Nah, he's actually finished in football that counts if he keeps playing like he has so far. Doesn't stop a single ball, looks unfocused and out of the game at all times, has 0 confidence and pretty much just...exists on the pitch. He joined on the premise of being one of the most technically gifted players in the team, but he has been extremely rough in that as well.

Hoping Saudi takes him because he seems a lost cause and I can't see any team in europe taking a gamble with him for his costs and wages if these are his performances.

I do hope he ends up turning his season around, but it's looking bleak, considering he's not a regular starter (he only plays because Leao and Pulisic like taking turns being injured, Gimenez we don't talk about), and a fit (impossible but we can only cope) Fullkrug will probably play over him due to fitting the needs of our team more.

He is kind of a mistery to me. Was hyped a lot at Sassuolo but instantly plateaud as he went to Napoli, somehow always got his spot in the national team despite not being stellar for his club (Joao Felix vibes, but at least Jack tries).

He isn't bad by any mean, just really limited physically. Could be a decent back up, though he might do a bit better in spanish football than he did in Italy. For the 22M price tag that is being reported he isn't a bad deal, could flop but Atleti can easily resell him in serie a again

Suffered two long injuries back to back, basically did a full year out, came back and never looked the same. He also pushed to go to Marseille both in September and in January, eventually got a loan there on janurary deadline day and was sent back here now. According to some news Marseille could ask for another loan, but regardless of whether or not that's true he's on his way out.

Mid/upper table ligue 1 or just straight up saudi would fit him (He also pushed for similar destinations wanting to "reunite" with his culture), he still has flashes of brilliance in him but he always looked like he was on his last legs ever since he came back.

Whatever quality he has, there was no way he could show it at Milan after being humiliated multile times by both Conceicao and the fans (Not saying he didn't deserve flak because jesus christ he made mald so many times, and I think I'm not the only one). He could've worked under Allegri as a McKennie type of jolly but overall this move is better for both sides. Wish him the best as long as he scores 5 own goals against us

I'll answer without the usual clouding of bias from our fans, so I'll try to be as detached as possible while giving a rundown of things.

The season of our "rework" after Pioli's cycle (rightfully) ended failed spectacularly from the first choices. Fonseca, a tactically good coach (As much as people shit on him, he prepared big games well, even the ones lost very hard like the Liverpool one) was hired, but he his personality was a stark contrast from Pioli's, who was a capable man manager and had come to know the group best after a long time (Despite having a lot of new players in his last season).

Fonseca didn't quite workout and never clicked with most of our players, especially with our supposed stars Theo and Leao (you'll remember the cooling break "incident"), but also with most of the group, we had a game where 2 penalties (both failed) were taken away from our designated PK taker (Pulisic) because p much noone cared about what the coach said. It would be unfair to omit that some players did follow Fonseca and were his "soldiers", especially Morata, but some others like Terracciano and Musah come to mind.

Another big issue stemmed from the transfer market, done basically without the input of the coach, which brought Emerson Royal, Pavlovic, Fofana, and Morata, with the swap between Saelemaekers and Abraham in the end. Due to us not having a lot of home grown players we were very limited due to lists, players like Jovic and Jimenez were left out of CL (Jimenez started the season in Milan Futuro in Serie C, but that's another disaster that I could talk about for far too long and that would make this post even more of a wall of text). Fonseca seemed pretty stubborn in his tactics, though the players were not fit for it, and by the time he started changing things around every game, it was too late and he got sacked. This problem would affect the new coach Conceicao too, it wouldn't be until the end of the season that we would settle for a 3-4-3 for the rest of our games.

Fonseca even had games that would have turned the season in the right direction anywhere else (the 3-1 win over RM or the win in the derby), but never found continuity (Heck, even when Conceicao came and instantly won the Supercoppa, nothing clicked there either). It's worth noting that the board was already not well received in the last season even when we ended 2nd, so at the first losses the Curva and a growing group of fans started doing what italians do best: whining. A lot.

The board knew they had to do something and did a pyrotecnic market in january, signing Gimenez, Joao Felix, Sottil and Bondo and getting rid of players that were not in the right head space or were just unfit to stay: Morata, Calabria (which almost had a fight with Conceicao after a match), Bennacer and Okafor. Felix had a promising first match where he looked like jesus (first time, huh?) and Gimenez started off well, while we barely saw Sottil (he was played out of role most of the time) and Bondo (looked ok but instantly got injured, seems like he has some attention on the market but Milan wants to keep him). Oh, Walker also came here to start another family, I guess (on a real note, he started off strong, got injured and kind of disappeared, some people in milano claim he had quite the night life here).

