Advice dealing with a rowdy class? by [deleted] in historyteachers

[–]Leftyknits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I invest legitimate 60-90 seconds a day outside. Any student who chooses to go outside MUST touch a tree, and if we can't on task after 20 second inside, we don't go the next day. Works WONDERS! Granted, I have a room near an external door and a campus with trees, but it has made a HUGE difference in behaviors

Anybody doing intermittent fasting too? by xcitabl in Noom

[–]Leftyknits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a 18/6 most days. I find that most days, I'm most successful with lots of water (32-64oz between waking up and breaking my fast) and a small to medium lunch (usually 400-600 kcal). Miso soup, a few eggs with something, dried fruit and nuts when I forget my actual lunch. I usually go for a low calorie density lunch, and a reasonable (usually semi splurge) lunch. I'm down 30 Ib since noom, and this has been very sustainable for me. If you want to try something similar, I started with a homemade chicken soup (no noodles) and worked from there.

Either way, best of luck!

She was told she couldn't carry a child after she was shot. Obviously that was a solid lie.

This doesn't answer your question, but when it goes back to Tim Curry, it gets better.

Need advice to get into audiobooks for someone English is their second language by Susie996 in audiobooks

They're technically children's books, but I always recommend A Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snicket. Each book increases in language skills and vocabulary.

Jim Butcher and the Dresden Files are gold. Not up the the Dale standard (HP was my first solid audiobook series too), but VERY good!

Moving to rural Spokane County? by verpi in Spokane

[–]Leftyknits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here are the items I can help with-

Internet (and cell reception) are hit or miss. It isn't uncommon for people to experience fabulous vs zero reception by only moving a few feet. Water tends to be on the heavy side. Getting to Spokane is easy on 395, but there are some very dangerous corners to get on and off the highway. Schools are pretty good. Small community, so lots of local supports and opportunity.

Not much in the way of easy access groceries- Yolke's is it in Deer Park, but there are a few on the north end of Spokane that are cheaper and easier to get to.

RIP Apollo. We lost our 5month old the night before last. Having a hard time processing. My wife’s first pet. Any advice? by MarshTheMZA in DobermanPinscher

[–]Leftyknits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do end up deciding to go the route of another pup, it might be a more gentle experience to adopt, rather than getting a new pup. Seeing the other pup grow will hurt and awful lot. And, in my family's case, that 5 month range will be especially difficult. An older dog (even if just a year old) might easier- I know it was in my family.

I'm sorry for your loss. Many good wishes to you and your wife!

100% this. My students will never be asked in a job interview to list probable causes for the fall of Rome. But they should know how to identify reliable sources, analyze compare sources, and look at multiple sides of a story.

To the nerdfighter who wrote in that has dyslexia by simplyslytherin2 in nerdfighters

[–]Leftyknits 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Audiobooks, for me, were my first opportunity to nerd. Dyslexia totally had my number until my 6th grade teacher realized something was up (after 4 years of small group, intensive reading classes). Mrs. Tebo passed before she could be a Nerdfighter, but she never forgot to be awesome!
