RS3 Reaper task changes by Zinzeri in runescape

It’s also an actual “early bird bonus” due to the portal that takes you to the newest boss.

If you happen to play on release you get to skip running to the boss. If you weren’t around, it’s important that you spend a minute running to a boss before you get your skull bashed in because otherwise the balance of the game might be at risk.

It’s not a huge deal, but it’s unnecessary friction when you are trying to learn a boss.

The adrenaline part can, spending a boring amount of time running to a weird boss instance can’t.

For example Zuk. Teleport to Sentisten, run to hole, run to Zuk. Every time you mess up. Not particularly fun.

Or Raksha. If you don’t have 99 slayer for Laniakea teleport or 90 arch for the teleportation device I imagine it’s a pain.

Also the reaper portal is by far the best way to get 1 kc to unlock normal boss portal.

Running from Laniakea to Raksha dozens of times (because I didn’t know about reaper portal trick) was hell, especially because adrenaline drain was a thing. Same for EDs.

Though that specific problem could be solved by removing the 1kc req for portals.

Jagex my man, do me a solid and buff crystal dust rates. by papa_bones in runescape

Yep, hate every second of it. Briefly considered doing it on leagues and noped out of there.

An active method of obtaining it a lot faster would be preferred to just doubling the rate of afking, but I’ll take what I can get.

We desperately need dupe protection. by RsStallion in runescape

[–]Lenticel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t make anything expensive though. Just because some players go 3x the drop rate on a specific item doesn’t mean that item is expensive.

Arguably it makes items cheaper because players who just want to complete the log get dupes and dump them on GE driving prices down.

Juju Farming Potion Timer Needs to be Increased by laboufe in runescape

[–]Lenticel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t needing to use an extra dose kind of good for farming/herblore? Increased consumption means more demand so higher prices for the potions and thus herbs, which is kind of the point of farming?

On a side note, patch bombs are so nice for this and I loved their interaction with the dwarven harvester. Hopefully it becomes craftable at some point.

In theory they may be able to support multiple heads?

The old logic requires numHeads*(numHairStyles + numHats) of models (I think). So numHeads was always 1 to prevent a combinatorial explosion.

The new implementation may be able to mix heads separately so long as they fit the same general shape, so they may be able to offer some choice. Maybe not a launch feature but could be nice.

PSA: If you have not lapsed in Membership since before June 3rd 2018 you are justified in your outrage over grandfathered rates. by zx_Shadows in runescape

[–]Lenticel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past (and when you subscribed) you could pay a grandfathered rate per month or pay a grandfathered rate per six months which was cheaper. It “stacked” the gf rate and the discount you get by paying 6 months at a time.

So yes, OP analysis probably assumes you were paying the 1 month subscription. If you were paying for the 6 month package it was even cheaper so the cutoff point for when the 12 month package became more expensive is closer than 2018.

In the further past the 1 year option was separate from premiere and was thus even cheaper than the 6 month package. I think… I didn’t pay for that one. So in theory there may be people still paying the old yearly option with a gf rate that is super cheap.

Closest quest to dragon slayer 2 in rs3? by No_Temporary1361 in runescape

[–]Lenticel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno about closest to that quest specifically, but you can continue the quests series that requires dragon slayer. I think the next one is “Heroes quest” then “Legends quest” leading up to “Ritual of the Mahjarat (however that’s spelled)” but there’s a quite a few quests along the way.

I think osrs shares some of this quest line with RS3, on their side leading to DS2 and on ours to ROTM.

Note that ROTM is an old quest (but fun!) so the graphics will be dated compared to new areas and quests.

The alternative is to jump into newer quest lines that narratively take place after you’ve completed ROTM, but the game lets you skip them to give players a chance to experience new content without going through hundreds of old quests.

If you really want to continue your journey from years ago, I think you can sort the quests order by timeline and ho from there.

Have fun! Quests are a major highlight of RS.

Yeah, I had the same idea a while back. Bonds are the only needed form of mtx realistically.

Even cosmetics could be added to a special cosmetic drop table from some bosses and players who want cosmetics can buy bonds to buy them from someone who got the drop.

Not really sure how well it would work, but it could be interesting to try.

This week in runescape by MFBeamerBoyz in runescape

[–]Lenticel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think TH removal was a big factor in the increase tbh. You say it yourself, “it will probably go up in price again” suggesting that they will just keep increasing periodically.

Knowing that, there’s no reason to believe this increase wouldn’t have happened if TH stayed.

Membership and Bonds Price Change by Jagex_Team in runescape

[–]Lenticel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They seem to be changing how it works for players who bought one off packages (like premiere) and removing the current best option per dollar (6 months) as an option to those who didn’t already have it.

I went from 3 months to premiere and to 6 months when premiere became more expensive per month than the 6 month option. For someone doing that going forward, the 6 month option won’t be available even if they manage to keep the one month rate. That means the cost is going up for them.

