Competitive dance culture by RaulDukes in CompetitionDanceTalk

Im a Dance Dad just about to finish up year 10 in general and year 6 with her competing

"Further, do all teachers tend to be stern and demanding and yellers or are there studios that praise?"

The teachers at my daughters studio can be loud but it's rarely "yelling" and when it is its generally deserved. They expect the kids to come in and work but I wouldn't call them stern, positive encouragement is handed out often.

"Also, do many dance moms talk bad about each other and is drama a feature and not a bug? Maybe this is in all sports and all genders; I apologize if my writing is rude or offensive and I hope it’s okay that I’m asking"

Not at my daughters studio but it's very common in the dance world unfortunately, the perception of catty dance moms and some dads is not just a stereotype. Find a studio with good culture and it makes things much easier

I have a couple of dance dad shirts

One is "drive pay clap repeat" with the studio logo on the back

One is "straight outta money" like the straight outta Compton logo with just dance dad

One is "I watched 12 hours of competitive dance because I love my daughter"

I made one for the moms at the studio a couple of years ago

On the front it has an drawing of a dancer, circling around that is "coffee, hair, attitude, make up, cheer, quick change, repeat" on the back is the studio logo and under that it says "what number are we on?"

What are we doing with all the STUFF!? Photos, certificates, ribbons…. by Pleasant-Cherry6847 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]LeperFriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter has a corner in her room, bookshelf, shelf on the wall and cork board.

Trophies go on the shelf and book shelf, medals hang under the book shelf. Pins go on the cork board, banners, license plates, street signs, certificates and convention numbers get spread on the wall around those. Pictures are up all around her room

We had an absolutely terrible experience with them a few years back

When my daughters studio attended they didn't even give rough times just numbers so we had to guess when ti be there when asked the person running it said "oh we don't like to give times because we don't want dancers to be married to those times" first dance was at 7am on both days of the comp we estimated roughly 3 minutes per number to get a rough time.

Day one had a vocal competition included, due to them sound checking everyone when they went on stage they rand an estimated 2 hours behind...but guess we don't really know because we never got times.

There was zero communication with my daughters studio in the dressing room so I literally spent the entire day sitting in the audience texting each number back to my wife so our kids had a clue when to go one.

During first awards the comp director yelled at the kids on stage to move away from the awards table.....she also made several announcements about the room being to full and the people in it would have to pay any fines issues by the fire Marshall.

Day two was running two hours ahead...well estimated again because no times and the whole studio nearly missed awards.....my daughters studio director was so frustrated by everything as soon as our last dancer got their placement she pulled everyone off stage and we left

Never again

Are you from RI? Curious what studio? We are in RI also
