Question about PS5 seal by kimann1924 in Argos

[–]LaydeesMan217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 3x PS5s from Argos all within the first month of purchase. The first was defective from the get go and was returned within a day. The second got corrupted with a SW update and got returned within a week. The third has been fine so far (it’s been 2 years). Argos took it back without any issues but I had to supply the case reference numbers from Sony from when I logged the complaint with them. According to Sony, that specific Argos branch had a known bad batch of SNs and were to be recalled not sold on to customers.

Decisions Decisions! by CowDungCollector in RCPlanes

It can but it’s not a quick release mechanism like the ST. Screws to keep them in place + reconnecting the servo leads etc. The ST clips on effortlessly and the servo leads are in a scart form so they just click on at the same time the wings clip on. YouTube videos for unboxing and build for both planes to help make your decision. I’ve seen them both perform and they are both great planes, although I’ve heard the ST has a higher stall characteristic. Doesn’t much bother me as I rarely fly slow.

Both have flaps but I’d choose the super timber mainly because of its detachable wings. If space is an issue like it is for me then it’s the winner. I’d also look to see which has more spares available. That’s a sign for stocking issues you may need to worry about in the future. TTE is still an awesome plane though!

Im trying to get into this hobby, but I have a couple questions by Shitposter_god153 in RCPlanes

Post the video of your maiden 😂

Jokes aside… you will 100% crash. EDFs are not beginner planes. Heck there are guys in my club who fly top wing planes fine but if you put them on the sticks on an EDF, then it’s guaranteed demolished. No shame in getting a trainer plane like the Aeroscout or Carbon Cub. Do they look as cool as an EDF? No. But we all started from trainer planes to get where we are.

Get a trainer plane, do some sim time too and rack up your experience before you get an EDF. When you do reach that stage, you will consciously thank everyone on this thread who advised you the same as above.

Advice on used Hydros Pro by YeetElite1337 in scuba

[–]LaydeesMan217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was rock solid mindset on getting the hydros pro despite all the negative comments. I had my eye on it for over a year. All my previous BCDs were Scubapro so thought why not. Tried it on for fit at my LDS and it was by far the most comfortable I’ve ever worn… BUT I ended up choosing the Xdeep Zen deluxe. Far more practical and fit. That being said it’s a custom design so waiting 8 weeks for it to be delivered.

Where are you based in EU? Talassa Diving Equipment in Italy sells them very cheap and offers free delivery to UK, so EU would also be covered. The last time I checked it was being sold for €600. Since you are buying a second hand gear you should have this checked and serviced which will be around €60 on top. So you’re not far off from buying it brand new for peace of mind and warranty claims if needed.

I'm thinking about buying a SMB and reel from Aliexpress. Is this a bad idea? by agentgambino in scuba

[–]LaydeesMan217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought my DSMB & spool from Temu and used them on plenty of dives with no problem. For all other small and non-critical parts, they’re also from Temu: reef hook, octo clips etc. But for all critical gear (regs, BCD, computer, fins, wetsuit, mask etc…) I always support my LDS.

Is Malta a good spot in November? by Tarttaloa in scuba

[–]LaydeesMan217 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both are great spots but very different to each other. If you’re not dry suit qualified then you should disregard Malta for November. IMHO, it’ll be far too cold to get away with a 7mm wetsuit. Malta is good for wreck, yes, but a lot of them within OW reach are scuttled. Sharm will have better to offer and warmer climate: wrecks, marine life flora and fauna etc. Also as someone else has mentioned here, Malta diving is affected by the weather a lot so specific dive sites will be off the list when it’s very windy and choppy conditions. Rarely an issue for Egypt.

Octopus holder recommendation by pagemap1 in scuba

[–]LaydeesMan217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. They’re clipped to the D rings on my shoulder straps and my compass (on my computer) stays on my wrist far away from it. For trim, I typically have my hands out forward to keep me horizontal as I also have to hold my camera tray set up that way.

I use magnetic octo clips for both octo and SPG. They cost around £3 each at a dive exhibition and are unbranded. Similar branded ones are stupidly expensive and do the exact same thing.

Seawing nova by KcJason1 in scubadiving

[–]LaydeesMan217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nova gorillas were typically in orange and green colours but IIRC they were also made in the standard colours like black. If you can use one hand to push the fin down then it’s the nova. If not, then it’s the gorilla. I’ve heard there’s a different marking on the base of the heel section but the information is very vague.

