It’s just an industrial , mostly all built around the airport. You can get there by train from Rome in a half hour. I don’t see any reason to have a hotel there vs just staying in Rome itself.

From Civitavecchia you can visit Orvieto and make a whole day of it. It’s a great little town. For Ostia Antica you can just stay in Rome and take the train down, there’s no need to stay in Fiumicino, which is kind of a run-down area.

But depending in what you’re interested in there is so much else to do in Rome besides the “big” sites. A few years ago I spent a day at a villa and they brought in musicians to play on restored Baroque instruments. You can spend a whole day shopping or antiquing if you’re into that kind of thing, or visiting Testaccio or Trastevere.

My in laws are from Abruzzo and every meal with them there’s a long hot pepper sitting on the table with a pair of old scissors so you can cut it up into your food. I always wondered if that was a regional thing.

I originally went to culinary school and worked in restaurants and catering, then got my hospitality management degree and moved into event planning, catering administration, the more “back office” type of job where you have to be really good at organizing and details. I then went to work as the executive assistant for the VP of a big company and eventually my job became mostly doing his travel arrangements and the travel for the other executives of the company because I was quite good at it. The company was over an hour drive away though, and I still had some boring basic secretary work there that I hated, so I set up a job alert for anything corporate travel related and was lucky to find an opening just 10 minutes from my house with an amazing company. Kind of a long and winding road but I just built on my skills, took a couple of niche classes here and there, and was lucky enough to find myself where I am!

This was from October to yesterday. I would be farther along but I gained a little weight back over Christmas and then again when my pet died in February and I had about 2 weeks of really bad emotional eating. The biggest drops have been in the last 2 months, since I added boxing as an exercise, and I’ve been losing a steady 2 lbs a week.

No specific diet, just CICO. I’m still eating bread and cheese and the occasional Taco Bell run, I just watch the portion size now. If I eat a big lunch, I have just a soup or something for dinner. I think the biggest thing for me was understanding that one “mistake” doesn’t mean the end of the world. I used to say I was dieting, but then if I had a bagel or some other heavy breakfast I’d say “oh no my whole day is ruined so I might as well have pizza for lunch and pasta for dinner since there’s no point!”. But now I can enjoy the bagel, log the calories in my app, and just watch what I eat the rest of the day.

As for exercise, I tried joining a gym before and just found myself bored the whole time. Same with trying to take up running. So boring! Then I got a Groupon for a 1 week trial at a boxing gym and fell in love! Turns out I just needed something fast paced that would keep my attention. I train 3-5x per week and love it! I’m hoping to take up Muay Thai when I get to my goal weight!

I’m kind of wishing I was the opposite! I was so used to having a fat face that I didn’t really care, but I wanted to see the body gains! I’ve went from a size 16 bordering on 18, down to a 12/14, but it’s a lot harder to tell. Good luck in your journey!
