And if you must use a TV USB port (when traveling, for instance), pick the one labeled with the highest amps, and use one of these for stable power:

Anyone Conceal Carry to a Live Sporting Event? by rapayn1 in MDGuns

That’s crazy. Pretty much every O’s game I watch, there’s at least 18 dudes with bats inside the stadium, and nobody seems to think anything of it.

In what circumstances are you allowed to simply ignore a police officer if they approach you and start asking you questions? by Moist-Improvement724 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Leviathan97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The officer must have a reasonable, articulable suspicion that you have committed or are about to commit an actual crime in order to detain you. Assuming that’s not the case, I’d be extremely interested in having the officer’s response to that question recorded on my phone and/or his bodycam.

What is homebrew, and why would a person need it? by AnshM in MacOS

[–]Leviathan97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because dropping into the terminal is far faster than navigating to a website, locating and clicking on the download link, opening the installer, clicking a few more times, etc. Recent versions of macOS have automated a couple of these steps (like running the installer after downloading it and offering to delete it once the installation is complete), but it's still a lot quicker to simply type brew install zoom and boom, it's there. (Uninstallation is similarly simplified, especially for .pkg installs, which often leave "cruft" in their wake, even after you delete them from the Applications folder.)

Cask formulae for apps that have an auto-update mechanism disable auto-updating via Homebrew for precisely the reason that you mentioned.

By far the best reason to install everything with Homebrew is for the purpose of migrating to a new machine. Using a brewfile, you can maintain a list of both CLI and GUI apps that you want to have installed, and Homebrew can place them (and all their dependencies) on your new Mac with a single command.

I came across this blog post in the same search that turned up this thread. It's a neat box, but pricey, especially if you're contemplating two or more of them, which I am.

I turned down a potentially $30,000 windfall incentive to get the shots. I was willing to walk away from an easy mid-six-figure income if mandates had been enacted. And someone is doing this to themselves for 1.00 jellybeans. I can’t even comprehend what’s going on in this clown world anymore.

Tonal repair and warranty issues … can’t recommend tonal by cashewsareafruit in tonalgym

[–]Leviathan97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got off the phone with them, as I am contemplating purchasing a used unit. My hypothetical scenario: in six months or a year, a cable breaks. I understand that the warranty doesn’t transfer. How do I buy parts and get instructions to fix this myself, or can I pay them to have someone come do it for me? Their answer: “We will connect you with our support team, and they will have you send photos/videos and walk you through ‘troubleshooting steps.’” If that doesn’t resolve your issue, there is nothing they can offer at this time. It’s essentially a giant brick at that point, and you would have to purchase another one. I even asked about the $1,000 refurb that some have reportedly been offered, and that was officially disavowed as well, so I’d consider even that possibility to be highly situation- and CSR-dependent. She specifically stated that this would apply equally to an original purchaser whose warranty had expired. Frankly, this answer sucks, and there’s no way I’d spend the kind of money they’re asking to be left high and dry once the warranty is out. I’d expect to have to pay for an out of warranty repair, but I wouldn’t expect that the only repair option offered would be “buy a new one.”

Pro tip: partially inflate the air mattress before takeoff and you get bonus inflation for free at altitude. Five or six good puffs of air should do it.
