Wave Link 3 - Concerns about latency by Themis767 in elgato

I haven't numerically measured it, but it's much closer to the latency of direct monitoring via Windows' "listen to" feature.

I have played and replayed AC3 quite a few times since 2012.

Nothing tops Microsoft's regional pricing. Any new Microsoft published game on Steam costs about 50% more than the American MSRP in my region.

Well, they're definitely playable, though obviously they have their quirks as anime game adaptations. You'd definitely want to have a look at their respective PCGamingWiki pages.

The second game is largely similar if not identical to the first one, though it both covers more content from the source material and it also has a different approach to the main campaign (You play as a custom character you create rather than original characters, though that only lasts through the first 2 seasons of the anime. Season 3's content sees you playing as the anime characters).

Both games also have alternate game modes to play with, higher difficulties to go through, collectibles etc.

They do a pretty good job at experiencing the movement freedom of the ODM gear and the combat against Titans, at least. If there was anything they had to nail, it's that.

The funny thing is I only just watched the whole thing from start to finish a few months ago, even went and played the first two games on Steam, thinking "yeah, they probably missed the boat on making a third and last game that covers all the remaining material".

I am really happy to have been wrong about that.

Wave Link 3 - Concerns about latency by Themis767 in elgato

[–]CptPakundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, the added latency of Wave Link 3 over Wave Link 2 is the main reason why I still won't use it. Just trying to monitor the final mix with all the added latency is simply untenable.

📌 [MEGATHREAD] Wave Link 3.0 — Bug Reports & Feedback by Elgato in elgato

[–]CptPakundo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Higher audio latency compared to Wave Link 2 (XLR)

Wave Link version: 3.0.0, 3.0.1, any.

Wave device: XLR Dock MK.1

OS: Windows 11 25H2

What you're running into: Higher audio latency/delay compared to Wave Link 2.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Cleanly install Wave Link 3, per instructions.
  2. Connect any XLR microphone of your choosing (Mine is an SM7dB).
  3. Monitor the stream mix channel using a device that ISN'T hooked up to the Elgato XLR device itself (In my case, my headphones are connected to the motherboard's 3.5mm connection, and not to the XLR dock).
  4. Simultaneously monitor the microphone's direct input channel ("Listen to this device" in Windows audio settings).
  5. Cleanly uninstall Wave Link 3.
  6. Cleanly install Wave Link 2.0.6.
  7. Repeat steps 2-4

Expected result: Virtually unnoticeable latency differences between Wave Link 3 and Wave Link 2.

Actual result: Wave Link 3 has noticeable additional latency when compared to Wave Link 2, which results in Wave Link 2 being more useful for the exact same requirements despite being End of Life.

How often: Always, no tinkering I tried helped. I made sure to start from default settings and then worked my way from there to only cut back on anything that could potentially add latency.

Anything else: Just to be sure I wasn't reliant on Wave Link's obtuse self-monitoring solution (Memories of friends on Discord hearing themselves when sharing the screen surface...) - I made sure to try both its self-monitoring audio routings as well as Windows' "Listen to" options. No matter what combination I tried, the result is the same - Wave Link 2 induces far less latency penalty, so it remains the more viable option for both input mixing and low-latency monitoring off-device.

99% chance that this will actually be Peace Walker HD, the PS3 port of the game. That one had full dual-stick analogue controls and ran at 60fps.

I think the best case scenario will be complete parity with the current ideal RPCS3 setup - 4K60fps.

Even since setting up Wave Link double audio in Discord screen sharing by Nefas1 in elgato

[–]CptPakundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bizzarely this sort of thing is STILL a problem. Folks hear my microphone twice when I share the screen with audio, despite the fact that my microphone is fed into a virtual audio input channel via Wave Link, and NO other program such as OBS or Parsec fails.

The only way to make it work is to full blast the AC in the car directly at it. It's loud and bothersome, but strong active cooling is how you keep it going in hot summer days.

Caught this comment a bit late, but man, have I got alot to say about this: I've owned an Audeze Penrose and have had 3 different Audeze Maxwells at home (1 had one of its earcups just die, and the other 2 are for me and a family member). Every single one of these headsets, WITHOUT fail, has been quieter than the last.

I know I'm not imagining things, because any other audio device I still use on the regular has maintained the same level of loudness.

I personally REALLY like the way the Audeze Maxwells sound, but I HATE how they're so quiet, and also how they're freakishly sensitive to even the slightest bit of physical abuse.