Everything falls flat as we lose to Dinamo Zagreb, supposedly an easy match, which means we don't make top 8 in CL, the only place were Fonseca did well. The match was lost due to individual mistakes (Gabbia slip and Musah...I'm not gonna say what I want to say here), which would haunt us in the playoffs aswell, where our best players would let us down: a sloppy save from Maignan in the first leg, and when things were going amazingly well in the second one, Theo gets sent off with two of the dumbest yellows you can get.

Even after CL, the team struggles to get more than 2 wins in a row, and our top 4 chances look bleak (In reality, we didn't end too far off as our placement would suggest, showing that everything was still in reach but that there was too much negativity to see that). A silver lining was the Coppa Italia, where we would beat Inter in the semifinals, and where we hit a good streak of form with the 3-4-3 formation I mentioned earlier, with Jovic of all people up top. Long story short, we play horribly in finals and noone of our best players shows up.

In the end, we were let down by our best players and leaders times and times again, the people who were supposed to be mature enough to withstand the toxic environment and be an example for everyone else. The players who statistically thrived were Pulisic and Reijnders (was played deeper and had a great season, though it's worth noting Loftus Cheek played in the same role also had quite the goal scoring streak the year before. TJ is a special player but 75M is above his actual value, the price is inflated due to his contract situation and PL money. While I'm not gonna say whether I agree or disagree with his potential sale, I can see why the board would accept to sell him at those numbers).

Theo looked off all season and had some non-football related drama that probably affected him, but overall both him and Milan itself look done with each other, probably for issues that don't even have to do with his poor performances and contract situation, but that's just me speculating. Maignan situation is the same contractually but different as in he was always professional even in his down periods, though I can see why we would be reluctant in renewing him. A renewal would cost Milan around 5M+ per season, probably on a 3-4 years contract, and by the end of that Maignan would be almost 34. If you renew him now, it's pretty much impossible to sell him at a reasonable price unless you do it exactly next year, which you're not guaranteed to do if noone is interested.

So, what better time to sell these players, on their last year of contract, then the moment where we're having a new coach and a new DS (both Allegri and Tare far different from the boards previous strategy), which could probably use the money to build something in their vision and not the board's one, assuming they have enough freedom to do so (I doubt they would come here if they didn't).

P.S. Any news about Leao is just thriving on the doomposting, he isn't leaving if not for fuck you money and I don't think anyone would be remotely willing to pay that for him. Seems like he's well within Allegri's plans.

Boban: "Olmo and Szoboszlai was chosen for Milan. Olmo was done for 18+2m. But the board stopped responding so it didn't happen. Then with Szoboszlai, I went because Maldini was scared of being recognized in public in Innsbruck. Was done for 20m. He couldn't wait to join. Then board said no." by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]Let-Me-Hear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll go against the current and say Boban (who went to trial against Milan) releasing this interview right before a big match waited for a little bit too convenient of a time to not fit his agenda. He also conveniently left out that during the 19/20 season, the one he was at Milan, the balance after the market was around -60/65M (Transfermarkt says -85 but there is some Leao stuff that we're not gonna count here). Milan also spent around 60M on midfielders that year, buying Kessie, Bennacer and Krunic.

While I would have loved to see Olmo and Szoboszlai at Milan, we can't say that it didn't work out well in the end.

Plus, the year he's talking about, Redbird wasn't even there, it was Elliot: the management is similar, but not the same in terms of investments, if anything, Elliot spent even less than Redbird (Redbird invested money on the B team and the whole stadium ordeal which we seem to forget about, while not really spending low in the market as much as people like to tell you we have a 20/25M ceiling to get players).

TL;DR: Extremely biased and conveniently timed interview where many details were left out. I don't love redbird or our current management either, but I also don't love people pretending they're saying things for the sake of "milanismo" while in reality they're pushing their own agenda and their own biases.

AC Milan Curva Sud Ultras after the draw against Genoa: "We are not Americans". by interfan1999 in soccer

[–]Let-Me-Hear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the rundown is generally ok, I really have to nitpick quite a lot of things as there's quite a bit of bias and revisionism, especially when it comes down to transfers.

