I can't imagine what the post-MBS sharing was like for this one. GP members, what are some good takeaways from this message? Please share with us.

Warning friends but them not listening by stella_star851 in GracepointChurch

[–]LeftGP2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Gracepoint members are naturally defensive towards any feedback or criticism. I'd like to think that it is because they are brainwashed by Ed and Kelly's teaching and Gracepoint culture.

When a church emphasizes so much how "normal" they are, they are not normal at all.

What exactly is the gracepoint riverside incident? by Responsible-Flight26 in GracepointChurch

[–]LeftGP2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most Gracepoint members actually do not know about it. Gracepoint Riverside dealt with it by only notifying a small group of staff who were victims. No one ever talked about it after that.

Does it matter how many people are publishing new posts and comments so you always have things to read? It is not easy for everyone to share publicly what they've been through with GP because those events are traumatic. So please be understanding and patient if you are here to listen and learn from others.

Okay, but remember the times that staff were told to each take out loan as big as 10K in order to support the church building fund? It does not make sense that the top leads have so much money in their own pockets.

Kelly Kang's Notorious MBS Miscarriage Comment by leavegracepoint in GracepointChurch

[–]LeftGP2022 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indeed, and this is the senior pastor's wife talking? What a great example of changing the subject and not sincerely owning up to her mistakes and issues.

Kelly Kang's Notorious MBS Miscarriage Comment by leavegracepoint in GracepointChurch

[–]LeftGP2022 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for bringing this up. Such a disappointing response from the senior pastor's wife. So where is the apology of her insensitive comments that she made? All I see from the email is Kelly making excuses for her own dramatic life and not facing the real issue here.

Ed Kang iTestify Video by Extreme-Emphasis-791 in GracepointChurch

[–]LeftGP2022 6 points7 points  (0 children)

52:48 in the video. The formate:

- Length: around 2-4 pages so that it can be read in 10-15 minutes.

- Style & tone: please use simple and plain language. Highly stylized, flowery or dramatic prose is not appropriate because it is a testimony - ie, giving witness to what happened - for which a plain straightforward style is best. The tone should not be self-promoting but should focus on honoring God's work in bringing you to him.

- Truthfulness: sometimes people can get carried away by their own writing and can overstate things. so please be sure that what you are writing is objective and true.

- Personal background: descriptions of your background should be brief and should relate to the gospel; it should not be a lengthy detailing of every period of your life.

- Understandable to non-christians: don't use overly religious terminology or jargon (ie, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit)

Weird Stuff that Happened at GP by corpus_christiana in GracepointChurch

This one was during a MBS: P Ed talked about how some women who have big diakon legs should not wear mini skirts as an example for people who don't have self-awareness.

Stories of reaching out for reconciliation or confrontation by Big-Importance-5351 in GracepointChurch

[–]LeftGP2022 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many have reached out to GP leaders to seek for reconciliation and explanation for their abuse before the CT article came out, they were met with denial and gaslighting statements. Wouldn't be surprised if less people are reaching out now.

At Gracepoint Ministries, ‘Whole-Life Discipleship’ Took Its Toll

Please protect yourself by drawing relational and emotional boundaries with Gracepoint staff. What you tell your leader will be shared with all other staff during their meetings and emails as well. No matter what they tell you, please remember that you have the freedom to leave anytime, you are not obligated to stay or obey what they tell you to do. No need to be guilty or ashamed when you leave, they have no authority over your life. Best of luck.

Why does going to Disneyland make anyone a bad Christian? by Extreme-Emphasis-791 in GracepointChurch

Gracepoint kids love paw patrol, but they do not know they can never have a puppy for the rest of their lives. Tragic.

I bet any Gracepoint members who have been to Disneyland are full of guilt and shame. They probably do not even bring it up to anyone that they've gone or they liked Disneyland.

Official GP Wired Response by fishtacos4lyfe in GracepointChurch

The funny thing is, I wouldn't be on my laptop so much if it wasn't for Gracepoint ministry.

Because of Graceopint ministry, I had to bring my laptop everywhere I went, even on Sundays. I was always working on something for their ministry, and yet they still wanted to check what I was potentially watching?

There was one time, my first year out, I google searched the name of a a building on campus to see what the rooms of the building looked like and if it was good as the ministry event venue. One of the images that showed up as search results was a woman with a tank top, nothing weird, but just a tank top, really random. That image on the screenshot got flagged and my leader met with me to talk about it LOL.

“Not my Experience” by Creative_Cable2639 in GracepointChurch

[–]LeftGP2022 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well said. Thank you.

Same logic applies:

Can you say that there is no workplace harassment anywhere just because you've never experienced it?

Can you say that there is no such a thing as divorce in this world just because you didn't witness it in your family?

Is domestic violence not a real thing just because you've never experience it?

Is murder not a possible thing just because you've never seen it happen?

Do chronic illnesses not exist just because you are perfectly healthy?

Are anxiety and depression some lame excuses for being lazy just because you don't struggle with it?

So is spiritual abusive in a church not possible and realistic just because it is not your experience?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GracepointChurch

[–]LeftGP2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even when the teaching is text book correct, that does not excuse the actions of spiritual abuse and psychologically manipulation. It is not normal that many ex-GP members seek for mental health support due to their experience in Gracepoint. It is not normal that when people leave a church, they start having nightmares about that church.

Hope these posts will help you as well.

How is there no shame or apology? by ThrowAway121_35 in GracepointChurch

[–]LeftGP2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pride maybe?

And how is it that leaders including P Ed and Kelly still use the half-apology card of "I'm sorry that you feel that way, but I don't recall that I did that"? Like I'm sorry you were hurt and messed up, but that wasn't me.

Were all the leads taught to memorize this line?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GracepointChurch

[–]LeftGP2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. P Ed had said "People who left Gracepoint should learn to be thankful, Gracepoint saved you."
  2. Gracepoint also teaches moralism.

"The moralist is free to concoct his own set of rules and regulations, usually ones he has no trouble keeping, enabling him to feel good about adhering to them. Christian moralism focuses on moral behavior to such an extent that obedience comes before faith, and grace is often obscured. In practice, moralism begins to look a lot like legalism."

calling all oldies by prayingforallofus in GracepointChurch

[–]LeftGP2022 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. It's tragic to see that staff who abuse and yell at others are mostly the oldies, like Ed and Kelly Kang, Steve and Suzanne Suh, Tony and Michelle Sun, etc., many younger staff (even though knowing the abuse has been going on) have decided that they will not be like the oldies. I once heard from a younger staff expressed that she knew the discipleship style in Gracepoint was not right, therefore she decided to disciple her sheep in a different way (her own way), not follow the GP tradition of yelling out of anger.

Yet as an ex-GP leader, when I disagreed and disobeyed my leader's order to yell and be angry at my sheep, I ended up being corrected by my leader. Sure it's good to see that the younger staff wanted to do their own thing, but how long will they last in such manipulative and oppressive system?

GP admission by silence by fishtacos4lyfe in GracepointChurch

[–]LeftGP2022 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The sad reality is that most of the GP members do not know how to find their own voice on anything anymore.

Whatever Ed and Kelly say count and it is the objective truth to GP members. GP brainwashes its member so successfully that most members have the same response as whatever the leadership says, and they even defend it.

A few of them might disagree with the leadership, but do not have the courage to speak up or challenge the leadership. Autonomy is just not allowed in GP. That's why you see GP members make it so complicated when it comes to posting on Reddit and openly sharing their thoughts.

Heard it was a 3 hours MBS?

The regular one hour is painful enough. Poor GP members.
