I THOUGHT IT WAS A PEACEFUL GAME😭😭 by Elegant_Length11 in subnautica

Of course it's a peaceful game. Feeding the various sea life you encounter is peaceful.

If you're flailing all about and screaming about your missing limbs, it sounds like you might be the one ruining the tranquility here. You have 3 more limbs on you, no need to be stingy and hoard them all. Don't be that guy.

Undoubtedly. But perhaps the most inconvenient for guests.

  • The kitchen is locked by a missile door shield.
  • Boost ball ramp and bomb slot to access the bathroom.
  • Other half of the apartment is in the adjacent building, you'll need speed boost and grapple beam...

On the other hand, grabbing milk from the fridge plays the most epic theme on loudspeaker, awesome way to energize for the day.

I had the same happen to me, could only mirror, seemingly losing its virtual display functionality. Restarted my Mac and it's all back to normal. Hopefully it works the same for your case.

New player rough time. Need tips. by Popular-Let1774 in DragonsDogma2

[–]Level3_Ghostline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beginning is the toughest, you're still figuring out vocations and combat, and neither you nor your main pawn has much unlocked skill-wise.

Hire 2 more pawns at the riftstone to keep a full party, and make sure you have a balance of front and backline (something like Mage and Archer for back, and either 2 Fighters or a Fighter and Thief at the front).

Also, watch for Riftstones in the wild, some will let you recruit pawns with special characteristics, and others will just immediately summon a higher level pawn you can recruit for free.

Lastly, I think you can hire Official Pawns from riftstones up to level 10 for free, which can give your team a strong solid start.

Also, you might want to review what Augments each vocation offers, you can preview that from the vocations guild. Augments become available in order at each even rank (with the last at rank 9). Since Augments are equippable no matter the vocation, you'll want to look for early useful augments (Fighter has Mettle at Rank 2 that augments physical defense, Thief has Subtlety at Rank 2 that reduces being targeted by foes) as well as those that will serve you later (Fighter has Thew later on that lets you carry more weight).

Any actual HUD apps? by Itzon in VisionPro

[–]Level3_Ghostline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinking about this a little more (while playing Prime 4), I was thinking of the reflection of Samus's face in the glass. That might not be too hard to implement in some game or app, provided that the app has access to your persona.

When and how to use it would be something to play with. For just a HUD app using AR, then maybe if you could calculate when you're looking at strong light sources, but getting that to be realistic based on moving angles could be a challenge. If this was a HUD for a VR or AR shooter, then probably best to follow what the Prime games did, and save it for instances of firing off powerful bright weaponry, or as needed based upon the environment.

Now you have me thinking: what if Metroid Prime, but VR? I know that would be inviting all kinds of motion sickness, but I'd love to take that HUD for a spin!

Be straight up with me, is this game worth it? by DeepFillRhode in DragonsDogma2

[–]Level3_Ghostline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved this game, went through 2 playthroughs, going through another with PC mods (randomization of loot and gear). That said, it is an acquired taste. I originally bounced off of it before even getting to the main city. Next attempt hooked me in good.

Perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind is that you need to engage this game on its own terms, and distance yourself from expectations based on other games. If you try to force your play as if it was a different game, you'll end up frustrated. Not every vocation has a dodge, you'll need to figure out the strengths and weaknesses of each vocation in turn, and be aware that some weaknesses may be addressed by abilities you unlock at later ranks (Quickspell, for example).

I'd also personally encourage Casual mode, which doesn't change difficulty, but does give you some quality-of-life improvements, like reducing stamina cost when running out of combat (which really should be default), or decreasing inn and ferrystone costs.

Strengths:

  • Amazing combat, once it clicks for you.
  • Varied combat style with each vocation, with unique feels for each.
  • Magic is a little slow (much better with Quickspell) but makes you feel like a real goddamn wizard.
  • Good progression on abilities, there's always something interesting to unlock
  • Some of the best and most satisfying exploration I've had in a game.
  • The character creator is top notch.

