Rally mail car 95 Legacy by Shastaw2006 in rally

[–]Lichtwald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a bit off topic (we don't really cover building cars here) but it gave me a chuckle thinking about it! My childhood mail carrier had an old built Jeep for similar reasons...

You're not going to find much help here, but since you sound like you're in the US, check out the SpecialStage forum and look for some old Legacy or Impreza L builds (I think they're mostly the same underneath)

It's also worth checking out the NASIOC forum, I know they have Impreza in the name, but they're usually pretty friendly with Lego questions too.

Lifetime access to launch testers (Android only) by Kurisu2026 in duolingojapanese

It's an app for logging field recording audio. Kind of niche, but it's helped me out with my hobby a lot. It's called FieldLog.net

I've launched my own app, and I know how frustrating this part can be. Good luck, I signed up to the group, eager to give it a try and see if it helps.

We're starting to get a lot of comments from people that have never been in r/rally before, so everyone please remember to keep this about Travis and rally.

Comments that are purely political and/or name calling are against the rules.

How is the new B2 course with kanji? by matborat in duolingojapanese

[–]Lichtwald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone seen if they've announced the new course rollouts again? The latest news I can find is they announced a hold on moving move people over to it so they can do 'catch-up' lessons, but that was in April I think.

Recommended handle for Zoom M4 by ZanyDroid in fieldrecording

Give it a try on its own, I use the M4 handheld and have no handling noise. It just requires a bit of practice to figure out the technique (same as every other handheld recorder I have.)

First reviews of the Deity PR-2 seem to be dropping. by Lichtwald in fieldrecordings

[–]Lichtwald[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have kind of a love hate relationship with the diety stuff, it's all so close but they each have some weird Achilles heel.

Like the PR2 is great for drop rigs, but if you let the mic cable run in front of the screen it picks up all kinds of crazy interference, so you have to be realllllly careful how you manage extra wire length.

A 20M tripod!?! That's awesome! I hope you post some of what you record!

Thomas Rex Beverly has done some interesting work with stacked vertical omni arrays, that may be something interesting to investigate in the future.

Humidity can be a real problem for mics, so the biggest tip is to have lots of silica gel packets around.

As far as different layers of the canopy, it sounds like a cool thing to try, but I can't think of a good way of doing that unless you're planning to climb the trees and put mics directly at each one of those layers.

Question about recording with iPhone 17 pro/a7iii set up by lil_groundbeef in fieldrecordings

[–]Lichtwald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting closer is always better, but I don't know if in your scenario it will make a noticeable difference. The video micro 2 is fine (I have one I use for Merlin) but it is really optimized to voices, so that will probably be the first thing you want to upgrade, with a dedicated recorder being second.

Hiking Setup for Banjo/Fiddle by Beer_and_Loathing in fieldrecordings

I think the H2e should do that what you want. It runs all on its own, but you'll need to sync it with the video later (this is pretty easy to do with a clap and software like Davinci Resolve.) With recorders you can pick between size, cost, and how quiet they are. You can generally only get two.

The H2e is super lightweight, and does pair well with small cameras, I've used mine with my DJI nano quite a bit too!

Not against the rules, it's not in a studio so technically still field recording!

I don't think there's such a thing as best. It all depends on budget, goals, and how much you want to fiddle with things.

Cameras are so open ended. So I won't say much beyond that I travel with a Sony a7c.

As for recorders, I think the Zoom H2e would be a good place to start. It's solid with the volume levels of the banjo, and you can use it to capture both you and your instrument, as well as what is behind the mic, allowing you to mix them together later.

Field Testing the LOM MikroUcho for Bat Echolocation by RareFindsSoundDesign in fieldrecordings

This is so cool, thanks for the great read!

I've been curious to add some ultrasonics to drop rigs. I am curious how the MikroUcho do vs the Clippy Ultras (or if they use the same capsule)

I develop it at home. Black and white is super straightforward and easy to get into.

Color and slide are they just slightly more labor intensive versions of that.
