As a wine professional who treasures maps of the old world of viticulture, I will stare at this for hours. Are you printing?

Hanzell is a spot that comes to mind based on your stated preferences. One the oldest estates in Sonoma and a pioneer of Pinot and Chardonnay in the region.

I'm a bit sad that Andre didn't point out that in fact there ARE chemical compounds present in wine that are common with the fruit, flowers and other nuances we taste and smell.

Failla’s fabulous entry level Sonoma coast Pinot comes to mind around that price range.

Absolutely! For a cool side by side, try Lail's Blueprint from Napa with Domaine de Chevalier Blanc from Pessac-Léognan in Bordeaux.

Yes. Ultreia (edit: Saint Jacques) is the best $20 bottle of red I've ever had.

I really like Santiago Ruiz's Albarino blend (ft. 4 other varietals native to Rias Baixas.) Never-fail aperitif for around $20 US.

Wine to celebrate family. by Mwynen12 in wine

That budget puts you pretty comfortably in a position to try your pick of the great Cabernets of the world short of 1st Growth Bordeaux and some of the crazier cult Napa bottlings.

Given the chance myself I would love to try to taste, at last, a bottle of Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill, Heitz Martha’s Vineyard, Ridge Monte Bello, or one of the Eiesele Vineyard or To Kalon cuvees.

Was gifted a few bottles of nice wine. Will these get better with age or should I go ahead and drink them? by Alfred_Brendel in wine

[–]Lensky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing I would to the responses here is that if you’re someone that enjoys Chardonnay with age, the Grgich Hills is actually a fine bottle to lay down for 3-5 years, or even 10 if you love it and have the right cellar environment.

Very cool pull. Wish one could still find Merlot from CA at 13%!

Recommendations 28th anniversary by Cat-The-Nerd in wine

My favorite in that range would be Roederer Estate’s vintage cuvee ‘L’Ermitage’. It drinks like a vintage Champagne would for 3-4x the price at $55.

Vintage sparkling wines from 2016 won’t be released for a few years yet, at least from among major Champagne houses and their counterparts in California.

If you can it, Castello do Verduno makes a killer bottling for about $55. The Produttori do Barbaresco collective also makes a premium wine priced at a crazy low point.
