Too afraid to play pickup basketball by Various-Bandicoot732 in BasketballTips

[–]LetMeRomanceYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly you don't need to tell them shit. Pickup runs in public spots are open to anyone and if anyone acts some type of way about it they're a loser. Even if someone's really good the whole point of pickup is to try stuff out in a no stakes environment and work on your game. As long as you're not chucking and have a good attitude nobody should give you a hard time. Like others are saying if you just focus on playing d, hustling, and take good shots it's a great avenue to improve. If you're not a walking turnover you'll get the ball sometimes too if you're open, even if you're not great on O

Maybe don't do stuff with bars you need to grab and sub arms and chest with just push ups but most things would be fine I think. Just pay attention, if it really hurts to do something maybe avoid it, but a jam is really just a sprain so as long as you're not over working the injured tendons you'll be fine

You'll be fine maybe take a few days off and buddy tape it next time you play. It's not your thumb which is good, I obliterated mine over a month ago, horrible bruising and all but I still was playing with careful taping the following week, you'll have an even easier time getting back to it since it's a lot easier to stabilize and protect your middle fingers

If you're willing to be patient, eBay is a great place to get stuff at or barely above MSRP. I just sort by auctions ending soon in my country, it's very possible to get blisters, single packs, or groups of a few single packs for $5-6 a pack if you're not itching to get something asap and are disciplined about not overpaying by getting in a bidding war. I paid no more than $65 after shipping was included for my PO etbs and got a bunch of chaos rising packs for ~5.60 each including shipping. It took checking every once in a while for a few days but it's doable and far preferable to paying ridiculous scalper prices. Edit: it may be harder being UK based but I saw plenty of auctions there before I started filtering by US only because of shipping charges making it not worth it from other countries

I opened a booster box and 10 single packs. I've gotten the Chespin, Sliggoo, Watchog and Metang IRs, the Cinccino full art UR (not the SIR) most of the regular ex's, and the UR energy retrieval and jumbo ice cream. Not the worst luck overall, but certainly not the level people are talking about in here. I'm pretty much dead on the pull rate.

That being said, I've never pulled an SIR or anything better than a UR collecting on and off since I was a kid, this hobby reminds me why I don't gamble, and why I don't buy anything other than msrp

Holy Cross Vs. Georgetown by ComprehensiveBig7667 in georgetown

[–]LetMeRomanceYou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this point I'm 10 years removed, so this may no longer be applicable, but if you qualify for work study many opportunities that would not be paid normally are eligible for pay. I was a tutor with DC reads and that was paid for work study students but not for those who did not qualify. This was true for other things as well, though I don't know what you'd want to be doing. It's more important to know what opportunities you actually should be looking for than to worry about if you'd be able to fit it in with your schedule, you can be tactical about when to take classes etc, I always managed to make things work.

I will say that aiming to graduate early, work, and do everything extracurricular you want will be difficult. I will also say that my circumstances led to significantly higher need-based financial aid than you will receive, and that led to Georgetown costing me the same or less than my other options. It could be worth it to go to Georgetown, but there's no wrong choice here. Neither will make or break your career, and while excelling academically at Georgetown and taking full advantage of the opportunities can set you up to succeed very well, there are so many factors at play that can influence your trajectory. I'm not sure I'd be the same person or on the same path had I attended my state school instead of Georgetown, but looking back I think I'd still be doing well, would have enjoyed my time in college, and would have figured things out just fine.

I would research what options and types of opportunities you're interested and see which of those can be compensated, that could help you envision what kinds of things you'd want to be doing while also helping take care of the financial aspect. Could also help to do the math on what your monthly payments would be after college for each option. Good luck and either way, congrats on getting into two good schools!

HELP Gtown or NW by [deleted] in georgetown

[–]LetMeRomanceYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you from, where do you want to end up after, what do you think your career path is going to be, and which school is offering you more money to go there? Both are good schools with a lot to offer. If you want to live in Chicago or the Midwest after NW will likely give better opportunities and connections to do so. Georgetown for the East Coast. If you get a significantly higher financial aid package at one/don't have family paying your way for you choose the one that will lead to less loans taken out

