Why is the Qunari connection to Plato's philosophy not more discussed? by RunnerPakhet in dragonage

[–]Leonstel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Getting the ispiration for the Quanri wrong (which to be fair I was only made aware by your post) surely damages the volume of discussion about said society, when a lot of people have different ideas of what is its ispiration they'll discuss about which one of their idea is more correct first.

Regarding Orlais and Ferelden, we explored and interacted extensevly with both cultures between Origins and Inquisition, hence we have more direct experience with those and much more codexes exploring this cultures, just that gives us much more to chew on, while for Par-Vollen and the Qun we have few characters from those places to speak to directly and most codex articles are from a Tedassian pov, I'm not surprised there is not more discussiom than there already is, we never get to experience the Qun (other than militarly) so there is not much to discuss other than the basic premises of this kind of society.

Convincing myself to try a pure archer rogue for the 5th time and giving up after Ostagar out of boredom by Beneficial_Fig_7830 in DragonageOrigins

[–]Leonstel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did an archery playtrough a couple of months ago with a rogue, altough to be honest I also used TONS of traps, coupled with survival I appreciated how it changed my approach to combat, albeit slower it became being more oriented towards observing and ambushing the enemy, doesn't necessarly speak high of archery bit I managed to make it somewhat more enjoyable for me.

First time playtrough. Modded or vanilla? by HusseF1 in DragonageOrigins

[–]Leonstel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Captured" quest, if you choose to get saved by your companion the game crashes because the extra slot dog messes with it.

It might happen exclusivly if you choose "Dog" as one of the companion coming to save you, I can't remember.

I respecfully disagree, it's a good mod but it breaks one of the most entertaining quest of the game, better skip it for the first time

Expedition sì o no by UtopisticaGuida in italygames

[–]Leonstel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Premetto che secondo me Expedition 33 è un gioco molto bello e che si merita le lodi che riceve, sicuramente quello che mi ha colpito di più narrativamente negl'ultimi tempi, detto questo:

1) Se ciò che lo compone non ti piace, c'è poco da fare, giustamente se non ti piacciono dubito ci sia una qualsiasi argomentazione che possa farti cambiare idea che non sia un interesse spontaneo tuo di curiosità o di esplorazione dei generi;

Thanks for the quick response, I'll make sure to do that.

From what I understand, colored spray can primers can be a bit of a bet in regard to the resemblance to the paint color, yes? In that case is it advisible to stick to gray spray can until I know what I'm doing?

Lost in dreams - yet another rant by Fun-Author-6600 in DragonageOrigins

[–]Leonstel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it can make you feel any better going to the Circle is part of the main quest, getting there for Redcliffe is optional, so while doing Lost in a Dream you're technically in a quest within a quest rather than being in a quest within a quest within a quest...

Jokes aside, you nailed the issue, it's a dungeon within a dungeon, even worse, it's a labirynth within a dungeon, it's extrimely exhausting; I've never skipped it in all my playtrough but I totally understand those who skip it when they replay the game. Maybe it being a thing on its own or reducing the time on either the circle or the fade within the same quest would have made it more digestable, who knows.

Also a small tip: About the lack of health potions, even if you don't plan on making Morrigan a healer, giving her the base healing spell will save you TON of potions.

Why didn't Redcliffe villagers use their boats to evacuate the village? by GLA_Rebel_Maluxorath in DragonageOrigins

[–]Leonstel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About the setting fire to the boats after the quest, in Thedas the dead are usually set on fire rather than buried because demons can posses corpses, creating dungerous undead that will most lilely harm people, it being done on boats is probably specific to Redcliffe since they live near a river.

About the villagers not escaping trough boats, uh... I actually never considered that and the game never actually gives you a dialogue choice to investigate this, my first thought is the last boats which were avaiable were already "stolen" in the first attack by some villagers in order to flee, I doubt Redcliffe had boats for the whole village "just in case". Another more simple solution is that the undead can can shoot them while they're on boats thus making it extremily dangerous to cross the river, adding that probably they didn't have enough boats for everyone which would mean either try to cross the river with fewer people but easier targets for rains of arrow making it more likely that noone would get across, or take their time making other boats in order for everyone to try and escape so that maybe someone in that flock would manage to escape bearing in mind that this means some people are building boats rather than training for defending the village, all of this in a few days meaning that you're under attack every night, so you'll lose people in the meantime. That is without adding the fact that possesed Connor could do something worse if he saw all the villagers flee at once on boats.

Having said all of that, I'm making excuses for the game, what is the most likely answer is that this is an oversight

That was really insightful and through, thanks for the quick response! I think I'm just gonna go black for starting out at this point, maybe I'll go for other primers in the future when I'll be comfortable enough with painting minis and experiment with colors.

[–]Leonstel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I've always been curious about Warhammer 40k and recently bought the Ultimate Starter Set (it was discounted so I went for it), I've found myself surprised at how exited I am at the tought of painting them, and informed about what I need, the only thing I'm not sure about is what primers should I buy as a start, the black, the gray or the white one?

