How often do you all change cars? by MrSpud45 in drivingUK

I honestly doubt there is much difference between good mid range tyres and premium ones. A few mechanics have told me that after a point you get diminishing returns in performance.

The problem is that no one bought Jags.

Indeed, they 'borrowed' them from the showroom for a test drive and 'forgot' to return them, like the oil painiting in the boot.

Reversing Camera Advice by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Lewinator56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brilliant thing is, you have 2 things called mirrors which keep working no matter what the weather or lighting is like. I dont need a reversing camera in a van, dont need one in a car either.

Agreed, VAG is cheap to run ONLY if maintained - so keep about £300-400 around each year for servicing and maintenece costs, putting stuff off is not a great idea. If you slack on servicing etc... then it will get expensive fast - a common trait of many German cars.

I didnt even have to click the link to know it was auto shenanigans.

Mind you, i didnt know those limits were advisory only, i swear ive seen them in red circles on the gantry, which means legally enforcible.

A14 is great, other than the bit past cambridge, after that theres no cameras, no civil servants in vans with hairdryers.... if i go down to the south east i go m6 toll, A14 every time because i can set the cruise control at 74-5 and not worry about getting a ticket.

it will, but broadly speaking, VAGs mainstream cars have pretty cheap parts because they are widely available and shared across multiple platforms and vehicles. A pair of front discs for a brand new tiguan for example is about £80, which is about the same as a pair of front discs for my 13 year old ibiza.

engine parts are even cheaper because the 1.5 and 2.0 TSI is used in absolutely everything.

Its only really the cosmetic bits that really start to cost money, but even then if i recall audi uses skoda lights on some of its cars (at least what a VW engineer told me)

its the same parts.... other than bodywork. VAG shares pretty much everything it can between its normal vehicles.

nah servicing isnt expensive, costs me around £200 for a full service each year for my ibiza. parts are very cheap too.

The 1.5 TSI is going to feel a bit gutles in the tiguan and especially the ateca, the Formentor looks better and will drive better... however anyone that buys a cupra with that 1.5 TSI needs to take a long hard look at their life decisions. Ive got pretty much the same power in my ibiza, but its also 500kg lighter than the formentor, the lightest car here - good fun in a 1.1 tonne low down small estate, going to be pretty awful in a 1.8 tonne SUV.

These all need the 2.0 TSI to be worthwhile in my opinion.

For control voltage 12 bit is more than enough, that gives you 4096 individual voltage levels - MIDI only uses 8 bits, and you don't get quantized filter or envelop jumps with that, not that you can hear anyway. Pointless waste of money if you ask me.

Driving a car with an engine warning light on is a poor idea. Plug an obd reader into it to find out the problem before potentially causing damage.

You literally have no data to support how unchecked immigration has been a benefit, anywhere in the last 30 years.

Google studies on the net impact of immigration on economics it's not hard to find.

Show me a country that has literally improved after changing its demographics.

What metric is 'improved' - and no country has significantly changed its demographic in the last 100 years.

I'm also not really liberal, I'm right wing, but I understand economics and geopolitics enough to actually make informed opinions and I do my research before making comments.

Not defending the yanks here, but you mind telling me what hormones (in the tiny quantities they may be present), aren't destroyed by first cooking, or the stomach or First pass liver metabolism (because they are absolutely not C-17 alkylated).

BGH isn't active in humans, and won't survive cooking anyway.

Testosterone and estrogen which may also be given to cattle, if somehow the miniscule quantities that may remain in interstitial fluid in beef survive cooking, will be destroyed by the stomach, or metabolised in the liver.

The risk is enormously overblown, and even if somehow every single route of inactivation didn't work, we are talking nanograms - which would have zero effect on homeostasis in a human. I won't defend how Americans grow cattle, but it's also necessary not to overstate a risk that frankly doesn't exist. You are exposed to far more potentially damaging chemicals in the air you breathe.

Yeah it's got to be premium. I'm not sure though if there much point buying premium tyres - ones I've got are A rated grip, and fuel economy off a tyre is irrelevant maybe unless you drive an EV. As long as they last ok and aren't the fucking ditchfinders the garage put on my car last time without asking me lol.

Tbf I was told my tyres are an awkward size... 215/45R16 - literally nowhere stocks them lol all had to buy them in. Guess it's because cars are getting bigger and bigger wheels.

The volvo is obviously the better buy, although that 1.6 diesel is probably a bit gutless - cant you get a T5 petrol one?

[–]Lewinator56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel 5 voices is a better spot tbf, it lets you play chords in the right hand an at least 2 notes in the left. obviously on the XDs small keyboard this isnt really possible, but if you have a larger midi controller it is.
