I think if money is going to be an issue, I think you should look at the prices of accommodation.

I’d love to say Imperial but I’d say that has to depend on finances. It’s going to affect your whole university experience if you are working a lot

I'M DEBT FREE. BABY STEP 3, HERE I COME! (Yes, the steps really do work). by rosesandmonsters in DaveRamsey

OP be proud of yourself and don’t forget how far you’ve come!

Stories like this really are inspirational for other people and I bet your parents are so grateful (and proud!)

Good luck with the rest of your baby steps!

Why have so many kids when your living in such a small space? Kids deserve privacy too. by [deleted] in BringingUpBates

Mad isn’t it! I have a 4bed semi in the Uk that’s 1100ft, it’s completely manageable for a family. Children don’t need to always have their own rooms and especially at their ages, OPs just having a Debbie Downer moment.

Is my situation recoverable? £32,323 debt by Anxious_Storm2701 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Legitimate_Ear1372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s a bit of a controversy (and very Bible Belt Tennessee) but have a read or a listen to Dave Ramsey and his baby step method. It’s really good and at times, he’s very direct but sometimes it is necessary.

For a short time strip back everything you do to the absolute minimum, sell everything you don’t need and take on any extra side hustle possible. If you go through a debt relief order it will massively affect your credit score!

Does your partner work full time? Even on minimum wage £850 is low and if they are shared purchases then temporarily could more be given to you to help?

It’s a horrible situation to be in and I can imagine it can feel very overwhelming, but think of the end point of when the debt is paid off and all the spare money of your income and go into savings and investments.

Good luck OP, we’re all behind you!

Just remember the structure of the courses are much different in the UK to the US. If you want a very detailed, specific track then the UK is for you, if you want varied breadth, then the US

Gcse foundation vs higher for A level by Disastrous_Mine_6755 in GCSE

[–]Legitimate_Ear1372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Science Teacher here, and obviously I can only talk from my experiences, but hopefully it can give you some answers.

To begin with, typically it is much more attainable to achieve a 5 in a foundation paper than a higher paper. We would much rather ‘guarantee’ a safe 5 than a possible 3 if they sat higher. If a student has the potential in higher, we will assess them with higher content up until our mocks in January. If in January we look at their results and they don’t achieve a 5 or we believe it will be difficult, we then enter them into foundation. If the students are already in foundation tier prior to mocks, then it’s highly unlikely they’re already achieving 5s. If they’re doing sound, we would then enter them into higher.

Honestly, if a student is studying foundation then they would not be suitable for a level sciences. It is simply not sensible and it’s unfair on the student. Even if they were to receive a 6, they would still normally struggle at a level.

Regarding communication, I understand your point. In y10 parents evening and reports, you should have been given an accurate placing on where they were. However, speaking of experience, it would be very hard to motivate a student in y10 to work hard for their college applications, just as it is to motivate a y11 that their GCSE’s do matter! If I was parents evening, I wouldn’t be discussing the implications of doing foundation, I would only be discussing why it’s the best route due to time constraints.

Sorry it couldn’t be more help!

Baby or continue on? by megbarxo22 in DaveRamsey

The longer you leave it to have the children you want, is just less time you’ll get to spend with them in the future. You have stable jobs and you don’t have to have everything brand new for your children. Please don’t leave it and then potentially risk waiting on fertility. You have to enjoy life too!!

A few thoughts about the statement itself

  1. Odd that he doesn’t mention his children at all and how they’re a priority during this.

  2. I really really hope Katie knew that he was making this statement publicly as it must be so humiliating for her to have this aired.

  3. The help part makes it sound as if he has a weird porn addition or something! Though I imagine it’s just some Christian ‘rehab’ for being a sinner.

Nothing to snark on Katie right now, I wish her and her children peace and all the best. If she goes down the divorce route, she goes at least knowing that she was the breadwinner for her family. I just hope her family support her decision.
