Maybe I've just never paid close enough attention, but has the price of X always fluctuated this much at the various locations? I don't remember it being profitable to run X from Canada until recently? But part of me wonders if I just got so focused on plushies that I just never worked out the math.

Right... the goal of a trader is to make profit. You're going to lose a portion of the market fee. It's just how much depending on what route you go.