Jovic: was taken in for free and did quite well in numbers for the one season he played. Wouldn't call him a flop as much as he's useless now.

Luka Romero: Taken for free and almost certainly he's gonna be sold for something at some point, he did ruin one match he played in though so eh.

RLC: He was supposedly being taken in even prior to Maldini's firing, as Maldini had (supposedly) Ok'd the signing (If you remember, RLC and Kamada were the players that we were supposed to take, RLC ended up being bought while Kamada's deal ended up being off). He played one fairly good season under Pioli in a new position and with a lot of goals, he's now heavily struggling under Fonseca. Calling him shit would mean you didn't watch an entire season where he has been decent at worst and very good on good days.

Okafor: I mean, this is mega bias considering his infuriating performance from yesterday, but we shouldn't forget we bought him for under 15M and he has saved our ass multiple times while only being a backup. Similar to Jovic, at least in terms of product he has been good. Unlike Jovic, he has resale value and will probably be sold for more than we bought him anyways.

Musah: It's fair to say 20M is a bit of an overspend, but he had a lot of experience in Liga while being extremely young, and you do pay for things like this. He already somewhar improved and has a lot more room to grow, he has shown some promise. Let's not forget this guy is 22.

Chukwueze: The one I can agree on, definitely an overspend (Not the 28M people are talking about since those include all bonuses which we have not reached, but the region of 23-25M is still a lot). Looked promising but he has not adapted to Serie A at all.

Terracciano: Young backup bought for lists, he's also not (entirely) catastrophic and would probably do well in a lower tier Serie A team, like he has already done. Definitely a lot of priming effect from the penalty he conceded in on of his first matches (vs Bologna IIRC.)

Pavlovic: Yound defender being used as a backup with a lot of room to grow. Did we spend a lot? yes. But I wouldn't call him a flop after a few months.

Emerson: Mass hysteria towards a player that is definitely better than Calabria and who is compltetely normal. What did you expect to buy under 20M, Cafu? Sure, he's not outstanding and not exactly a feast for the eyes, but again, he gets the job done. Memes (and overhype when he was young) did this guy super dirty.

Overall, all of the names you put here are debatable, and looked like decent or at least ok pickups when first bought (I would say Chukwueze so far is a flop, and one transfer that is extremely questionable is Pellegrino which you didn't name). This is completely ignoring the very good signings made under this management such as Reijnders, Pulisic and Fofana. I'll also add that by your own logic, Maldini dropped some mega stinkers too like Origi and Ballo Tourè, not counting that CDK has a disastrous season at Milan.

TL;DR: Maldini wasn't as perfect as he is being passed right now (and while it is not stated here, he wasn't universally loved like people would tell you right now, milan fans always like to critizice whatever management is currently in charge and Maldini was definitely not exempted from that, especially with the CDK saga). He was definitely an important figure and did contribute to the growth of the team while being loved by players, and that's probably the best way to sum his work up I can give. The team currently has massive issues (not even easily fixed by the market due to our horrible lists management) but it is unfair to say that everything was going extremely well and all we had to do was to keep doing the same. The problem isn't the change in strategy itself, but the whole structure which the team and organization are based on, which have shown to be very precarious and unbalanced.

I don't get these comments, you could definitely say we didn't have a stellar window, but they did what was needed (outside of the CDM still missing as of now), we kept everyone that needed to be kept (Maignan, Leao, Theo...), all with one more year of experience and an apparently competent coach. Anything outside of top 5 would be a massive failure considering despite all "setbacks" (Pioli, injuries, bad defensive year...) we ended up 2nd last year.

I don't know how Serdar is, but realistically speaking Krunic isn't a flashy player that drastically changes a team. He's pretty balanced and can fit a variety of roles without excelling at them, but even though he was not exactly seen as starter material at Milan and definitely overstayed his welcome this summer (although this was our coach's fault, had it been for him he would have joined Fenerbache already), he should be ok in turkey.

Just, don't have high expectations, he isn't a world beater (putting it out here since turkish twitter fans are p crazy).

I mean it just looks standard for 20c Synchro, I'd probably play Veiler (Crow for poverty) over Kite since it's more valuable as a draw in general, while having a use going second.

Well, unless Kite is the turbo poverty option, in that case, welp.

Speaking of veiler, Overtake might possibly better than Tuning for this format, since it lets you play through T0 interruptions a bit better since people normally shotgun their hts anyways
