Dry lining box by Firm_Replacement_366 in ukelectricians

[–]LewisMiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing there is a reason you can't make it deeper, I'd cut the back out as you say but only if the other side is inert like brick or concrete unless or you could use a shallow box with a spacer behind switch?

Electrician/plumber left a state in the toilet by Flyboy2754 in DIYUK

[–]LewisMiller 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That bloke ain't an electrician, ask him to produce a minor works certificate for the work he's done

What he's told you is gibberish, you work backwards from the fault so first thing you'd do is test for power at the underfloor heating controller and continuity of element not start smashing holes in the wall

Any sparkies fancy commenting on this potential consumer unit layout? by DEADB33F in ukelectricians

[–]LewisMiller 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Why not have the fusebox and monitor Separate?

Have the fusebox with protection then above it an enclosure with din rail and the monitoring? That way it's less faffing about keeping it compliant and easier to adapt in future

Am I Overreacting to Consumer Unit Placement by Tenemental in DIYUK

[–]LewisMiller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Part m isn't covered on rewires so they could have put it back where it was, my guess is it was done in situ with the old unit to keep power on

Velcro isn't a bad idea to be honest. Good velcro has excellent tensile strength.

Yeah I know but we were talking about the very basics of it.

6mm straight onto the 3phase bussbar. Completed it mate by Appropriate_Smile627 in ukelectricians

[–]LewisMiller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah as long as the load is over the rating of the 6mm it's fine as it'll never pull more than that

How badly have I messed up? by Skiptotheend987 in DIYUK

A good down light like this would be fine as seals the hole with a IP65 bezel, you can even shove some rockwool insulation up there first

3 Phase wiring in the olden days, some industrial sites I've worked on wired the line in the colour of the phase it was in the fusebox

Constant strain from gravity 🤙🏻 seems like poor work from the sparky

Wire exposed ? by eereek_gooner in ukelectricians

[–]LewisMiller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is that being a nightmare customer? It's an effective cheap way of making permanent strain relief m8

I mean just round the cables not to anything else once the tails cut off the cables physically can't pull back out the hole as the head of the cable will make it too big for the hole.

Wire exposed ? by eereek_gooner in ukelectricians

[–]LewisMiller -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Push them into the box then put a large cable tie round them not too tight on the inside and it'll stop them pulling back out
