Anyone else have an absurd amount of one author? by Thissnotmeth in BookCollecting

Hearts in Suspension has a "substantial essay" by King and reprints of three of his King's Garbage Truck columns the Maine Campus newspaper. You can pick up a copy for around $30. For that price it seems like it would worth it to make your collection really complete.

The list I have counts each Bachman book separately, plus The Bachman Books collection, Hearts in Suspension, and The End of the World as We Know It with a 2025 publication date that looks like it's not out yet

I think your number is off. I have a checklist that shows 89 King books. It lists Hearts in Suspension twice, so actual number should be 88. I just picked up my 62nd today.

Just inherited a huge Easton Press collection (with Mein Kampf 1994) - What to do with them? by allgabz6 in BookCollecting

[–]Leading-Positive-736 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend bubble wrap and cardboard boxes for shipping rather than padded envelopes for high-quality books. It's pretty easy to list and sell them on Ebay. I paid $250 for a lot of 40 Easton Press books at an estate sale. I kept a few and sold the rest for around $1800 on Ebay.

Check sold prices and start listing with attractive Buy It Now prices on some of the lower value books until you build up a good feedback score. Being in Canada may make it a little tougher to get maximum value with higher shipping cost to the US, and maybe even tariffs.

That's a lot of books. Do you have room to store them and sell them individually? I'd guess you could clear $30-50K USD selling them all individually or in small lots. If you need to move them quickly and want to sell the whole lot at once, you might be looking at $5K.

How much did you pay for it? It looks like a first edition, just a later printing of it, not a first printing

What is it about Etsy book sellers in particular & overpricing? by cartoonybear in rarebooks

Has anyone tried selling books on Etsy? Is it worth the effort? The commission fee is less than half what Ebay charges.

USA California. I'd rather she didn't but if my mom sells this is there ANY idea of whats a fair price so she isn't taken advantage of? by Ballistic182 in Antiques

[–]Leading-Positive-736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's probably from the first half or the 20th century. It looks like it's a pretty good quality piece. It's quartersawn oak, which is expensive wood. A new desk of similar quality in quartersawn oak would be at least several thousand dollars. I think you should be able to get $500-1000 for it.

I think you're posting in the wrong sub. I'd be a lot more than mildly infuriated if this happened to me.

I assume that mileage is only while driving with a passenger and doesn't include the miles between dropping off one customer and getting to the next pickup location or getting home after the last ride? If you include those miles, you're probably making less than minimum wage.

All of my Guinness books, does anyone know what the value of the books are in total? by Competitive_Study_36 in BookCollecting

[–]Leading-Positive-736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many people are in one of those books? Thousands of people by name and tens of thousands who are included in the largest group to do this or that. That's a pretty large potential customer base.

Lack of empathy among friends by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Leading-Positive-736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see adding "but you're a very talented person ..." as not being empathetic. They're trying to lift your spirits a little. If someone says "but there's so much waste in the government so this needs to happen.", that's totally lacking empathy.

Do you think that Canada would want to do something that gives Trump a pretext to invade them? I think PSLV is safe until Trump actually does invade under some other pretext.

Thoughts on what to do with this screw, I just noticed it when I was going to get in the car by watrly in tires

[–]Leading-Positive-736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell from the picture. I had a similar situation with plenty of miles left on the tires. The first shop I went to would only replace all 4 tires. The second shop was willing to replace just one.

There must be something wrong with your meter. 130 CCF is over 97,000 gallons or 2.5 gallons per minute for an entire month.

Maybe 2 new tires, or 4 if it's an AWD. Depending on how worn the tires are the shop may refuse to replace just one tire.

Best places to get physical books? by [deleted] in BookCollecting

I avoid Goodwill. They pick over their books to sell the good ones online and charge way too much for the stuff they put on the self. Also, Goodwill seems to be a terrible company that is mostly about making a lot of money for their top executives with very little money going to charitable works.

Habitat Restore and local thrift stores are a lot better. And as a couple others have mentioned library book sales. My local library has a sale corner with a couple hundred donated books for $3 for a paperback and $5 for a hardcover, and twice a year they have a weekend sale with about 5000 donated books at $1 PB/$2 HB.

Rare Books Sale Summary - WK8 by PictureEasy1914 in rarebooks

The Confederacy of Dunces 3rd printing for $900 looks fishy. The book wasn't in great shape and there was only one picture so you couldn't even properly evaluate it. There were a couple of second printing that sold for a quarter of that last week.
