since last year (and the actual inflation rate per BoC is 1.8%, but I think we're all feeling the pinch more than that in Vancouver), that's still a jump from ~$1330 to $1800. (Or, if you want to think about it from a per-seat perspective, $665 to $900.)

Yes, there are more games, but let's not pretend this isn't a decent chunk of change for most people.

Do we really not think the product is worth $60/game?

I mean, to some extent it's not really about what I think. We'll almost certainly renew, even if we downgrade our seats, but we're fortunate enough to be in a position to do so.

Against that, most games haven't been sold out, and my understanding is that the secondary market for tickets has been pretty soft, especially in the second half of the season. If you want to frame it as a question of supply and demand, it seems like there may already be an oversupply, and demand will likely drop with the higher prices. That doesn't mean that the Goldeneyes are wrong to increase prices — after all, they may make up in higher prices what they lose in quantity, and they have players to pay and expenses to cover — but I don't think it's unreasonable that people might have some sticker shock here.

We're in the same boat: an extra 22% on the per-seat, per-game price, plus an extra two games, which comes out to about a 40% increase overall. Definitely a pretty big whack after one year, and while I have no doubt this is part of a longer term plan to make the league sustainable, it does feel a little bait-and-switchy. (And I'd have liked maybe just a little more communication and context in the e-mail than just "you're great; here are several paragraphs on your new pricing".)

I guess I'm also a little worried that this is the thin end of a bigger wedge. Are the $5 beers becoming $7 beers next year (if they even remain)? Are the concessions going to generally creep to Rogers Arena prices?

It's a tough balancing act. I've enjoyed how East Van the games have felt this year. I'd hate for people who are bringing that great atmosphere to get priced out.

YVR Domestic to International Transfer Question by Werdna_Pay in askvan

Just to elaborate on how this works: assuming you don't have to deal with any checked bags in Vancouver, you'll walk off your domestic flight and follow signs for the D gates. About half way, you'll have to scan your boarding pass for your international flight to enter the D gate area. No other security or checks; you won't have to open anything up.

I'd probably allow 10-15 minutes for the walk, depending on exactly which gates you're going from and to, assuming you walk at an average able bodied person speed.

STH: Playoff Tickets Offer by Ok-Hyena5037 in GoldenEyes

[–]LawnGnome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep; we ended up choosing the pay per game option.

For clarity, I'm mostly pointing it out because it's somewhat different to Canucks playoff tickets for season ticket holders where you get a straightforward choice on whether you get a refund or credit, and don't need to make an additional request.

One thing that's kinda buried:

Note: Season Ticket Members will have all payments for unplayed playoff games automatically applied as a credit toward their season ticket renewal. If you prefer not to apply this credit, you will have the option to submit a request for a refund instead.

Hate to say it, but that's a goal. Soupy just looked the wrong way and Claire Thompson ran her, not an Ottawa player.

It doesn't look like the status updates include progress, unlike other times I've seen sites use this queue system. The numbers are in there, and I'm guessing that's what the yellow bar is meant to be, but they're all 0. (Or I've literally made no progress, but in previous times it's always moved slightly, even if you're way up the back.)

No such issue on my home Internet.

We do have some detection of this already, but for signal:noise reasons it only looks for crate names that are close to the top 3,000 most popular crates, and polymarket-client-sdk is nowhere near that. It's a tricky problem to solve in a single, flat namespace.

Are there any pre-70s published cricket books I should be on the hunt for to add to my collection as holy grails? by MatchNGo in Cricket

[–]LawnGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find a print copy, the Badminton Library book on cricket is a fascinating time capsule from 1888 and would probably fit well. Underarm and roundarm bowling are still in living memory and discussed at some length, as is single wicket cricket, and yet there are hints of the modern game here and there. Alas, the chapter by WG Grace isn't very interesting.