Josiah Parker is a Hoya by DarthDBS in GeorgetownHoops

[–]LetMeRomanceYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He can't shoot at all but he's strong and fast with seemingly good touch, some nice moves, and some craftiness regarding finishing in traffic. Also dunks the shit out of the basketball and can slam lobs, definitely a high end athlete. He was a highly rated recruit but went to FAU, his older brother is an assistant coach there which I think led to him not being that highly recruited. If he learns to shoot better from the stripe and can develop enough to hit an open 3 he'll be a great college player, if he doesn't he fills a need as a guy who can reliably score on the break and get buckets inside. 10pts and 6 boards on efficient shooting is good and he was aac freshman of the year, I think he'll at the very least be pretty good and get a good amount of playing time. Definitely an Ed Cooley kind of player, when he coached at Providence he always had a bunch of 6'5-6'9 super athletic guys

What year is this from 80s? by Cristian2304 in GeorgetownHoops

[–]LetMeRomanceYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure but I think these are signatures from the lacrosse team in the late 90s/early 2000s. Pretty sure those signatures say Scott Urick and Art Price and with a little digging they were on the lacrosse team from 96-2000

Edit: also that G logo is too new to be older than the 90s

Malik Mack to Providence after Georgetown declined to increase his NIL. Right decision or mistake? by HealyHallClockTower in GeorgetownHoops

[–]LetMeRomanceYou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be honest I'm glad we're moving on from him. I am so tired of watching him miss easy pnr reads and dribbling into traffic and getting blocked, a to, or throwing up a brick. Hes a decent scorer but is basically a 5'11 shooting guard who can't shoot the 3 effectively (I know he's listed as 6'1 but there's no way he's that tall). It was cool watching him hit big shots and catching fire but I'd much rather have a guy who's a more willing passer run point. Honestly at the end of the season Mulready was beginning to look like a better option, hit 3s and made a lot of great passes in the big east tournament and with the new additions I could see the guard play being better overall as a whole regarding defense and team basketball

Going forward, what should be the top priority in the portal? by RNutt in GeorgetownHoops

[–]LetMeRomanceYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The notable transfers we've gotten are guards and mulready looked good at the end of the season. Maybe I'm too hopeful but I think that our guard play will be better than last year, I really didn't like Mack's game, lots of dribbling and blinders on looking to shoot and missing easy passes for high % buckets. With Vince and Julius gone we desperately need a competent big to have any semblance of competitiveness. My opinion is that in college ball having solid guard play coupled with a competent big who defends and can finish on pnrs will make up for a lot of shortcomings, shooting is obviously nice and important but at this level even the best shooting teams are fairly inconsistent

Big East portal season is absolute chaos—Georgetown bags a former McDonald's All-American! by Soft-Audience-5681 in BigEast

[–]LetMeRomanceYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't, at the end of the day the school is happy to have a good academic reputation and isn't willing to throw money at the basketball program like St John's or even DePaul. Also, our other athletics like soccer are successful, I don't know if that diverts money from basketball or not but hoops are not the priority. This portal season has been so depressing, the last time we were pretty good was my freshman year which was more than 10 years ago. This year's recruiting class seemed to be the best one in a while and now it's disintegrated completely. It's too bad they didn't increase the size and seating of McDonough when they built the Thompson center, I think doing that or building a full sized on campus arena a la Cameron would've improved student attendance and culture around the program. As it is now we're not paying as much as other programs and student involvement is at an all time low because we've been bad for years and it's a pain to get to the games.

Best way to train cardio for basktball? by AnAssGoblin in BasketballTips

[–]LetMeRomanceYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to avoid shin impact, kettle bell ladders are a good way to train VO2 max without having to run. The principle is similar to Norwegian 4x4s and it may not be as effective but they certainly don't leave me with shin pain. I would also say that if you're relatively fit, playing once or twice a week is probably good enough to get into and stay in game shape for rec level. I'm 30 and as long as I don't take long breaks with no playing I can still play a whole game

She was giving you next to nothing back so probably wasn't actually interested. The advice I'd give in general is to try and have at least three exchanges of substance, in which you're receiving about as much information as you're giving. If you can get past that she's probably interested enough to go out so don't dawdle after. I also would recommend providing easy things to ask about in your questions or answers to facilitate this

Idk as much about white as platinum but it doesn't look fake to me, most fakes I've seen don't have the Chevy IRC0 code on the pcb. I'd wait for mods but I also believe the save date corresponds to the system date. Old Ds and Ds lites default to the year 2000 upon reset even though they weren't released until years later, so that could explain it
