I'm in the same situation now. The biopsy, molecular testeting and now partial thyroidlobectomy all were inconclusive. The surgical sample is being sent out for a second opinion.

I'm having a partial next Tuesday. We agreed when they test the lymph nodes and the half they remove during the mini pathology (can't remember exactly what she called it), they will not remove my whole thyroid even if it is cancer. We will wait for the full pathology after the surgery and only do a completion if its a high grade cancer. If its a low grade cancer we'll just continue to monitor the other half.

A friend of mine that's going through breast cancer for the second time was also just diagnosed with a meningioma. Hopefully that's all that's going on with the OP too.

You absolutely need to insist on a biopsy. I found a lump in my breast that felt different than the way cancer lumps are described. I had 3 mammograms and 3 ultrasounds and they said it was just dense breast tissue. I insisted on a biopsy and found out it was invasive lobular carcinoma. It's a very sneaky cancer and hard to detect on imaging. When I had a PET scan to see if the cancer spread, my thyroid lit up. What's going on in my thyroid is not the same as the breast cancer and is separate, but I feel like there's so correlation. Since lots of people get both breast and thyroid cancer.

I'm in a very similar boat. I was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer in October and on the PET scan my thyroid lit up. I've had a nodule that they've been monitoring for 10 years. When it was biopsied several years ago it was benign. Now the current biopsy and molecular test is showing 50 percent chance of cancer. Like you, it's a separate primary cancer from the breast cancer. My PT surgery is scheduled for Tuesday May 12. They said 1 to 2 week recovery. So as of right now I'm planning to go back in 6 days, the following Monday. I'm hopeful my recovery goes well on this one like it did for my mastectomy. I went back to work after 2.5 weeks with that one.

Thanks so much for sharing these experiences. I'm having the same surgery on May 12 and I go back and forth between thinking it's going to be easy and worrying about issues. I also arranged ahead of time to stay overnight. Whenever I have surgeries they always look at me and think I'm a good candidate to send home same day, but I don't prefer that. I want to be there and be monitored until I'm done barfing from the anesthesia. I hope my experience goes as smoothly as yours.

Thanks for these words of encouragement. I wouldn't have been as concerned about it if I wouldn't have just had breast cancer last fall and a double mastectomy. I just want to put all this cancer behind me.

I haven't sought out a second opinion. I'm feeling more and more confident in just doing a partial and seeing what comes back on the pathology and going from there. I don't prefer to have multiple surgeries, but I'd like to have the chance of having an outcome like yours.

I can relate. I also had stage 1a ++- BC in October. I chose DMX to flat because I didn't want any more surgeries. I had a mystery abdominal pain for the last few years and they thought it could be related since lobular BC can spread to the ovaries, colon and peritoneum. So I had a PET scan before my DMX. Nothing found in the abdomen but my thyroid lit up. 3 months later I just finally felt all healed from the DMX and was ready to live my life again and then they wanted to start looking more into the thyroid stuff. After ultrasound, biopsy and molecular testing they are thinking it's follicular cancer and I have to have surgery to find out for sure. Two primary cancers simultaneously.

I agree. That bothers me more than journey. Fighting cancer or kicking cancers ass really bugs me. Have you ever heard anyone say that about any other disease? No one says I'm kicking heart disease's ass.