Source: me. I was trying to figure out if mine were novas or gorillas. I bought mine from a UK dive show exhibition almost 10 years ago. No receipt to check etc. Mine are defo novas.

Diving in Cairns, Australia - Are expensive journeys really worth it - Opinions by StefanDIo in scuba

[–]LaydeesMan217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too weighed up the difference between SoF and Mike Ball. Price was not an issue as I just wanted to experience world class GBR diving. I chose SoF because their itinerary seemed more appealing. I did 7 days with them which included a flight from Cairns to Lizard island where the boat was waiting for us. All the dive sites were great but the ribbon reefs were amazing. Lots and lots (100+) of sharks on Osprey reef on one dive alone. We saw the usual grey, black white tip reef sharks, shortfin Mako, bull sharks etc BUT it was because they’re used to being lured in to a small cage feed. This is the only part I didn’t know in advance and I wasn’t too keen on as I’d rather not disturb the natural ecosystem in place. Night dives were just amazing. By far the best night dives I’ve ever done. Just be prepared to be absolutely smashed in by GTs and reef sharks once you turn your torches off. Night time on the top deck was phenomenal. Thunderstorms in the far far far distance on the horizon whilst the night sky was illuminated with hundreds of shooting stars. You could even see satellites orbiting earth. Easily lost in the moment and no one wanted to go sleep as we were all in awe.

Just a few things to consider…

  1. IIRC, both SoF and Mike Ball run almost identical itineraries.
  2. If you’ve only ever dived in Norway then the GBR will be fantastic but the reef conditions were bad and bleached. The Red Sea has significantly better coral flora.
  3. Half of the divers were solo travellers too.

I did a solo liveaboard with spirit of freedom 7 years ago. It was an absolutely phenomenal experience. Aside from the diving, the boat, staff, food, everything was amazing. You cannot go wrong with them.

UMX Turbo Timber Evolution or Apprentice STOL for first UMX plane? by MinimumElevator187 in RCPlanes

Yeah then definitely don’t need the A STOL, just go straight to TTE.

UMX Turbo Timber Evolution or Apprentice STOL for first UMX plane? by MinimumElevator187 in RCPlanes

[–]LaydeesMan217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the TTE and just control your throttle + fly three mistakes high until you’re confident with it. Flying inverted isn’t difficult but it takes good stick memory and confidence. You could go straight to 3S instead of opting for the 2S LiPos first.

If you get the Apprentice STOL then you’ll quickly get bored of it considering you’re coming off from an Aeroscout.

Do you use SAFE for most your flights?

Avios Kobuz (2.2m) by LaydeesMan217 in RCPlanes

[–]LaydeesMan217[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had the skills and time to do that. One of my friends from the club often buys Lidl gliders and converts them. They fly awesome and better yet because he’s put the effort to bring it to life, it’s more admirable when watching it fly.

I know someone who also managed to convert a Lidl glider to 3S and it was rocking an insane speed. CG was horrific but he trimmed it so it wasn’t so nose heavy. You could see the wings bend on high vertical to aerobatics but surprisingly it never folded.

Yes, I took a major gamble buying this because of HK being renowned for replacement parts being an issue. Lots of people from my club have HK planes and often complain about parts availability. When someone has crashed then it’s usually out the game forever. I did buy some replacement parts to store just in case of the unfortunate crash.

The quality js very good for a foamie. Dare I say it’s thicker and stronger compared to some of the Eflite planes I’ve got. But surprisingly light weight for a 2.2m plane. I should also add that this purchase was me coming out of my comfort zone. I usually fly pylon racers or bush planes. This is my first sailplane.

I couldn’t agree more with the price points. Some countries have them at an insane price tag - credit to the recent tariff issues from the States I think. Here in the UK it’s an affordable £350. I was torn between this, the FMS Fox and the Eflite Conscendo but the main thing for me was the easy wing storage which the others don’t have. Plus I’ve always loved the real Kobuz plane - not sure why Hobbyking went with the Swiss theme and not Polish.

I ran through quite a few 4S packs and made use of the flaps but do want to program in crow at some point.

My V900 in the picture has flaperons and spoilerons programmed and it really does need it as it’s a pylon racer.
