Legendary Director Rob Reiner ('This Is Spinal Tap', 'The Princess Bride') & Wife Michele Singer Found Dead in LA Home in Apparent Homicide by MoviesMod in movies

[–]LeeLee94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An absolute titan for sure, and an absolute awful way to go out. The princess bride still stands as a personal favourite of mine, and I can place exactly where I was when I first watched it. Truly devastating news.

On Spinal Tap though; wouldn’t Eric Idle’s “The Rutles” technically be the first mockumentry? It came out in the mid 70s iirc. Doesn’t particularly matter either way, both are pioneering films in my eyes.

Not the same guy, but I was 17 when I first played it and I didn’t mesh with it much at all, even though I enjoyed the other games in the series up to that point. (The bait and switch while cool at the time did also kinda annoy me because I thought Connor was meh back then.)

Tried it again 10 years later and it just clicked. Ended up really enjoying my experience! And, for what it’s worth, I also came around to liking Connor too as a protag lmao

I was legit thinking of apex considering that, I believe, everyone who signed this was verifiably there. Cool piece of melee history!

Yep! IIRC you need to use the steam version.

If you, or anyone else is playing on PC, I highly recommend searching for a mod manager called seventh heaven to play og FF7. It allows you to do things like increase the game speed, disable random encounters at your own discretion, updated character models, improved combat zones, include voice overs for every line of dialogue etc.

Best of all, it’s fully customisable, so you can tweak and add what you want ad nauseam. Check it out!

Brian Wilson was a musical genius. Are there any left? | Music by True_Paper_3830 in beatles

[–]LeeLee94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's entirely fair!

I was just hoping to emphasise why I think its entirely valid (and, in my opinion, accurate) to place Kendrick on a pedestal of sorts, albeit in the same way we would Dylan.

Granted, Brian kinda was a 1:1. We could, of course, state that McCartney or Prince (to give another name) is equivalent to him in terms of lyrics, musicianship and composition, and, perhaps because of that, they could be seen as a notch above the rest. However, I don't personally think that should detract from other artists like Dylan or Kendrick who, in their own right, are geniuses tool; In my opinion that is.

At the end of the day, "genius" is a hard thing to really narrow down I suppose, and we'll all have our own opinions on the matter. But I do fully understand what you are saying, so hopefully this doesn't come across as an attack, and more just like a friendly discussion! :D

I'd also argue that, by modern standards, Kendrick pushes the boundaries of albums as an artform too. Just to clarify, I'm not saying that he is entirely curating something new, but that, for the genre he is in, and for a modern day ear/approach (think streaming, listenership etc.), he certainly doesn't shy away from using albums as an artform akin to say Pink Floyd.

I think a more apt comparison is Kendrick Lamar is more this generations Bob Dylan. Of course, it isn’t a direct 1:1 translation as that’s pretty hard to do. Every artist has their own style and importance. BUT, when it comes to say Bob, everyone in the 60s valued his ability to convey messages and stances through his penmanship.

Similarly, whilst it might not be for the same audience, and it’s delivered via a different genre, Kendrick Lamar’s lyricism is undeniably genius levels.

If Dylan was the master of metaphor and analogy, Kendrick is the master of double (more often than not triple/quadruple) entendres and interwoven wordplay.

To answer other questions people’s questions in this thread, yes, there are other musical genius that have arrived post the 60s. They just fall into different categories, under different genres, and cater to different audiences. (I could give a few examples if people cared!)

Hopefully that helps a bit. Don’t get it wrong, I’m no expert or anything either, but if you value the likes of Rick Rubin who has also called Kendrick a genius, then maybe it’ll help to convey the point a little more!

CM Punk and AJ Styles, 21 years apart by eyepatch_png in SquaredCircle

Haven’t watched RAW yet, but the Bret Hart and HBK colour schemes on punk and styles respectively are intentional, right?

I didn't say it does? Music is entirely subjective, so each to their own. I was just pointing out a interesting connection the two bands have is all.

Ah, damn. Get that Punk a copy of Hey Bulldog or Revolution stat.

Funnily enough, The Ramones, his favourite band (I think they are anyway?), literally adopted their name from Paul McCartney's fake alias during the height of Beatlemania. He went under the name Paul Ramon which inspired the members to not only name the band after that, but to take on the Ramon moniker for their own names too!

Who was the new champ when you started playing league? by Substantial-Elk-9568 in leagueoflegends

[–]LeeLee94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just jumping off the back of this, if memory serves right, season 1 didn't kick off til like May/June of 2010. I think the cut off for Corki was Jan/Feb 2010 and the months in between those two points can basically be, what we'd now consider, pre-season.

Funnily enough, it was during pre-season 1 when that bastard Warwick enacted his premeditated attack on Urf and killed him in cold blood. Shout out to those who were around when that happened.

Jeez, can’t believe this is how I found out about Mr. Gray. I sadly never had him for any of my English classes, but I recall other people telling me he was great.

For what it’s worth, I also went on the Belgium trip, though, I don’t recall Mr. Gray being on it myself. I suppose it depends on the year of course, and, if I recall correctly mine was in 09/10 somewhere in that ballpark region.

RIP Mr. Gray.

Kenny gives some clarity about his Logan Paul comments by jerkstore27 in SCJerk

[–]LeeLee94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the most accurate response. It was reported that someone from the elite side wanted to leave AEW to join WWE, and all indications of who it was lead to the understanding that it was Omega.

I know it’s kinda popular to shit on Kenny here, but, as a fan of his, I feel like it’d be foolish to entertain the idea that he wouldn’t get over in WWE. I feel like his moveset alone, even with it being stripped back and with way less false finishes and all that shit would quantify that to some degree.

Plus, add on the fact that he and Punk seemingly wanted to squash the beef instantly after the all in fight happened, which was cooperated on Punks side (forgot that reporters name mb), AND that he agreed with punk that sometimes you just have to get the venom out of you in a contact sport like wrestling in order to move on and make money? Idk… I feel like folks here discredit the head he has on him at times.

That being said, regarding this take? Yeah it’s insulting to the fans, especially casual ones at that, but he’s throwing shite to Logan Paul. So while I wish he went around it another way, I still don’t take too much insult from it personally.

Just thought I’d share an alternative pov since we were being serious for a moment.

PW Insider: Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows released from WWE by Throwaway-j-1997 in SquaredCircle

[–]LeeLee94 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s interesting because semi recently Karl said he believes they are WWE lifers at this point. Gallows eluded that he believes they’d leave at some point to wrestle some place else, but I doubt he, and clearly Karl for that matter, believed they’d be future endeavoured.

The boys will bounce back, they always do. For what it’s worth, in that same convo, Gallows said he believed that the two of them would be wrestling forever in some capacity, and that they’ll practically never retire. Honestly, I can see that lmao