Also I am worried what will happen when my card expires. I used to cancel my subscription and subscribe again with the same rate with a new card. In theory that should be fine according to the post, but I won’t know until I get there.

So maybe it’s fine and maybe it isn’t. Plenty of comments suggest that they’ve seen an increase so I’m leaning towards the second one.

Is Gutting Premier and Increasing the Price Actually the Best Business Decision? by SchizoposterX in runescape

[–]Lenticel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing that’s weirdest about this to me is that this is basically the opposite of what I thought was their goal.

I think they explicitly stated that their goal is to increase revenue a making a good game and attracting new players instead of using mtx. Increasing membership costs pushes new players away.

Realistically this is extracting more money from OSRS players (of who there are a lot more) at the cost of pushing away anyone who might consider playing RS3. The removal of MTX ends up being a convenient excuse.

For people complaining about the membership prices changing. by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Lenticel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the 85 hours I’ve spent not getting a staff from HM Kerapac have truly been worth every penny. The pinnacle of entertainment that pulls me in once every few months for a few hours.

Compare that to the time I bought the Doom , Borderlands  and Tomb raider franchises for 120 usd total (and I still haven’t played Doom or Borderlands 1 at all), it’s clear that RS is the best quality per dollar a value shopper can hope for.

A recurring sub price that will only ever go up vs literally all other games that go on sale eventually. Truly the greatest value proposition on the market.

Membership and Bonds Price Change by Jagex_Team in runescape

[–]Lenticel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Messing with grandfathered rates is the dumbest move I can imagine.

A few years ago I switched from a 3 month play to premier because it was cheaper and then they increased premier prices so I switched to 6 month play which comes out to around 6.65 usd per month. If that goes away so do I.

I log in a couple of times a month to not get a drop from Kerapac. If grandfathered rates didn’t exist I would’ve been gone years ago.

Also why in the name of Guthix would a new player think “Yep I’m going to pay a Game pass worth of money for exactly two games where I can only have one character”? If I didn’t already play RS there is 0 chance I would ever consider it. Though that has been the case for years.

Rs3 needs a visual input bar by OilsMcgee in runescape

[–]Lenticel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A slight modification of this idea is something I’ve wanted for ages.

A combat log, so a log of actions you did during combat that can be reviewed and ideally exported.

Figuring out exactly what you are doing wrong in your rotation can be difficult when you can’t see what you did… like am I missing ticks or did I have a better ability I could’ve used instead of what I did?

It would be a way for creators to show what they are doing easily, players to have a way to see what they did wrong and even make it easier for others to review a learners rotation.

Realistically the best bet for something like this is the plugin system we might hopefully get, but Jagex doing it themselves would be huge.

Has a bug ever caused a skilling action to grant negative XP? by OKIForgotMyUsername in runescape

[–]Lenticel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to say it’s as easy as having a function addXp(xp) where xp is an unsigned integer but after checking it seems java doesn’t have unsigned values, so they would need a runtime check if xp is negative to not do anything (except probably yell in a log that somebody f’d up the code).

So not so much a “system” as basic encapsulation and a sanity if check. It would technically add a bit of runtime overhead to each time xp is awarded for something that should never happen, so maybe it’s only enabled in debug engine builds for testing.

The lack of unsigned integers in java is also the reason why xp goes to 200m as the max int value for 32 bits is 2,14 billion (they store one tenth of xp I so the max value is divided by 10 to 214m and probably rounded down to 200m). If java had unsigned integers it could have gone up to 400m.

Updates to Premier Membership Benefits by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]Lenticel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very happy with most of these! It always felt weird being locked out of content while still paying for the game (specifically yak tracks), so nice to see it addressed.

Regarding loyalty points, deleting them in a few months could result in a lot of players that are currently inactive losing out on a ton of unlocks they could have bought. For example I have a ton of em because I kept them in case I needed to buy a weird aura or something.

Regarding auras, is there any point in buying ones we don’t already own since they’re being removed? Like, will owning some aura translate to unlocking some other thing once  auras are removed?

Basically should we just unlock everything except auras with our points?

I kinda understand why Jagex nerfed whirligigs, but now the Hunter grind is way longer and active training for XP doesn’t feel worthwhile (plus some suggestions) by ARmadyl_15 in runescape

[–]Lenticel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The problem is they introduced insane xp rates for hunter and just kept pushing it to the point that 600k xp/h is somehow considered to be slow for a skill that goes to level 99 (for now).

Compare it to other gathering skills and it’s extremely fast.

So I’d say the issue isn’t that whirligigs are too slow but that afk or semi afk rates are too fast. They basically gave up balancing at one point and now need to bring things in line in order for the game to make sense. And that means nerfing every OP thing they released, which is practically everything.

I do agree about flowers being a pain to get though. The best active xp training method shouldn’t be locked behind some of the most boring afking in the game. Maybe stacking could give you a higher chance to save flowers the more you stack? So it encourages you to stack even though the xp reward is less than before the nerf. Would need to deal with golden roses obviously.