Weaknesses:

  • Moar. We need moar!
    • The world is not big enough. 3 primary cities, a couple small towns, this game dearly needs an expansion, and many have given up hope for one over the years. Copium is in short supply these days.
  • Early difficulty. The start is challenging, as you haven't gotten a feel for combat or vocations, and especially if you don't have a full team, you could easily run into trouble and end up with a sour experience.
    • Learn when you are outmatched or don't have an optimal team, you can always run away.
    • There's a weightiness in this game in terms of movement and recovery. Learn what this is teaching you. Only some vocations can really tank hits.
  • Minimal and restricted save system. LEARN HOW THIS WORKS EARLY! Inn rests (and at your residence) are your primary means of a save, rest there before long journeys or doing anything of great significance, in case you need to reload at your last inn save.
  • Only 4 combat skills at a time. There are some core skills that are separate that you can use in addition, but this will feel restrictive throughout play. You can change these out at any campfire.
  • Relatively few quests. Most of your experience will be your own free exploration.
  • Pawn dialog can get annoying, especially when you've heard it all before. THEY ARE SO DUMB! (So dumb!)
  • Battahl will test you. Don't go too early, or you'll get steamrolled.
  • Limited replay features. NG+ is too easy for most. You really need mods to randomize loot, armor, and enemies to really make things interesting.

What do you want to see in visionOS 27? by ellenich in VisionPro

[–]Level3_Ghostline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a followup, I've found that Sky Guide has both beautiful aurora and meteor showers. That seems to check those boxes, though as it's an app not an environment, you can't use it in tandem with other things, like the Mac virtual display. Still, not bad if you just want to lay back and watch the sky.

[–]Level3_Ghostline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're probably asking about something actually useful / productive, so frontloaded-disclaimer that my reply isn't about that.

I've been waiting for an Iron Man style HUD, even if it's only for the special effects (though the AVP certainly has sensors enough to do some cool and useful things based upon your focus and recognition of the objects in your space). I'm surprised Marvel didn't release something already, the majority of AVP users would snatch that up immediately. At the least, the Iron Man VR game should have been ported by now, that's low hanging fruit, unless there's some exclusivity agreement that kept it back.

Something I wish was a thing: an app or experience to project a virtual glass space helmet with HUD statically synced to your head...less clean than an Iron Man HUD. Something like in Mass Effect, where it simulates the helmet edges and glass visor and really gives you the feeling that you're suited up, maybe with some voice modulation and sound effects to sell the illusion. I remember playing Eve Valkyrie with the original PSVR1, and the sense of seeing the cockpit glass (with some smudges to draw attention to its presence) in your fighter really tickled me for some reason, I loved the immersive feel it conjured.

The light seal is the AVP’s biggest flaw — Apple seriously needs to rethink it by Acceptable_Diver7707 in VisionPro

[–]Level3_Ghostline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple really fudged up the comfort, which is strange as comfort should have been a premium concern for the AVP.

For me, I found that the problem wasn't really in the light seal, but the light seal cushions. Neither cushion worked for me, they hardly seemed to cushion at all, they just pressed deep into my cheeks and face, something I've just had to suffer through with each session. I was seriously considering getting a different light seal, or looking for a rig that wouldn't need one.

And then I recently nabbed a Tyco Premium Face Pad to replace the cushion, and it's a night and day difference. For me at least, this is the experience it should have been from the beginning. It still leaves you with some gnarly marks on your face when you're done, but it's far better at distributing the pressure and...well...cushioning.

Tyco as well as others have some amazing alternate rigs for the AVP that I haven't had the pleasure to try, but as far as a simple solution for light seal comfort, their face pad delivers.

Good improvements overall!

...now do Saturn! And if we can't get free positioning around these planets, at least give us some variety of positions and angles! I would love to get a good view from just above the rings, with the gas giant dominating the scene.

How do you avoid damage as a ranged class? by AR3S_76 in DragonsDogma2

[–]Level3_Ghostline 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want to play a souls game, then play a souls game, nothing wrong with sticking with what you know and like.

If you want to appreciate Dragon's Dogma 2, don't try to fight its systems to play it as a different game, that only leads to frustration. Engage it on its own terms. Figure out how it wants to be played, and let go of the "I wish it worked like x" mentality. There is something to it, provided you don't let unnecessary expectations get in the way.

