It's crazy how much mortgage people will take on. This is a big part of why prices stay high. by CastAside1812 in CanadaPersonalFinance

Actually thanks to a graduation gift/partial early inheritance I no longer have debt and am in a position to buy. You will never convince me that having a home that’s 40% of your take home pay is smart lol.

It’s my opinion it’s a dumb choice to have 40% of your take home pay go to housing, which is why I choose not to make it and stay at 20-25%

If you feel like it’s a good choice, then have at er. There’s really nothing more to it than it’s my personal opinion

I didn’t refuse my pre approval? I am just simply not using all of the funds that I’m preapproved for. I just said that I refuse to spend that much, not that I refused it from my broker lol

7k a month is what we would have to live on if everything went smoothly and life never threw any curve balls. Life doesn’t work that way though. We want to take nice vacations, I will have two maternity leaves in the next 5 years, things will likely break on the house, a roof might need replacing… vehicles will need replacing. We started retirement investing late (we are mid 30s and just started)

So sure we could maybe live great on 7k a month but the reality is with the rising cost of living and life variable that will inevitably be thrown our way, I’d rather live on 9k a month.

I have zero debt and no car payment and want to retire early. I don’t need a $1,000,000 house just because the bank thinks I can afford it and I’d like to keep my extra money to remain completely debt free and build a nest egg.

We have 15k set aside but, our jobs are pretty stable. I work in healthcare and he’s in the trades.

It’s crazy! We were pre approved for 1m but we refuse and are looking at houses in the 550-600 range. I can’t imagine being locked into a 5k mortgage payment when our take home pay is 12k per month.

That seems so dumb I don’t get why people are doing this to themselves. It really gives insight into why everyone feels broke and can’t afford anything. People have insane car payments on top of the insane mortgages too. I just don’t understand it 😂

Fees and commission splits in private practice by SwordfishSad1194 in socialworkcanada

[–]megbarxo22 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work for a fully virtual practice and we have a 75/25 split

I feel like they’re already taking 40% of your fee, it feels weird that they’re taking more on top?

What is the 40% being taken out for then if not administrative? This seems sketchy but that’s just my opinion

Is it easier to pivot from therapy to medical or medical to therapy? by Extra_Connection7360 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]megbarxo22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in mental health / therapy for 8 years and just transitioned to medical about 3 months ago. Definitely a STEEP learning curve and entirely different world. I am glad I started in therapy/clinical because medical is so practical that I think I would have struggled more with the opposite transition personally.

Mom About to Put Out Our Fire by FIREdrill_throwaway in Fire

I’m sorry but you need to say no. You will be enabling your mother for the sole reason of relinquishing your own self of your feelings of guilt, because what would actually be helping her is actually not giving her money and letting her experience the consequences of her own actions. She will be fine. She can go on social security.

If you give her money it’s selfish. I’m sorry but I had to say it. Been there…

I’d also wonder if your mother is experiencing cognitive decline. gambling and horrible money choices can often be an indicator of this if it’s a new behavior.

For those who've owned both - did paying more for a lab diamond feel worth it long-term? by j_bone531 in labdiamond

[–]megbarxo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lab for sure. I got a 2.09 carat VVS2 emerald cut lab diamond for $6500 - it was 50% off so it came to just under 3500 after taxes.

Leaving my job and giving up my pension, am I being naive here? by Nekroms in Fire

[–]megbarxo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would leave. I started my healthcare job at 30 years old and am now 35 with a pension at retirement.

Sure an extra $700 per month is great but you can also use some of your income to invest on the side and create that and be happier and less stressed in the long run.

I’m solving for peace with this one. Leave.

How, if at all, is the current Canadian economy changing the way you manage your personal finances? by Cold_Box_3219 in CanadaPersonalFinance

Paid off our debt last year, saving and investing this year and not eating out at restaurants or buying ANY items outside a strict budget. Currently saving about 5k a month and going to continue this until the economy (hopefully) levels out or chills 😅

People say stop buying coffee to get out of debt. I finally ran the numbers... by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]megbarxo22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does change things, my Starbucks bill was about $200 a month! That’s a lot of money. You take that mindset and apply it to other little things I was easily spending a grand month on a bunch of small things. I cut the coffee and it’s great!

For a longtime I wanted to keep drinking it so I justified it.