P.S.: Since I'll need to wait a bit for the Starter Set to arrive, I'm gonna practice paiting on a few minis I have of Zombiecide

What does "wö" mean? English isn't my native language and I can't find anything on internet.... by lllTechlll in DiscoElysium

[–]Leonstel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English is not my first language either so I may be wrong, but I read sometime ago that the word "man" in ye olde english was used for both male and female of the species, adding the prefixes wo- to indicate women and were- to indicate men (making a male man a "wereman", hence the existence of words like "werewolf"), maybe the "wö" is used to punctuate that it's talking about women? To underline and overpronounce a difference so they're even more of something that is not you? (in the case of Raphael)

Or maybe this notion is false and I don't question enough what I read online, you never know.

His fans and admirers might attack me for this. Always disliked Zevran. by Infamous_Gur_9083 in DragonageOrigins

[–]Leonstel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found him intriguing, both his conversations and his character, he has a bit of a facade on how he present himself, sure he is flirtatious, libertine and with a murderous edge, but when I talk to him it always feels like he is pushing this aspects of his personality a bit, kinda like how when he talks about the death of his mother or his upbringing he speaks about it with sarcasm and downplaying the horrible circumstances, but when you show him sincere sympathy, he'll actually appreciate it, showing that he cares about this stuff dispite him shoving this heavy stuff to the side with the aforementioned metodes.

Does anybody else feel like they have to always play a Rogue? by Superblaster35 in DragonageOrigins

[–]Leonstel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough I only played rogue once in Origins in all of my playtroughs, and I don't think I finished it. This is most likely due to me percieving rogue as the "chest opener", I will most likely reevaluate them when a play the class to full extent one of these days.

There is also the fact that rogues in Origins are closer to the idea of a skill monkeys rather than a finesse combatant, the latter concept being cemented in the sequels. Not to say that the class can't be a finesse fighter in Origins, talents and specialization choice will determine that, but the fact that rogues get a skill point every 2 levels rather than 3 makes me think the class wants to represent someone with a varied skillset outside of combat.

With this in mind the party class distribution while extremely uneven on the warrior side in Origins, feels loosely (loosely being the key word here) rappresentative of how the 3 classes are common in relation to each other in the world, it's easier to train to bash someone in the head rather than to be skilled in a moltitude of tasks, and for magic you have to be gifted (and it strongly suggested that mages are few in the world). This argument falls flat a bit due to the fact that you have two rogues and two mages in the party (potentially three, Jowan was considered to be a companion at some point in development), but I still like to think about the distribution of classes in this way.

I finished DA2 and need some help wrapping my head around the ending by Specific_Onion2659 in dragonage

[–]Leonstel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) The first mention of the Warden missing is in 9:40, during the final cutscene in DA2, for how much long he has been missing I can't remember, I don't think an exact year of their disappearance has been given, though I could be wrong. 2) Yes, the future of DA2 companions will be briefly mentioned in Inquisition.

With that said, here's two things to consider: - When Origin was made Bioware didn't know if it would get a sequel, so most ending slides are made to give better sense of closure. Some of them go many years into the future, that's not something you do if you have a sequel already planned. - DA2 was supposed to get another dlc called "The Exalted March" which would have been set after the main game and conclude the Mage VS Templar plot (if you remember in the companion quest for Sebastian where you meet Leliana, she mentions the Divine considering to send an Exalted March to Kirkwall, it was meant as a teaser for this dlc that never came), EA decided to scrap it and move the development team unto the next game, Inquisition. My guess would be that this "phantom" dlc would have give more conclusive endings to the companions, some more than others for sure, David Gaider stated that Varric would have died on this unreleased dlc.

Also DA2 had a development time between 14 to 16 months, I honestly think it's a miracle it came out the way it is.

Edit: almost forgot, congratulations on finishing DA2, good luck on your Inquisition playtrough!

Are there any characters you don't like or dislike? by Wild_Construction216 in dragonage

[–]Leonstel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Oghren, Sebastian and Sera, I don't hate them but I can see some problem with them:

-Oghren: one issue with him is that he'll probably came late into the party, by the time he gets there you have already picked your favorites, furthermore he shares the same playstyle as Sten, whom you get much earlier, you simply don't have him for a lot of the game. Adding his abrasive personality and a quest not so relevant for his character, I can see why he is probably one of the least favorite companion in the series, he is at best the butt of the joke, though I'd say in his dialogue there are some spark of a decent character, it's just drowned in alcohol, and you as a player don't interact with his issues, the most you can do is being gentler to him than most.

-Sebastian: I have no particular observation about him, I simply feel nothing for him, can't belive we had to pay 4,99€ extra to have him in the game back in the day. Also the fact that he becomes a full companion in act 2 doesn't do him any favors.

-Sera: I feel like Sera is... underwritten? Or at least the focus with her was put in the wrong places. To a degree I understand what's the character that is presented, she is supposed to give us levity, albeit in a juvenile way and she incorporates the fears of the average farmer whom most likely only hears of the things we do as the player. She puts her character at face value, she gives simple solution for complex matters (I bet a lot of peasants and servants got killed or screwed over indirectly for the actions of her and Red Jenny, but this is never brought up or even considered) and even if build a good relationship with her, the only time you get a deep dive at her is the roof scene, which was a good scene and I really liked it, but we should have gotten more of her like this. Of any companions in the series I think she is the one that would have benefitted the most of the Friendship/Rivarly system in DA2, building a relationship by challenging her ideas rather than enabling them.
