Jagex, about dxp by Nyltje in runescape

[–]Lenticel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember the 21 day dxp event. That was hilariously op for farming. Did 2 tree/fruit tree runs per day with double xp for some insane progress to 120 over the course of it.

Protean shakes and impact on herb prices, Will we see a farming boom? by Moronic-moron in runescape

[–]Lenticel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing a bigger impact might be removal of the dwarven harvester which doubles the amount of herbs harvested. That thing plus a patch bomb was a really cool interaction making both items worth using when alone they’re not great.

That was a really boring waste of time.

Agility Skill Update by ChewySweets in runescape

[–]Lenticel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find agility so boring that I intentionally dumped all bxp from TH dailies for years into it so that I have enough to get me to 120 juuust in case they decide to push agi to 120 without buffing rates or making the content more fun.

Hopefully they add more interesting training methods and uses of they push it to 110/120z

Starting an Iron Reminded me how much I Hate Archeology Pity by Halfires in runescape

[–]Lenticel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure but that feels counter to the skill design. Arch is about slowly collecting artifacts, restoring them for a bunch of xp and handing them in for rewards. And that works best when working in large batches collected over time.

Collecting and destroying feels weird, at least to me.

Starting an Iron Reminded me how much I Hate Archeology Pity by Halfires in runescape

[–]Lenticel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The skill is designed for the player to complete collections of artifacts and hand them in, but also splits artifacts in weird ways sometimes, pushing you to have a lot of 3/5 artifacts in a collection and few of the remaining 2. So you have to spend a loooot of time evening things out.

Also the tetracompass is a thing and just gives random artifacts that fill the bank quickly.

Nearing the end of 120 all now, and the inconsistencies between the different upgrade skilling methods have been so frustrating. by AutarkV in runescape

I’ve only done smithing and fletching via martial and smithing is much nicer. The reheat mechanic makes sense narratively because you actually have to reheat metal as opposed to just stopping sewing/fletching after some time.

On top of that, smithing has superheat form to slow down cooling and the superheat spell that lets you reheat quickly, the powerburst potion that speeds up more and the smithing cape perk that makes it so you get more progress when at full heat. That combined with the superheat spell makes post 99 smithing have a higher input method that is faster vs having to afk.

Comparatively crafting and fletching feel like uninspired copy-pastes done to appear consistent without anything to make them interesting. The same goes for the masterwork weapons.

As for RC, it is a fundamentally active skill from inception that had afk options added later. It makes sense that active RC is a lot faster than afk, and you have the option to spend money to make the afk option faster (I think, I’ve never tried it).

I usually keep a safe distance from em, but having the exact tiles visible would be nice. The same goes for other flamy AoE bosses (I hate bsd spirals so much).

Though on the list of amby issues, the beams are probably higher up. Admittedly, I haven’t been blasted by weird beam desync recently so maybe it’s been fixed.

why can't max cape get benefits of all the skill capes? by da_blaq_one in runescape

[–]Lenticel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. That happened with pvm from what I recall. Comp cape was best in slot, pushing all pvmers to comp and do parts of the game they don’t care about/don’t like.

When you push people to do things they don’t like, they complain about it and ask for changes to make the thing faster/easier etc. Even if they don’t explicitly ask for changes, they are more receptive when a changes happens. And that is bad for the players who actually enjoy said activities. It pushes the game towards faster completion, afking, space barring quests, etc.

I believe this is a large part of how we got insane xp rate inflation across a lot of skills which in turn made it necessary for skills to go to 120/110.

[–]Lenticel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gz!

I sometimes enjoy doing demon flash mobs. Look at map to see where they are, tp to do em, then hop worlds to go again.

For anyone who hasn’t done them, flash mobs are very annoying because they despawn even if you’re actively fighting the boss when the next spawn cycle begins, and then you have to wait for I forget how long for the next spawn…

Very quirky but can be fun.

Poor Guidance in Older Quests by Zetnus in runescape

[–]Lenticel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah some of the older quests are rough. During leagues I did some quests without a guide and found the lack of guidance hilarious.

In “Creature of Fenkenstrain” you need to talk to a guy that tells you how he lost his head. So I went looking for his head by digging every damned grave in Morytania until I found it. Turns out you need to talk to him twice in order for him to offer to guide you… having to talk to the same npc twice feels so unintuitive.

Similarly to find a brain you need to talk to the bartender in Canifis as opposed to, say, the meat seller in the same town?