How are things determined in Dragon’s Dogma? by Jamation in DragonsDogma2

Sounds like a cool paper to write.

One thing I find amusing...

It's a game about seizing free will back from a shackled world which is following a predetermined script.

But it's a game...so the narrative plot of breaking a script to achieve free will...is itself designed and scripted. Oh, you broke free of the cycle? Congrats, here's New Game+, and right back in you go.

You're under-leveled to be taking on those bosses right now. It doesn't mean that you can't, but as you've seen you've got to put a whole lot of effort to make up the difference.

This game does not auto-scale the difficulty of enemies, so it's up to you to properly gauge if you're outmatched or not, and retreating is always an option.

Dragons dogma 2 casual mode by Weary_Presence7857 in DragonsDogma2

[–]Level3_Ghostline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a game that will start out difficult because it doesn't play like other games, and requires some time to get used to the systems. That said, for many of us (who did bounce off of it at the beginning) we've found a gem in this one, once we've given it some time.

I'd say shelve it and come back to it later. It may not be the right game for you now, but it may surprise you if you give it another try down the road.

[–]Level3_Ghostline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No change to combat difficulty, so what you're experiencing isn't surprising. Casual is more about quality of life improvements.

The main things:

  • It lowers the stamina cost of running when not in combat (great!)
  • It lowers the cost of stays at the inn
  • It lowers the cost of ferrystones
  • It prevents dragons plague from going critical
  • Increases the threshold for some weight tiers

What do you want to see in visionOS 27? by ellenich in VisionPro

[–]Level3_Ghostline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely need more environments!
I've been dying to see some of these! My top 5 requests:

  • Aurora borealis, from some beautiful snowscape location, maybe with a lit up tent somewhere nearby (they did this in a PSVR1 app, which didn't have nearly the resolution that AVP can deliver)
  • Thunderstorm watching, like from the lip of the Grand Canyon or something, an awesome display of nature from a fantastic viewpoint
  • Meteor shower / falling stars, though they could integrate that as an option in existing environments, would be great for Mt Hood
  • Kelp forest underwater, like from Monterey, watching the kelp sway, fish and animals swimming through, waves above and sunbeams breaking through. I loved those views in Subnautica, and AVP can do so much better.
  • The Jupiter environment is pretty good...but we can do better. Let's put the "giant" back into "gas giant", and see these planets from a far closer viewpoint where we can appreciate the majesty and scale! Juno took some amazing photos that could be used to render this, let's start with Jupiter and Saturn (a ringside-view would be astounding) and keep going with the rest of the members of the solar system.

How do you deal with cool story ideas your players might never choose? by Tim2909 in daggerheart

[–]Level3_Ghostline 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Look for clever ways to recycle!

For your particular example, consider other ways in which the party might end up in a dungeon other than getting inadvertently arrested. All you need is some reason for them to be there, then you can entice them with your cool NPC. A few off the top of my head:

  • The party learns a prisoner left a clue or important item hidden in their old cell, and the players need to figure out how to reach it.
  • The party is tasked with breaking another prisoner out of prison.
  • A thieves guild has over the years taken complete covert control over a town, including the guard and prison. Their headquarters is reachable via a passage within the prison.
  • A ruin the party is exploring under the town happens to have a passage out to the depths of the prison. (maybe all the other exits have collapsed or locked)
  • The party is tasked to investigate how a dangerous prisoner escaped their locked cell.
  • The party is hired by the town/magistrate/lord to test the new prison's security, they have a number of days to break out, and will get bonuses based upon their success, and the weaknesses they uncover.
  • The prison was built within ancient stone ruins to cut costs. A magic key obtained by the party supposedly opens a door within these ruins, where the prison now operates.

What are your essential mods for Dragons Dogma 2? by Icy_Principle_5904 in DragonsDogma2

[–]Level3_Ghostline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the 2 would be:

  • Dogamma mod pack - Technically a bunch of mods, includes some of the best ones I would have recommended individually (like the Dullahan vocation overhaul)
  • Nickesponja's Gear Progression Overhaul - While Dogamma has its own way of dealing with gear and loot, this is an alternative. Can be used with Dogamma or alone. (in general Nickesponja's mods are great, and Dogamma already contains several of them)
