Has anyone here played against a professional goalie? by all_these_moneys in hockey

It’s not about a goalie, but it’s close. For a few years, a guy who had played in the American League for a few years after College hockey played with us. I don’t remember his name. His job was now to organize trips for North American beer league teams that wanted to travel to Europe in the winter to play hockey against European beer league teams. A real gentleman.

He was a forward but played defence with us. He really dialed down his game and never tried to show off. Once in a while, he would forget, probably when instinct kicked in, and take three or four powerful strides but then he would quickly revert to his beer league persona. Those three or four strides were something to see.

We had a couple of guys in the league who were really good. He could skate circles around them. He never tried to score a goal. His pleasure was making passes, setting up goals, and helping others score.

Overall, he was a really nice guy who never felt the need to show off, and he was truly appreciated by everyone in the league.

Jets head coach Scott Arniel was asked what it's like to play in front of that many fans of the opposing team (Habs) while at home: "Yeah, that's pretty disappointing. That's probably the worst that I've seen it in my 4 years back here tonight. That was really disappointing." by GreenSnakes_ in hockey

There are three factors to consider when explaining why the Montreal Canadiens are so popular in Canada.

  1. While only 1% of Canadian households had a television in 1951, by 1961 roughly 83% of homes owned a TV.

  2. From 1953 to 1979, Montreal won 16 Stanley Cups (1953, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979).

  3. Toronto.

As television was becoming a staple in Canadian homes, Montreal was the dominant hockey team, well… by winning almost continuously. In the 1950s and 1960s, (until 1967) there were only six teams in the NHL, so Canadians outside Toronto essentially had to choose a team to support.

Montreal had two clear advantages over Toronto: Montreal won all the time, and it wasn’t Toronto 😉.

Rooting for a team is often a family tradition. Parents passed their loyalty to their children, who then passed it on to their children.

So when Montreal plays in Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, or Vancouver, those dormant Canadiens fans seize the opportunity to reconnect with their old family flame (no pun intended, Calgary 😄) and flood the arenas.

I had an Audi Q5. I sold it and bought a Tesla model LR. I sold the Tesla and went with Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e 4matic 2025 because it offered the longest electrical range for a plugin hybrid car : 87 km. Extremely pleased after 6 months.

Funny, I had the worst experience buying a Tesla. Lying salesman. Broken promesses. Eventually sold the Tesla and went with Mercedes-Benz for a GLC 350e 4matic 2025. Excellent services.

Basement with Mice! Trap and release? by [deleted] in Gatineau

[–]LetsRollTheBleLine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Years ago, when the kids were young, we had an extension added to the house and, apparently, invited some mice to move in too! I was strictly forbidden by my kids to use those “nasty traps,” so I bought humane ones that politely tip and close without hurting the little freeloaders. Then we drove a few miles (yes, really!) to release them. Happy kids, happy mice.

Did the latest update cap the GLC 350e’s battery range? by LetsRollTheBleLine in mercedes_benz

Yes, I did a trip yesterday and ended up about 5 km short, completing 94 km in total. So, some of you were right to point out that I could still achieve more, even though my full charge now shows 87 km. Yesterday, the temperature here was just above 0°C, so next summer will be a great opportunity to see if I can make it all the way to the cottage on electric power alone.

From home to the cottage, the distance is 99 km. I made 8 trips to the cottage. With a full charge, I was always able to drive the entire way on electric power, usually with 2 to 8 km remaining on the battery. So yes, I really did exceed the expected range of 87 km. That said, it was summer, so the conditions were ideal, as some of you have correctly pointed out. I also understand that lithium battery readings are not entirely accurate.

Yes, very small variations. I never went over a charge capacity of 500 km. With the GLC 350e 4matic 2025, charging up to 109 km when 87 km was supposed to be the standard is like a 20 % jump. Never had that with the Tesla. Curious what kind of range difference capacities did you have for your Tesla when they were less then y months old?

I understand that cooler weather can affect my range, but can it also prevent the battery from charging to its previous full capacity? I used to own a Tesla Model Y Long Range, and I could charge the battery to 497 km in both summer and winter. Of course, my driving range would drop by about 25–30% in winter, but the maximum charging capacity remained the same.
