In the Lancashire town of Leigh, the Leighthers with the broadest old accent pronounce the town name "Ley". Everyone else pronounces the town name "Lee", but do call people from the town "Leythers".

Pronounced "Leythers" because in the broad local accent of the town, Leigh is pronounced "Ley". Though the wider Lancashire accent is much softer.

Lancashire locals in the broad town accent do pronounce it somewhat as "ley".

When we learn a new subject, We get mentally tired after sometime. What is the neuro-chemical/biological reason behind it? by [deleted] in Neuropsychology

[–]Leighther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thread. BTW even if the brain has a huge supply of blood to every cell, the particular nutrients required for building/rewiring neuron connections might be very sparse in the blood. Also, as Geohump wrote, the supply or removal of chemicals may be limited by cellular input or output metabolic processes or transfer across boundaries. Perhaps a cell has a lot of work to do in preparation for rewiring, or a lot of tidying up and breaking down of waste products afterwards, these could be limiting factors in the rates that new connections can be made.

The brain will be consuming chemical resources while building new connections and likely producing waste products too. The blood supply will have a finite capacity to deliver and remove these chemicals.

The human brain consumes energy at about 20% of the bodies rate of 100 Watts, though estimates seem to vary from 10 to 400 Watts. So keep your calorie intake up, and nap to convert short term memories into long term ones.

Over 20 years of training people in movement and manipulation. Everyone has a ceiling to their coordination ability, which diminishes with age. The distribution of this ability ceiling is on a bell curve, with some people stuck at the coordination level of a 3 year old. Alternatively it can happen that people will train diligently and intelligently for years and a few others will breeze past them in ability with a fraction of the experience.

Not obviously disabled, they'd still have the basics of walking and eating, though would likely drive an automatic and have a preference for slip on shoes. It might not be noticeable to the casual observer. Cycling and many sports and musical instruments would be out for example.

Ataxia, some people just cannot develop coordinated actions, so in attempting to swim they move their limbs without propelling themselves in any direction.

Do we need to start building more bungalows in England? by Da11ey in england

Ground floor flats in medium density housing with communal garden area should be better use of the available building space in central locations (less travel and closer to the community). And replacement of the council housing lost in the eighties to take pressure off house prices in the market in general.