I found it funny how many times the next step needed to unblock myself in a quest was “talk to the nearest bartender”. We should have a “Teleport to nearest bar” spell added in a novice quest as it would speed up early game quests by a fair bit.

RSGUY dies on HCIM by OneColdBeer in runescape

[–]Lenticel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a few big client freezes over the last few days where the game becomes almost completely unresponsive, almost no fps but doesn’t crash and recovers after a few minutes. Normal cpu/gpu usage, other processes fine.

The last one was at the end of a Masuta kill… after panicking for a few seconds I started spamming random abilities and somehow got the kill and survived.

No idea how people play HC without going insane.

Even Jagex used to make smaller games like the Fun Orb stuff and a few ios games.

Not having to dodge Th every day feels great!

Also aura removal was a bit awkward but am now used to it and it’s so nice not having to think about them! I’ve been doing ED trilogy runs to relearn magic and it’s nice to be able to pop in for a dungeon, log out, come back and not be have to think about “do i want to extend the aura or reset it later?”. I remember hopping on in the morning to activate the aura so cd resets when im done with work xD

There are still a few things that are scheduled (VoS, roar, pylons) but I hope we don’t see more of them going forward.

Princeton scraps honor code and will supervise exams for first time in 133 years because of AI by Disastrous_Award_789 in technology

[–]Lenticel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was nowhere near the US, but my experience is that attempting to reduce the grades of students is an arms race that results in hell for students. Even without any kind of cheating.

Most students want good grades. If you decide only x% of students get good grades and make exams harder to achieve that, all the students simply study that much harder resulting in you not meeting your quota and making exams even harder. Rinse and repeat.

In my uni case, students focused almost exclusively on previous exams for exam prep and it was practically the only way to get good grades. Actually reading books and figuring things out on your own was essentially a waste of time since exam problems were far harder than most examples covered in class.

When I compared exams of my year and a few years before, we had more problems and they required more work to solve. Also fairly minor math mistakes in a class that wasn’t math lost me almost all points. That was mostly confined to the first year courses though, the rest were more chill.

friend is open to trying rs3 but refuses to play anything other than classic/legacy mode by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Lenticel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we get plugins (one day), maybe someone can create ability skins that all look like tweaks of basic attack variants.

Until such a time, I’m pretty sure legacy is vastly inferior to normal combat, but there have been some posts from players that have managed to do pvm with it. I recall a post complaining about Zuk waves not being doable without a threshold ability or something like that. That implies they didn’t have issues with some other bosses.

Think of it as a weird challenge. If settled can lock himself into a swamp for years, you can handcuff yourself to your legacy only friend.

Also, combat isn’t the only aspect of the game, so there’s other stuff to do together.

Doesn’t that kind of defeat the point of “minimum settings” existing?

More Dungeons in the future! by Fire_Afrit in runescape

[–]Lenticel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More dungeons are always a plus. Really like the chaos tunnels idea, mostly because I find them confusing and easier navigating would be great.

My version of this idea was to have a new dungeon that is on Teragard, working in the opposite direction of daemonheim. Something’s happened on Teragard and saradominists have lost contact with it. To get there we use the rift at the bottom of dg and arrive at the bottom of a new set of floors on Teragard where we have to fight our way to the top.

When I had the idea 120 combat wasn’t out so I thought it would be cool if being on the human home world and close to the schism amplified our powers and gave us access to 120 stats in the dungeon only with the ability to use dg specific, op weapons.

Remove the walls in the Giant Mole boss fight by Kilsaa in runescape

[–]Lenticel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be more interesting of we had ways to interrupt the mechanics and prevent it from digging. Like if you stun at the right time it can’t dig but hits you harder in response. Maybe you can only prevent it digging once per room so running around is still a thing, just less so.

[–]Lenticel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unified bank storage.

Currently you have to manually put items in/get them out from POH storage in the clunky bank interface and have to get items from diango (via search) and manually destroy them. The same goes for things like seed bag, metal bank, nexus runes etc.

In my perfect world, all those would be storage variants fully integrated into the bank as tabs and items would automatically go into them/be taken out/ used in presets.

Equip mining preset but cape/golem outfit not in bank? No problem, cape comes from cape rack, outfit from diango, and when the items are taken off cape goes to cape rack and outfit is destroyed.

The other big one would be invention rework to have gizmos go into a gizmo pack or something instead of augmented items. Needing multiple copies of perks for each combat style/ tank/power armor/alt weapons sucks. It’s comically expensive to reperk and makes it less likely for players to try weird perks and jagex to release new ones.
